I was at the fair with my family that day as well.. we were just outside the food court when everyone started running from everywhere. I grabbed my family and got them to an exit.

Most of them were just lying down in an open area easy target for the gunman. Maybe try to crawl run and get front of obstacles. But I guess when there’s fear your body might tell you otherwise.

Imagine yourself in that place with all the loud chattering and echoing in that facility then a pop goes off when you're just enjoying your meal or talking to someone. Your reaction would be just like theirs "was that a gun? where did it come from? then you duck for cover". You can only run away from the threat when you know WHERE THE THREAT IS COMING FROM. For the folks that ran away they were probably more near or had a better sense of whats going on compared to someone who is far away.

You take Las Vegas shooting as example for all shooting is funny because every shooting is not the same. At Las Vegas, people were in the open field and the bad guy was high above, ducking down didn't work in that case. It was hard for people to find the cover to hind. This is at state fair and there are more things to hide, duck down is the best.

lol well im glad they didn't do that, I went with my family today and we walked right through alarms going off and everything, no one checked our bag. people need to be aware that anyone anywhere could have a gun and the best way to protect yourself is to have your own. I didn't feel scared or worried because this wasn't some mass shooting that happened, believe me if that guy had been randomly shooting people he would have left in a bag and it would have been 50 other gun owners who put him there not police. the fair is literally held inside the streets of Dallas, its a public area with public roads and buildings. The weapons detection system doesn't work properly if you make people hand you their bag around the sensors instead of making the bag go through the scanner and then check it. I was disappointed they only opened one pocket on my backpack to check it and the security person slid it around the detector. So easy to sneak stuff in the security should be ashamed of lazy workers. I was about 8 feet from the shooter and he was shooting in our direction. so yes I'm a little upset that lazy people not doing their jobs right caused this to happen. Not to mention the guard in the guard box that puts him up high to see the crowd. was he not equipped with at least non leathal to shut it down quickly? If he did he didn't use it, that person had the best view of the entire thing, I even used his box to hide behind and I know i had a full view of the shooter and I was directly next to that box. The state fair shouldn't allow any guns , no matter concealed or not. I cannot believe Fair allow concealed gun carrying in the fair on their rule, which is insane. Lots lots of children in the fair!!! Concealed gun holders with background check can go crazy, too! I won't bring kids to fair anymore! it's not a safe place since they allow concealed guns!
Facts matter. Concealed carry license holders are statistically more law abiding than the average person. I guarantee that this guy was not permitted to have a gun, let alone have a ccl. Why penalize law abiding citizens because of criminals? Chances are you are around concealed carry holders constantly and never know it and are safer because of it.

Can confirm the shooter was not licensed. He worked in security and wasn't supposed to be armed. Some think that someone helped him get it in. Others have been reporting their disappointment in the bag checking. Seeing as I was about 8 feet from the shooter I can tell you I called back to when they checked my bag, they checked the smallest pocket of my bag and then slid it down the table, making no attempt to really check it, let alone have the weapons detector scan my bag too.

I think I haven't been back to the fair since I was walking in the parade area and a worker told me to walk this way instead as I listened to them I bumped my head on a tree that passed and hung over the route that she told me to take ... needless to say I wanted to sue ...But I went home with my tail between my legs.FUUUUN🤕 Thanks State Fair Staff Stay safe Y'all !
