I think the main reason for the low crowds right now are the top-tier prices Disney is charging for a single-day ticket. $169 for Fridays and $179 for Saturdays might just be too much for the average person to be spending. Maybe Disney has finally reached the point where they’ve priced people out of the parks.
@VictorDeveze
@VictorDeveze Год назад
It's a great strategy, they make more money at 70% capacity but higher pricing, than 100% capacity but lower pricing. Not to mention wear and tear, basic services, maintenance, less cast members needed. It's also a better experience for those that are willing to pay
@andresmillsgallego814
@andresmillsgallego814 Год назад
People love Disney, and go to the parks for a feeling, emotion, connection. People don't mind spending money, but there's a fine line where it crosses over to feeling nickel and dined, and being viewed as walking dollar signs. That is a feeling that people don't like. Walt always said if you focus on the product, the quality, and the person..then people will pay. Couple that with the economy hurting, and people are not going to go as much.

I have a client that just got back from DL. They purchased Genie+ for 4. When they went to city hall to get bday buttons they mentioned that the park was so slow that they wouldn't need Genie+. The cast member reimbursed them right then and there.

Another great update. I agree with you about its time to get rid of lightning lane. It’s overkill for people waiting in the regular line. Even the fast pass they had before was way better. It’s time to get re-organized
@Kimmy360
@Kimmy360 Год назад
Let's be honest, the crowds are smaller because Disney has priced people out. I say that as someone who travels 1200 miles to spend time in the parks once or twice a year. I'm happy we are able to do it. When our kids were small we went every other year because my parents lived close to the parks. If we didn't have that convenience there is no way we could have gone then and enter fees have tripled. Some of the people I know can do the parks a few times while their kids are growing. Most of the people I know will never go.

When prices were cheaper, it attracted a “certain demographic” to the park and resulted in fist fights in Toontown…..Google it. …..Prices NEED to be high, to keep the rif-raff OUT.
@VictorDeveze
@VictorDeveze Год назад
Exactly, and as business owner (Airbnb - if you wanna hate on me that's fine) I can tell you it's a good strategy. We make more money at 70% capacity than 100%, and a 50% higher price. For example, we make more money charging $150 per day, but only 70% booking, than $100 per day, and 100% booking. It comes out to be $3,150 per month vs $3,000 per month (30-day example). That's $150 dollars more, but we are not even taking into account basic services: water, gas, electricity. We are not taking into account wear and tear, cleaning, maintenance. My business runs better at 70% than 100%, and I make more. So yes, I see why Disney prefers this, totally makes sense. Don't hate (or hate, they don't care). People get a better experience in a park at 70% capacity. This is not a basic necessity, this is a luxury item, always has been. For cheaper park experience visit Six Flags or Cedar Fair. When people understand they are not entitled to luxury, then they will make peace with it. Hate disney? give your money to someone else and then maybe the price will go down.

@DoomAtDusk when you spend that much $ you expect to enjoy the park. In the past I've been there when we were lucky to get on 2 rides all day. Being stepped on (literally), having toes rolled over by strollers, waiting an hour to get food and then having rides closed, it began to feel not worth it anymore. The last 2 years have been a breath of fresh air! I am in favor of keeping reservations if that means that my $3000 of tickets and hotel stays and another $500 for food means we can not be crushed in crowds and enjoy the parks!

I have always loved Disneyland. It's a place my family took me as a child, I took girlfriends to, watch the fireworks. It warmed my heart to be a pass holder and own a piece of the joy. Walt was everywhere. This is not the same Disney. They are stripping the parks and the brand of everything Walt and his genius imagineers created for us. The magic, nostalgia, family atmosphere is gone.. for me. I hope I'm in the minority with these feelings. Everyone should have a "Disneyland".

We were just at WDW and bought the Genie+ a few of the days but realized I preferred our non-Genie days so much better. On the days we purchased I was so stressed trying to get the maximum number of LL and then constantly crossing the park and/or watching the clock for the next LL. On our non-Genie days we just focused on the rides and shows that don’t have LL or have short waits and wandered where we wanted, shopped, ate, etc. It was so much more relaxing. I really wish they’d just bring back free LL so there isn’t the stress to ‘get your money’s worth’. We used to do one and then explore that area and repeat.

Great update. There is another factor going on. I have two friends who are cast members at Disneyland and they both tell me that all parts of the parks are under staffed. They are bleeding people. I wonder if Disney upper management is keeping the reservation system so that they can keep the staffing number down. I know that sounds crazy, but Disney is doing everything they can to keep cast member under a 40 hour work week to that they don’t have to pay health care.

David, I feel a big part of the low crowds has to do with the economy. As a pass holder, I have cancelled reservations 3 times this summer now due to being in a tighter budget than I have in years. This year has hit us hard financially, as my job success depends greatly on the economy and interest rates, and I’m in an industry of over 3 million people here in the U.S. and that’s just my business. By continuing to increase single ticket prices while continuing to offer an annual pass at a ridiculously low price (even the $1500 pass pays for itself after around 15 visits yet gives you a ridiculous 330+ days of admission), Disney has finally completely turned Disneyland into a locals only park. Only people with passes go, and locals mostly buy the poor people's $450 pass). That's why the weekends are more quiet than weekdays. It'll get more busy as soon as the other passes are allowed back.

Having reservations helps the Disneyland cast management plan and schedule workers. It can significantly help. When there are not many people in the park, they won't be over staffed. Effectively saving a lot of money. Likewise they can staff up for busier days, keeping the customer experience/ customer satisfaction HIGH.

We are coming from the UK and have 2 days and most likely may not make it back in my lifetime! So lightning lane is our lifeline! The parks need to be accessible to international visitors to make the most of their trip so booking the parks makes me feel better? The explanations of ride times and genie etc have been so brilliant thank you!

But the size if the line is not always indication on how long you wait. For example wait time state 20 minutes for space mountain, and line was short. But they were only letting two standby guests to 10 LL guests. ended up waiting 40 minutes

The Parks are as "Accessible" to you as they are to everyone else, and have always been. I have been going into the Parks since Walt Disney was alive. The Parks were always accessible to everyone even then, you just didn't pay for every move you make. People have been coming to the Park from other Countries for as long as I can remember, way before Reservations started. We use to love hearing their accents. I can understand that since you come so little these things seem a great thing, but for those us who live here, the reservations make no difference at all, they certainly do not control crowds. The other things are just money makers for Disneyland.

This might have already been said, but I remember construction always being during the slow months at Disneyland. We have been AP for nearly 20 yrs. I don’t recall there being so many areas and attractions being refurbished/closed during the summer months and Christmastime. We won’t be renewing our Magic Keys until after the reservation system ends and all the major projects are done.

Disney, stop being greedy scumbags. Bring back FREE Fast Pass and show that you actually care about your loyal fans. Get rid of Lighting Lane, Get rid of Genie +, get rid of the corporate people in the company ruining the park experience. Thanks.

That's the reason Robert Iger said the parks in Orlando are less busy. BTW, I've looked at walking tours done by, of course, FreshBaked's vlog & ones done by RU-vidrs on the East Coast. I know this is IMHO, but I didn't realize how much more visually charming is DL compared with its newer versions done elsewhere. I've read other people say that too (or as a person from Tokyo told me yrs ago), but the smaller footprint of Anaheim & Walt's own personal touch has affected the 1955 park.

Great job! They need to go back to free fast pass. For my parent’s 50 th anniversary we all did the rides we wanted with fast pass It was great so my parents in their 70’s didn’t have to stand in long lines. Makes the experience more enjoyable and people will buy more and come back more frequent.

I bet if they went back, they'd hike ticket prices maybe $10-15 to make up the lost revenue.

It's simple, the cost to go to the parks has gotten out of hand. People are over the after the lockdown spending and money is getting tighter. Ticket prices have increased, travel has increased, and food and merch in parks are really high so when people are looking at discretionary spending they might push back the Disney trip or their multiple trips to Disney. Especially when rides keep breaking down and there really isn't anything that people just have to see

Not sure I agree with David that the reservation system is not the reason for the slowness. Can't base an opinion on looking around one day's circumstance. The reservation system has left a bad impression on many previous loyal Disneyland guests. They just don't like not having a routine spontaneous approach to going to the park. The cost and treatment doesn't match.

Not busy is worrisome; Disneyworld is EMPTY (Tough times ahead, family can't afford any more) ! I hope Disney going Woke doesn't impact the Parks. Go Woke and Go broke is real, and the parks should be 100% political free (it should be 100% Family fun, kid centric) The Parks should be historical monuments. So much of America is in the parks, that America and Disneyland is like peas and carrots.

I honestly am wondering if some of the current situations going on are affecting some of the reason why there aren’t that many people. For instance bad press on sound of freedom versus Indiana Jones. All the ride closures. Price hikes. Or maybe people are waiting until some of these big changes and refurbs are done to come. I mean shutting down a few major attractions that people come for in the middle of summer just doesn’t make sense. There’s a number of changes they need to make imho

Hi David. My family and I were at Hollywood studios at WDW last Monday (happy belated 68th Disneyland). Rise of the resistance was the first attraction we went on at park open. The wait time was posted at 75 minutes but we were able to get on the ride in about 60 minutes. Best attraction we ever experienced. Since Hollywood studios is a smaller park at WDW we used lightning lane on nearly every attraction my family and I went on. My only suggestion is Genie+ should be a free service at both resorts. Great video 👍🏼👍🏼 Fresh Baked!!!

I think there's a lot of things keeping people from the parks, but also from touristy things in general. I work in a tourism heavy job elsewhere, and while it isn't an amusement park, what we should be seeing in the summer just isn't happening. This lack of business is happening everywhere. People are either unable to spend the money, or they are choosing to spend it differently. Every industry has to adjust to this, but most will not. Executives cannot grasp that people simply cannot spend what they used to with the way inflation and the global economy is going. I hope things will change eventually.

Yes, they need to get rid of ALL passes. People were waiting for hours in line for the Haunted Mansion once because they were only letting in Lighting Lane which was very long too. Sometime you get a really good Cast member who is skilled at moving both lanes, but that is rare.
