Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi has promised to wage a war on crime and unemployment. Lesufi made the promise while delivering his second and final State of the Province Address (Sopa) last month. Lesufi says no corner of townships, informal settlements, CBDs or hostels will go unpoliced. The premier also highlighted that billions of rands have been attracted to the province which have also led to thousands of jobs. Gauteng, is South Africa's richest province that contributes nearly 40% to national GDP. Lesufi says the province's economy has remained resilient and bounced back with some 449-thousand jobs despite the effect that the COVID-19 pandemic had on employment.
