Government today resisted pressure from the opposition to have its security officers probed for the violent arrests of opposition leader Dr Kiiza Besigye a week ago, but pledged it will undertake investigations on police excesses. In a raging debate in parliament, opposition legislators demanded the arrest of police officer Gilbert Arinaitwe and the mystery man seen in video footage and newspaper clips wearing a hooded jersey and wielding a hammer. Parliament was however in agreement that action be taken to tackle the high inflation that has spiraled prices of basic food commodities.
