Public Affairs takes you to the New Trier Democrats’ endorsement meeting (at the Winnetka, IL Community House) with Cook County States Attorney Democratic Party primary candidates Appellate Justice Eileen O’Neill Burke (Ret.) and University of Chicago Lecturer Clayton Harris III.
After the New Trier Township Democrats heard from the candidates (for about 5 minutes each) on January 28, they endorsed Clayton Harris III for the March 29, 2024, IL Democratic Party primary.
The candidates’ remarks included (1) their vision for the Cook County State’s Attorney office, (2) what the seven year current incumbent in the office, Kim Foxx, got right and what she got wrong and (3) how the two Democrat Primary candidates would endeavor to re-build what many describe as the extremely depressed morale of the current 750 Assistant State’s Attorneys in the office.
Also included in the show is a ten-minute interview, conducted after the endorsement session, by “Public Affairs,” show host Jeff Berkowitz with Cook County State’s Attorney candidate Clayton Harris III (D-Chicago). The interview discussion included, among other topics, a discussion of how the “Out of control violent crime” in Chicago and much of the rest of Cook County for a good part of the last seven years and continuing to the present under State’s Attorney Kim Foxx has been dealt with and should be dealt with going forward.
Questions in the interview, among others, included whether (A) prosecutions for violent crime under Foxx have been dramatically less than her recent predecessors and (B) would candidate Clayton Harris deal differently from the very lenient way Foxx has handled the rampant shoplifting that has been plaguing business in Chicago and much of Cook County in the last seven years.
Neither Democratic Primary candidate Eileen O’Neill Burke nor the Republican candidate for Cook County State’s Attorney, Bob Fioretti, who is running uncontested in the GOP primary (unless a write-in GOP candidate pops up), was available for an interview by “Public Affairs” show host Jeff Berkowitz for this show.
