Continuing taking feedback and suggestions from the community. Script now includes an option to run the Statistical Stretch either in a Linked or UnLinked mode. Various other improvements as well including auto turning off STF when the script is complete, various zoom levels, defaulting the dropdown to the active window and more items!
Keep the comments and suggestions coming as we make this the best little script we can!

I was having trouble with processing the Squid Nebula using GHS. My first session with your Statistical Stretch did the trick. Thank you.

@setiv2
@setiv2 5 месяцев назад
STF still has its purpose with its aggressive stretching. It is fast, and really lets you look for blemishes or any imperfection hiding down in the noise. If you look at the math behind STF though, it is clear they were trying to do something like what I am doing. They just never got around to analytically solving it and used some fudge factor equations for the shift and stretch.

Great addition! I’m curious about two things… 1. How does this script compare to EZ Soft Stretch, as in, what does it do differently? 2. Are you using your script over GHS? Thanks again, my friend!
@setiv2
@setiv2 5 месяцев назад
I dont use anything in the EZ suite, so I cant compare. I guess give both a try and see what you like. I do use this over GHS for the initial stretch. In fact this image I didnt use GHS at all! astrob.in/w2ox0v/0/

This script is very very good Congratz. My suggestions: mimic the local scale by measuring the half of the histogram and scale the top by FFT on slope. Another suggestion is to migrate the preview for the preview tool wait couple of seconds just because of the preview is not good. Many thanks for you script!!!
@setiv2
@setiv2 5 месяцев назад
Not 100% sure your suggestions are. You can always email me, it may be easier tp communicate as we can share images, graphics, and screenshots that way. Glad you got the script and it is working off the bat for you too!
@carvrodrigo
@carvrodrigo 5 месяцев назад
@@setiv2 sorry I was in a hurry. Please let us hit preview instead of an auto preview when we open the script, because sometimes we already knew the values we will use no need for preview.
@setiv2
@setiv2 5 месяцев назад
Ah that i can change. If you know the values you are going to use you can also make drag and drop instamce icons that operate immediately too. There is a parameter openDialogbox that you can change to false in the saved icon parameters. Need to see if others would prefer the preview not populating at the start of the script opening too.
@rbarberac
@rbarberac 5 месяцев назад
@@carvrodrigo Yep +1 about making the preview optional. The default values are target dependent. For example, now we are at galaxy season, so the initial preview with 0.25 median is not useful. But if you change it to 0.1, then it will be wrong next summer :)
@setiv2
@setiv2 5 месяцев назад
1.4.1 was just pushed to the repository. It doesn't auto run the stretch on the preview now and just displays the active window in the preview. Letting you adjust the sliders first and then you will need to click Preview Refresh.

Thank you for this, you did it very well with this Package of scripts. One question to Stat Stretch: When I do this on the Rosett Nebula with stars (RGB) the nebula was nearly invisible after stretching, stars were fine. Doing the same with StarXTerminator before, the stretch was very good at the nebula, it was very well visible and I can do a good post-processing. Have I done something wrong when using the script incl. stars in the image?
@setiv2
@setiv2 4 месяца назад
Usually you remove the stars prior to stretching. Reason being is the stars through off the median and stddev of the nebula. You want the stat stretch analyzing the nebula. I havr a seperate star stretch script to stretch the stars seperately. Frank

I love this script, but I have a question. When using data gathered with an OSC Camera, should I do a linked or an unlinked stretch?
@setiv2
@setiv2 29 дней назад
That depends on the data. If you color calibrate in the linear state then use a linked stretch. If you want the channels seperately stretched becuase you used a duo or triband filter than use an unlinked stretch
@wzuhl
@wzuhl 29 дней назад
@@setiv2 Thank you for the quick reply! I always use a filter (I'm 20 miles from NYC). Unlinked it is. Thanks again! Your scripts have made processing much more fun and easy.

Silly question ... I can see the two scripts in the repository, all updates have been loaded and PI restarted. Where do I launch the scripts? They do not appear under Utilities, not any other script grouping. I also can see the files for both star_stretch and statisticalstretch in the SRC/Scripts directory.

What build do you have? Build 1605 (which came out in March) is the most recent and the one that is directing scripts to be signed now to make those updates. It is also needed for some core scripts too npw like Annotate.

@setiv2

You need to extract the zip file. Then direct feature scripts to that folder. If you have the repository link added, do you get a parsing or signature error? Also verify you have the latest pixinsight build 1605(it came out in march), you can get that from the pixinsight download page.
