This video walks through a hypothesis testing example using the critical value method. In this example, sigma (the population standard deviation) is known. So, it's a z-test, NOT a t-test. This is important!

: It is crucial that the variance of a production process be less than or equal to 25. A sample of 22 is taken. The sample variance equaled 26. a. Construct a 90% confidence interval for the population variance. b. Construct a 90% confidence interval for the population standard deviation. c. State the null and alternative hypotheses to be tested. d. Compute the test statistic. e. The null hypothesis is to be tested at the 10% level of significance. Using the critical value approach, state the decision rule for the test. f. What do you conclude about the population variance?

What if the companies claim is less than a figure and not equal,how do you show the Ho?

PLEASE USE A TABLE INSTEAD OF CALCULATOR. not everyone has that type of calculator

using the table. 95% in the table is 1.645, so 5% is negative

You should look up the normal distribution table which can be found on google.

Hi, I like you explanation but I am a little confused with how you derived the critical value -1.64. Since this is a left tail test with alpha .05, shouldn't the Z critical value be -1.96 (95%) instead?
