I saw this in Central Park in 1980. It was a lot of fun. Linda sang up a storm, but her acting? Whoa... The audience audibly groaned when she gave her one speaking line.
😆 yeah, she’s not a great actress and her speaking voice is profoundly different than her singing voice. I think the line is her asking Fredrick to cheer her father up?
@@tjwash2 @tjwash5118 I don't recall the exact line as it was 44 years ago. It wasn't about her speaking voice -- it was about her line-read, which was laughable.
Am I wrong for thinking Freddy Mercury would've really nailed Fredric's part in this song? I know this isn't funny or fast like so many of the other songs, but this is the one that really made an impression on me when I saw this years ago.
Another great part of the magic in the pit is the BUDGET behind it. I love orchestra as much as the next guy, but our production is being done in a SMALL community theater with a TINY budget and a great cast.
Note that Fredric drops his bag in the middle of the circle, but later brings it up again on the path outside the circle. Wonder how it moved by itself? :)
this is higher than the original verison. i was in an amateur production of it at my high school and i played mabel. i think it might be a third above the original.
Beautiful duet, by two rock singers who wasted their time and talents on inferior material when they could have been doing G&S all along! But the money is in rock. What a pity. They were so lovely, their voices and performances so sincere.
G&S is NOT as delightful without the full orchestration. To wit, the silly Linda Ronstadt vesrion of Pirates. Sullivan conceived his music as a total whole, not piecemeal. AND he did NOT use the XYLOPHONE!
Why do you keep saying "sister" ??? Even if the actress playing Mable IS your sister, then you aren't doing yourself any favours by looking for any excuse to broadcast the fact.
