I flipped the kayak the day we launched from the beach at Navarre and we just started over. I've never flipped on purpose with the intent of trying to get back in. Sounds like a little fiasco but worth the effort. When it warms up I'll try it.

Great Video🙌 Glad you made this check list vid. Many don't carry spare parts for drive systems or leash paddles. I'm getting older now (69) don't like heading out by myself. Knowing you limits is important. I know I push mine at times. There are lots of stupid boaters out there not paying attention. You got to keep a watch out for that. I don't anchor much any more for that reason. Thanks again.

All really good tips. But I do wish there were more vids from experienced kayakers also mentioning the danger of colder water, and the use of drysuits, not just PFDs. Likely, not a problem in Florida, I grant you. But still can effect those of us just getting into the sport, who live in colder climates. Despite watching MANY vids, including yours, before deciding on buying fishing kayaks, my husband and I remained pretty ignorant to the danger of cold water, not thinking it was all that "cold" when we went kayak fishing in the spring and fall. Outside temps were still comfortable on nice days. But didn't even think about the water temps being in the "50s". It wasn't until recently I found out that, had we capsized during those times, we may have been in very serious trouble. Maybe not so much a danger for those capable of very quickly righting and getting back on their kayak, like yourself. But that is definitely not us. Alhough we considered ourselves still physically fit enough to self-rescue, being able to do so within 10 minutes, before the cold starts getting to you, would be unlikely. And probably the same could be said for a lot of kayakers, especially newbies, and those older ones like us. Needless to say, we now have drysuits and will be practicing self-rescue with them the next time we go out. If you should happen to read this, hope you might mention drysuits at times, even if you have no need for them in Florida. Thanks!

Good afternoon Nick! I agree with everything you mentioned in this video. I would also like to add, know your own physical limitations. I had a buddy go out nice and easy with the current down the river, but when it was time to come back he did not take into account the physical effort required going against the current. He was smoked by the time he came back. I could only imagine what would have happened if he flipped his kayak on the way back and not have the physical strength to pull himself back in the kayak. Lastly let someone know where you are going fishing and when you expect to return. On one of my recent fishing trips my Google maps accidentally turned on and was draining my phone battery. I only noticed because the phone was getting very hot in my pocket. When I checked the phone the battery had less than 10% charge and by the time I was done fishing, the battery on my phone was dead.
@NavarreKayakFishing
@NavarreKayakFishing Год назад
Those are both great examples of things that happen that aren't planned. Not understanding the water ways is an entirely direction topic. I could make videos on these things for months lol

Great info Nick. I have used the style of PFD that you are giving away for about five years now and I love them. It's just too hot for any other kind of life jacket around here and I found myself not wearing one until I got the inflatable. Now, I often stop to fish at an island or something and forget I have it on. I almost die of heat exhaustion every time I see someone with the big NRS type life jackets with all of the pockets and extra stuff on them. LOL! I am going to switch to the waist style (thanks for the tip...I am going to amazon as soon as I am done typing this) now too. I have been wanting to do it for a while but my regular inflatable is still in great shape so why spend the extra money. But...I am going to use my wife's logic and just talk about how much money I saved because it was on sale. LOL!!! I really like to be a minimalist too so last fall I started using a fly fishing chest pack that holds one small plano box and a bag of soft plastics. I love it because I put in a couple of hooks/jig heads, a couple of twitch baits, a topwater, and a spoon and away I go. With the waist PFD, I will be back to being super comfortable but still have that extra bit of safety just in case. Thanks for the reminder video! --Brent

@Navarre Kayak Fishing hahaha I completely understand that. Maybe of we were a few years younger and didnt care then you could. It's funny how we get slightly older we (well I) think of things on how not to get hurt from simple tasks. Lol like always Nick I appreciate all that you do for the channel and for us who are not experts in kayaking.

Nick, can you make 1-2'' riser for the YakAttack BlackPak Pro Fishing Crate to go onto the Hobie Lynx? I bought your Hobie Lynx skid plates, works great. I just recently purchased a YakAttack BlackPak Pro for my Hobie Lynx and took it out to the Lake once, I find that the YakAttack BlackPak Pro sits in the way of the Rudder cable, been a pain to pull the cable when I want to. A 1-2'' riser would be great!!

We normally have clothing sales randomly throughout the year. I’ll see if we can get a sweatshirt sale put together.
