This video feels like I just woke up at summer camp and the cool camp counselor is explaining what we're doing for the day. Excited to see what you have in store for the channel Emily, keep up the good work!
Did I just see you do the twist in your backyard? OK, that's cool. Just a thought, what a great time for another installment of, "Emily's Reading Recommendations." Please stay healthy and thanks for the video.
Emily, I want to thank you for your videos. I wish I had half as much enthusiasm an energy as you. Keep up the good work. Please all take care and be safe.
This is one of the most comforting 'vlogs' I've seen among all my subscriptions over the last couple weeks. Excellent bird-loving backyard isolation energy! Good to see you're well, Emily.
It's really nice to see such a friendly face and thanks for sharing such a peaceful environment, also. In such uncertain times, it's very calming to get a visit from someone who radiates positivity the way you always do. Stay safe and keep in touch with us, ok?
I'm so excited for Prehistoric Road Trip! Also, I cannot believe it's been 7 years since you started this channel. I've been watching since the Montana days, and now I'm in university studying archaeology & biology (hoping to go into Museum Studies in the future). I feel like I've grown up with this channel! Glad you're staying positive and loving those birds 😊
I don't have a nice back yard to be in, but today I saw a really cool solitary bee on my porch. It was fuzzy and golden with a bottle green head. Such a cutie.
Thank you, Emily! Videos and virtual tours are keeping me sane right now. I've been self isolating since about weeks before my state made it official, so I'm nearing the end of my tether. But the sooner everyone does this, the sooner we can all go back to "normal".
2 things while im here relatively early. Can you try and get some sort of international release for prehistoric road trip, im in the UK and really want to see it when you're done (id pay to see it somewhere) When this is all over, and your perhaps considering another international trip, can i recommend the Hunterian museum in the royal collage of surgeons in london. its absolutely stuffed with amazing specimens not quite natural history but very unique. I'm off to hibernate till this all blows over.
I don't have the details for streaming Prehistoric Road Trip right now, but I am hopeful/confident it will be available to stream through certain online providers/services...! More information on that soon! And I'd love to visit London some day! So many great museums!
“Just bury yourself some in detritus and leave litter.” Definitely my favorite pandemic metaphors I have heard. EDIT: That would be a make a great graphic or shirt
Jocuro I think, she actually said: ‚bury yourself in some detritus and *leaf* litter‘. As in, ‚hide under old leaves‘, not ‚leave junk lying around‘. 😉
Emily, you have such a positive attitude and your love of nature is wonderful. These are uneasy times so your video is great to watch. Thanks and i look forward to your next one. Stay Safe.
EMILY! I love The Brain Scoop! It's been an absolute joy to watch for years! Getting to visit the Field and the striped hyena diorama was one of the coolest things I've ever done in my life. THANK YOU for all that you do!
I would love to spend time in my garden. two weeks ago I was looking at seeds and checking sprinkler lines. Then it began snowing and hasn't stopped. Winter is my favourite, but I am so ready for spring. Best do like the fish and hunker down again.
'Bury yourself in some detritus and leaf litter and we'll make it through ok...' - ok, got it! 😄 I miss you and your videos Emily - but for now, please take care! 💖
Today was the first day of week-4 for some of us in Seattle. Bird feeders stocked, and just built and mounted a brand new nestbox for chickadees (or hopefully Bewick's wrens).
Glad to see you're well and accompanied by many cat companions! Glad to hear your project is still on track. I spoke to you last year about my Masters thesis on the BS and you were just heading out for some fieldwork at the time. I had started my analysis of those aforementioned 8 years of BS videos before all this went down, but now I have more time to spend on it xD I'm sure I'll be back in contact again some time later this year if the September start date isn't pushed back with everything happening. Take care of yourself, enjoy the wildlife that comes to visit!
My birds have been plowing through the my large feeder about every 8 days since April (it’s 5/22/20 today) that’s nearly 10 pounds a shot. Feel like they’re eating me out of house and home but they still give me happiness with their variety and antics
I stumbled upon Brain scoop last week when I needed to find something to distract myself from obsessing over the news. It has been such a great way to learn and be entertained and all that jazz. Emily, you’re hilarious and smart and thank for for everyone involved in this show.
It's really awesome to see that there are people in this world that are doing cool things and being successful whilst going full space cadet. It isn't just me and success is possible!
Last summer I was lucky enough to be able to collect and prepare an already dead raccoon from the back of my house (it's legal in my area, I checked!) and I would LOVE to do that right now. Dissecting is a great social distancing hobby because no one in their right minds will come within 6 feet of you. But of course, the day before quarantine, I broke my ankle and am unable to comb the woods for new bone friends. Instead I've been watching lots of crows. Crows are so cool.
Thankyou Emily for your mssg. Glad to see you are taking care. Thankyou also for sharing your birds in the background... they sound just beautiful !!! Funny, some may find that irritating. Guess ya gotta love birds, lol. ;-) ps > love the observation of the neighbors house, LOL
You know what, Emily? I really appreciate you and everything you do. We’ve never met, probably never will, and yet after following your videos and Instagram posts for about 6 of those 7 years watching this video feels like an uplifting visit with an old friend. You’re just so personable, real, and likeable. Thanks for all of that, and thanks for this. Stay well, and stay safe, buddy! Also: I’d totally be into more home and cat content from you!
The bird feeding tray reminded me of a something: My biology teacher (in the last century) explained to us that feeding birds during winter is a bad thing. It means that the sick birds are able to find food survive long enough to be able to infect others. A bit like todays times when social distancing should prevent spreading a disease...
Your reaction to the birds was pretty much me when I found all the bugs and insects in the backyard. Should’ve reminded people to only go outside for their backyard while physically distancing :P
Always a pleasure to "see" you, whether you are wallowing in some poor creature's brains or interviewing an expert on some obscure prehistoric mold spores. Seeing you in your "natural habitat" was pleasant, as well as informative (you can tell a lot about a person by snooping their medicine cabinet and by eavesdropping on their conversations with their avian tenants). Stay well, stay safe, and stay on course to return and wow me with some additional knowledge I will not realize I need until you fill my brain with it.Until then......................
As for staying curious, you could always get a microscope and look at some of that pond water. I'm sure there's a lot of interesting microbiology in there.
Has your museum ever considered photographing everything from all sides, and creating a virtual museum? It could be a great thing. For scholars and museum enthusiasts, they could purchase a subscription service that would allow virtual study of the museum's entire collection. Imagine the discoveries that might be made.
humorous and goofy young lady. i like goofy and humorous. also like your brain. watched Prehistoric Road Trip in summer 2020. great show! the 1st episode just reaired tonite and i enjoyed it as much as the 1st time. this is one of the best series i have seen in quite a while. have never seen any of the sites you went to. would really like to, but age and health keep me from traveling much. so, i'll keep watching shows and videos like yours and live vicariously by them. now i know about your you-tube channel, i will be watching you. am subscribed, so won't miss any new vids. keep them coming and do some more like Road Trip, please.
Nice bird feeder.... I hang my new feeder from a tree limb on a set of pulleys so I can fill it up and then raise it up beyond the reach of the local deer. They destroyed the old one... AND my classic concrete birdbath.
Videos with your cats as associate producers and writers. Some "the biggest science mysteries" according to your cats. Such hit topics Like "why dont the birds ever come inside", "what is this invisible barrier", "where does your food bowl go when you leave the room", "why emily never lets me eat plastic?" Or just videos of you talking about your neighbor's roof. I'm happy with anything really. Glad to see you are doing okay.
And with this video, I finish catching up on all thebrainscoop! I was a bit out of order for some around the pandemic times! Looking forward to the new stuff! Yay!
There's one dislike?!?! Red Winged Blackbird obviously! You'd have to have been living with the fishes in detritus to not have already watched the 7 years of content you've graced us with but I'm telling you, some of her early dissections are absolute gold! Looking forward to your series coming out on PBS, they've really always done really good stuff but have really stepped it up lately on their broadcast channels. Talk about a Rabbit Hole, Lol. Stay Safe everyone!
