Just found you. I appreciate your content. I was surprised you didn’t include “baby wipes.” I use them often - washing my hands, refreshing face or arm pits on hot sandy days. Great for wiping off feet before bed. I’ll keep watching.

Well hey Carrie, Welcome! It's so great to have you here. You're right about baby wipes. They're a must-have. I really could have gone on and on about wipes and vitamins and hydration, etc. But you probably would have gotten bored after the first hour. LOL!! Thanks for taking the time to mention it. And thanks for being here.

I found that baby powder works great to take me from sticky and hot to cool and no friction on my legs and underarms. I'm alone, so I'm happy to be able to sit and lie down and feel good in my skin.

For me, the most important personal cleanliness things are..wipes, lots of wipes, makeup wipes ,also. Tons of clean wash cloths, baby powder, my favorite perfume, toothbrush,toothpaste, eye moisturizer with anti aging ingredients, several facial moisturizers. Deodorant, all are crucial.

We just have to have a lot of travel size toiletries when traveling!! It’s amazing how much we do not need, yet how much we do! Life is just full of little ironies! 😁 Many toiletries can be DIY with pure ingredients you choose, made in personalized size batches, like sunscreen. Mix zinc ointment with a carrier oil, cream, gel (jojoba or aloe for example) at a ratio of your choosing. I also use Dr. Bronners concentrated liquid castile soap for all my cleaning: shampoo, body wash, dish soap, laundry soap, all purpose cleaner. One soap, diluted to different ratios, with multiple uses cuts down on how many products I need to carry with me. I always enjoy and learn something from your videos!

I use shampoo and conditioner bars, goats milk soap bar and Zote laundry bar ( which is gentle enough for face and hair use) they take up less space than bottles

Leslie, I use any kind of shampoo . I then rinse my hair with vinegar (and then water!) and use rosemary oil. It leaves it tangle free. do not use a lot of rosemary oil, take the bottle and put your palm of your hand on it tightly turn it upside down and then quickly turn it back. it should have less than a drop on your hand. rub your palms together and run over your hair a few times. it will be so easy to brush. I discovered this when I had hair down to my waist and it was a pain to brush and braid. Its now short .... I guess its "Covid" short about 8 inch pony tails if I wore pony tails LOL I didn't realize it had gotten that long. Haven't had it cut for a year. I think I'll wait for a few more months and then donate it. It will help keep me warm this winter. I must say you have more darn products than I ever had at one time, other than when I was an Avon lady eons ago but as you can see from my avatar not even a minivan full of products would help. I put extra safety pins on my back curtain. I did that because the curtain is snapped onto binding tape that is tied to the hinges of the hatch door and I know some day that they will rip . I pull them off the snaps because I don't drive with them up. I am not too gentle with them. some day I'll make a van tour video.

Nota, I can't wait for the van tour video! I know what you mean about covid hair, LOL! Mine was so long that it was breaking; it was time for it to go! Thanks for sharing your tips.🙂

Here is a facial tip for a scrub. When you are in the shower, wet your face and scrub with plain ole white sugar. Rinse and you have really smooth skin. I actually use it on my legs and arm pits too before I shave. I have noticed the scrub in the arm pit area reduces any razor bumps you might sometimes get. I am assuming the sugar is scrubbing away deodorant and sweat residue and possible bacteria.

The time you remove the sewing kit from the van will be the time you need it! Have you ever had the solid deodorants melt in the heat of the van? I've been a salt and pepper for years now; short and tidy, no hair products and could even get away without a brush. I will definitely check out that sunscreen. Thanks for sharing.
@TheVanThatGotAway
@TheVanThatGotAway 3 года назад
Hey MJ! Nope, haven't had any issues with deodorant melting. Sounds like you struck the right balance with hair care🙂 I feel like in a couple more months, I'll be full salt and pepper, too. Or maybe just salt, LOL!!

I'd add clear saline nasal spray. When visiting Arizona, my sinuses were so dry, I bled! The Xclear w capsaicin helped with the pain, too! Also, all little bottles need screw on caps. The pop up caps leak and open.

Informative, but at 65 too much stuff. I have found CeraVe to take care of most of my skin needs. I had eczema most of my life along with other skin problems. Now that DH does dishes I don't have as many issues. Except for REALLY dry callused feet. CeraVe conquers it. Dermatologist recommended it no perfumes or added stuff and I swear by it. I use a face cream and considering an eye cream. If you haven't listed the one you use could you reference it for me. I use the individual refresh eye drops. Eye Dr. Recommended to individual as there is no preservative in it. You can get several uses out of the Refresh brand as the top pops back on. One 'vial' small enough to tuck in pocket. How did you wash your hair and shower while traveling? Thanks for the information.

Hi Jo! Thanks for that helpful info, and yep - I included a link to the eye serum for you in the video description. Thanks for asking. Re: showering, we never usually travel too far from a campsite with facilities. But sometimes we do! For that situation, I set up a "shower" with some tent flys and magnets. I'll do a video about it for you! 😃

Hello Leslie, Thank you very much for posting a picture and for the response about the shoe rack. I just saw this video last night. 1. I would like to know how can I post the stuff that I use for my Vanlife so that people can buy or order them. And do I need a video for it or just have a photo so they can see it. I'm not a youtube savy like you😊 Please, Do you have a suggestion how can I do a youtube videos thank you very much. Be safe and stay healthy Leslie. Your Vanlife follower & friend Lilynor😍🥰
@TheVanThatGotAway
@TheVanThatGotAway 2 года назад
Hi Lilynor! You can do that a few different ways. If you look up an item online, you can just copy the link to that web page and post it anywhere: on facebook or your blog or email it to people, whatever you want. But if you'd like to get credit for any sales and earn a few bucks for the referral, you can join Amazon's Affiliate program. If you search for that, you'll find out lots of information about how to join. And again, you can just post the links anywhere you want. I hope this helps! Best of luck with it, go get 'em. 😊😀

Ask any questions, you said, so here goes..... Since you didn't add any insulation to your walls or interior roof, I'm wondering if you would recommend that for cold nights and really hot days? What did you use for heat, if needed, and do you feel you might consider roof air? Also, would you consider solar on your roof and a portable generator like the Jackery etc, or is all your camping done in campgrounds where there is electrical power? (I think you already mentioned that you'd like "power" the next time around. I'm assuming by that you meant electrical power, not solar.) ????? Thanks!
@TheVanThatGotAway
@TheVanThatGotAway 3 года назад
Hey Pat! Great questions... We haven't suffered without insulation. Our coldest nights were around the freezing mark. But with good, warm sleeping bags we were fine, no heat needed. When it's super hot, we generally don't spend much time hanging out in the van during the daytime. We're hiking or visiting museums or driving. At night it usually cools down enough that we're very comfortable with just a flat sheet for a cover. And of course we fire up the chargeable fan. We wouldn't change a thing. Roof air, for us, would be more involved than we care to tackle. The beauty of having a van is you can always drive to better weather, right? I'm always considering possibilities, like adding some kind of power source, solar or whatever. The only reason we'd do that is to help with creating videos on the road. We'll see. Sometimes we wind up at campgrounds with electric, sometimes it's primitive sites, sometimes boondocking, sometimes a rest area. And because we do so much driving we can A.B.C. (Always Be Charging!) LOL!! Thanks for asking.

My mini van isn't insulated and along with a good sleeping bag and blankets I carry some Pocket warmers, I'm in the southwest in the winters but it still gets cold. I put it in my sleeping bag to help take the chill off as I'm getting ready to get in, and wearing a stocking hat makes a big difference in keeping warm. dressing in layers etc. I only remember being really cold once, but that was my fault. I didn't get a tote put back in the van after stopping to visit and I didn't realize it until that night when I stopped to sleep- no sleeping bag, no blanket and no pillow. I used towels and clothes everything I could get my hands on LOL ( at that time I didn't carry the pocket warmers. I don't use them all the time just when it gets real cold.) I always fill up my tank before going into the desert or anywhere off the pave roads so that I can run my heater or air conditioning if I need it. I also carry plenty of water. A cup of warm tea or hot chocolate will help keep you warm too.

Hello again Les. I really enjoy watching you...great personality girl ☺️💗. My hubby & I had to sell our tiny Casita travel trailer 😢. Moving into a beautiful 55+ community. Did not want pay storage fees 💰💰. We are considering doing what you did. Did you look at other make/models before buying your van to convert? I’d love to see/hear more on your search. Keep up the informative videos!!! Is your hubby camera shy?😄

I had to sell my Scamp...could not watch it bake and get ruined in the Florida sun! I wanted to travel more but family intervened. Now I’m fixing up,a Honda Minivan, and it is challenging. Just fitting things in it, with the uneven floors and uneven walls is so difficult. For two people I’d recommend something a bit larger.

Hi Ruby! I pretty much immediately narrowed it down to either a Toyota Sienna or a Honda Odyssey, mainly based on preference for those two makes. I've always had terriffic reliability with Toyota and Honda. Then instead of letting endless research delay my progress (as I have been known to do, LOL!), I browsed the AutoNation site, found an Odyssey with low mileage and a fair price & pulled the trigger on it. Could have just as easily been a Sienna. I expect I would have been happy either way. Thanks for asking. And I'll get the hubby in a video, have no fear!

I have a old Entourage (Hyundai) I think they only made it from 2007-2009 but the floors are flat- and an 8ft piece of plywood fits in on the floor. it doesn't have the storage behind the front driver/passenger in the floor like some mini vans but it has where the back row seats folded into the floor that would be good for storage, but I use it for my bathroom/dressing area because it gives me room to "stand" (bent over a little) Its ground clearance is higher than the sienna and the Odyssey. I traveled to the Artic in it and the roads were not well maintained (insert hysterical laughter here, I even stopped to take a photo of a pot hole up to my knee, rocks almost the size of basket balls) so it was important to me to have high clearance and a flat floor because I did not build it out. I just used a Coleman cot for a bed for years. The Sienna has higher clearance than the Odyssey but it would depend on what type of camping you are planning if that would matter to you. hope this information is helpful to you.
