Half ropes (or doubles) can seem pretty daunting, but they needn't! There's nothing ground breaking to think about, but hopefully this highlights some basic things to think about.

Hi Jez, I find Alt leads like this will end up with one twist every time, and more if you keep coming into belays on one side each time. One way to solve this is; If your climbing partner climbs to you on your left for example and will lead off up / left of you, when you get to the belay pass your right rope (Blue in your vid) behind you and over you head. Then feed both ropes over yours to make a pile out of the way on the right, also easier to lock off the belay over the top. One less chance of twisting, no need to do this if bloc leading or if you mind on who is leading the next pitch just pass the rope back before you set off.

Great advice, i thought I knew how it all worked until I actually started multi pitch climbing...... then I found out I needed loads more practice!

Hi Jez, whats your thoughts on turning the belay device over before your buddy climbs through? i.e taking them off belay at the stance and re-orientating device before they set off.

I'll do it sometimes, but don't always need to, depends a little on the belay stance as to how easy that is to do.
