Staying Warm over night In A Bushcrafted Shelter 

What a badass. Just playin his flute out in the wilderness by a fire in the middle of the night... Hes the uncle we all need.

A lot of people can survive in the wilderness, but if you want to feel completely at peace, be comfortable, well fed, and gain some wisdom, go with Lonnie.

There is nothing better than sitting around a fire and enjoying the peace and thinking. I'm sure I would love those beans and rice. I dearly love Spam. I have been eating it since I was a wee fella. Love the hot water bottle trick. I sleep with a thick wool beanie that I can pull down around my ears and the back of my neck. Keeps me very warm while sleeping. What better way to wake up . A beautiful morning, hot beans and rice and a hot cup of coffee. That truly is a great life. Thanks for the video and a great time.

Hell of dish to wake up to, slow cooked and ready on waking, can't be beat for comfort or eating!

Can I just say I never new stuff like this before and I stared asking my grandpa if I could go out in the wild and stay a night alone and I used your techniques and they work perfectly and I never would have gotten to do this without these videos so can we all say thank you Lonnie 👍🏼😊

you know Lonnie, there are so many yt channels explaining stuff, showing this and that, where you learn a lot surely, and so one... your channel is a mix of that, but the most important thing is that your videos are that kind of videos where you finish to watch it and you just want to take the rucksack , sleeping bag and go outside. and im sure very much people do that ;) i think these are the best kind of videos :) greeting from italy

Extremely glad your doing these videos, I believe this sort of thing should be taught as a supplement added onto the school systems. While most see it as novelty these day's I see it as essential, people forget how to survive where dose that leave them worse comes to worse? I LOVE bushcraft and the outdoors, and useful things are what I love to learn and use and speaks to my Norse blood. Thank you for making these and explaining for people to learn from, not many seasoned bushcrafters share their know how with out high costs these day's...I will teach my kids all I know when there old enough to soak it up...piece of mind is what it is :)

This will probably be to much thou I hope you find appreciation of it. When I watch your videos they bring back so many good memories of my adopted Dad. Him and mom took me off the streets where I would run away from my real father. Gene taught me more about myself and survival after my grandad passed. He taught me the warriors way. I miss him so much. He's most likely with God yelling and screaming about the things he didn't agree with. So I know he's finally found peace. I have learned a lot from you Sir and I thank you. I thank you also for the memories.

Just watched this video now. Beautiful. A man truly in tune with the environment he lives in. Loved the idea of breakfast. Might give it a try in my slow cooker - not half as exciting as being in the wilds, but one can dream. God bless.

I really enjoyed this one. I live vicariously through your videos, until we can get to the place where we can do it ourselves. We’re in the 5th year of our 5 year plan to get to the high lonesome. Somewhere in the northern Rockies... maybe Alaska. In my job, some days I have to spend time (hours) in a freezer that maintains between -10 to -30 degrees. I use a helmet liner also. Mine was made for tank drivers, and it does a great job of keeping my noggin warm. I also use it for cold camping.

Thank you for the video. I lived in Fairbanks a while. Went up there for the job. Drove up there one early February. Rolled my pickup truck, busting all the tires and windows, off the road, down into a ravine, about 50 miles East of Tok. A couple of young men rescued us, my wife, my dog, and myself. The folks of Tok took care of us and got me to work in Fairbanks, early. The temperatures were down to 32 degrees below zero Fahrenheit. The snow was 2-3 feet deep. The best thing about The Alaskan wilderness is the people. They saved our lives. Lonnie, you are of that bunch. I will never forget that. God bless you. If you come down to central Texas, you have a place in my home. Texas

Great video my mother used to use an old cider jug filled with hot water in my bed during the winter months, what I remember they made great hot water bottles, thanks for bringing us along.

Good to see the shelter in action in the snowy season! The trappers used to cache resources (traps, gear, sheet metal wood stoves, some food, axes, knives, tools, matches, cordage, etc), in many places along their lines, including their tiny cabins and shelters. I can imagine them caching dutch ovens in their many camps so they did not have to carry them. Upon arriving and bush camp, they emptied whatever meat and other grub they had into the DO, kindled the fire and walla, instant stew with whatever ingredients were at hand! A few spices, some salt, and preferably some extra fat, and they ate like kings!

Even with no wind -14 c is quite cold! The coldest we get here is about -10-/12 celsius but mostly 5 months of winter is around a few degrees below or above 0 (The gulf stream)The lean-to sure looks plenty warm and cosy, I hope I get the chance to make one sooner than later. Thank you for the video and for the recipe, it sounds very tasty.

Lonnie, I don't comment on every video but I've been watching you and Connie often. I not only enjoy but learn lots of tricks and most of all your humble subtle ways with your calm and peaceful explanation to all I see you do. I will say I use your same basic sleep method in colder weather. I use a tarp wrap around wool or fleece blankets with insulated hard hat liner or beanie. I tuck a piece of old flannel bed sheet for a face cover and it works pretty good to insulate the cool air. But I'm a side sleeper and my head always faces the fire so I've got my face open to the air some unless really cold and I drape my flannel piece of sheet. Lol I used my cotton bandanna once and woke up with ice on my face. It's not Alaska cold here but when you go to bed at 30-36 degrees and the cold front blows in and you get up at -2 it does something to use ole texas fellows. Keep up the great work and sharing your experiences and ideas.

Getting away from our degenerated "civilized" society ... probably the only true cure. No need for therapists and shit... Love your vids !

You videos re the coziest! If there was a cafe that just did one pot dishes like your rice and beans, I would eat there all the time.
