great informative video. what is the blue cord thing on the back of the vest? I have seen it more than once so I assume it's something necessary. Thanks!

The blue cord is the safety 'ripcord' which tears the vest off in an extreme emergency situation.

Which Nikon is that?

Well, it was a very light rig on a track, rather than rough ground, and we had walked it through without the rig on first to risk assess.

Be aware that using a home-built stabilizer completely invalidates your camera warranty, plus your own personal, business and production insurance, so you break the camera on it, or it breaks you, you are not covered.

Dear Santa, for Christmas I would like....

It would hurt, so we suggest not to do that. With a heavy Steadicam falling over can break your back, so this is why a trained assistant & adequate insurance is required, the kit is maintained thoroughly and all equipment is certified & insurable, unlike most of the cheap stabilizer systems. A professional operator costs money because all these things need to be paid for, (as well as proper training) so it's not worth skimping on Steadicam!

Have a word with Mr Google.

Then I could break my back, if that happened with a heavy Steadicam & camera setup. That's why you need proper training, lots of practice & a spotter!
