I'm splitting oak & a little bit of birch right into IBC totes loosely. I use the "cutouts" of the totes to keep the wood from falling out. It's very easy to do and works well. Thanks for watching!!#woodhound #splittingfirewood #firewood #firewoodbusiness #logsplitter #ibctote #supersplit #supersplitter

Nice job splitting that day! I recall Dick’s video (Old guy Firewood) on that topic of a stacked amount an loose stack for the totes! I see he left a comment on your vid below! That’s awesome 😎! Anyways, thanks for having us out to the woodyard that day! It’s definitely the place to be! Andrew from NB :)

Those 275 gal totes will yield you 1/4 cord or 32 cu ft if stacked level to the top of the tote, or 1/3 cord or 42 cu ft if stacked 15” higher. That would be if your logs are cut at 16” with two rows stacked. I crunched the numbers to calculate those measurements, 😁. Did that in preparation of starting a firewood business on the side. I bought the HD model. I’ve watched your videos, and some, multiple times, lol. I appreciate your effort in sharing them.

You’re welcome and thanks for watching and taking time to comment. When I was stacking and selling by 1/3 cord I would stack the pieces heaped over around 10”-12” over the rails. Now I sale by the 1/4 cord loose in a tote. I wish you the best in your firewood business!! Thanks again!

@@TwinCityFirewood I just like to see people succeed in whatever their interest is. My plan is to mainly sell firewood bundles. If I end up selling bulk,…it’ll be by the 1/4 cord. I already have some ideas as to how be unique and different from the other sellers around this area. I will keep watching, and staying in touch. Have a blessed night.

That seems a hard setup to beat right there. Splitting right into the totes like that. I love to do whatever I can to save time with my methods as well so you not having to stack is a win win, in my opinion. Glad to see more content from you my friend. I enjoy watching!

Excellent video! Thanks for the shoutout. I’m looking for a conveyor and when I find one I’m going to start loose stacking in my totes. Less touches is the answer. You do need a good supply of totes if you’re loose stacking.

Thanks for your comment!! It doesn’t like knotty pieces all that much. If you can split the straight wood off of them first and split with the knot towards the wedge it will do a much better job. Many thanks for watching!!

Great job. I first started my side hustle splitting by hand with a fiskars x27 like yours. I feel like that helped with learning how to break down knotty rounds on the super splitter. For me, it seems like maple and cherry are more of a pain to split than oak has been when it’s knotty. Some twisted grain cherry from a hedge row is what got me to buy a splitter in the first place. I couldn’t even split it effectively with wedges and a sledge hammer. It just seemed to eat the wedges before it would bust open. The super splitter took care of it once it came, but I had to hit it several times to allow it to twist to go through the knife. It was by far the worst that I split. But it’s long gone now. And the super splitter has been well worth it. Keep up the great work!
@TwinCityFirewood

I know what you mean with the twisted cherry. I got into a real wavy grain cherry last year. It surprised me how tough it was to split! Thanks for your comment!

I hope my Super Split shows up soon, I was notified it was getting close to shipping a couple weeks back. I need it badly, gotta stack of rounds waiting that’s gonna be 2+ cords, then about 4 cords to re split! Like your large table- mine will be like that too. Seriously a great machine! How long to fill that tote?? What part of Tennessee? I have family around Alcoa.

Many thanks for watching & commenting!! Your new super splitter will make quick work of that wood you have ready to split. Takes 25 mins on average to split a tote like that. If I wanna rush I can do it faster for sure. I’m in NW TN close to KY.

You don't put anything under the IBC totes so they don't freeze to the ground?

I put down a lot of wood chips where the totes are stored. I did tear one tote up this winter from being frozen to the ground. The chips weren’t thick enough. What would you suggest to use? Appreciate your comment and time watching!

@TwinCityFirewood
@TwinCityFirewood 8 месяцев назад
Thanks a lot! I really like it. You can split a lot of wood in a little bit of time. I think it’s probably the most productive splitter you can get for less than 3k. It doesn’t muscle through knotty rounds like a hydraulic splitter will but slices through straight wood with ease. I have a playlist with SS videos if you’re interested. Appreciate your time watching!!

Hey TCFW, Is that a J model or the HD? Just curious on the difference
@TwinCityFirewood
@TwinCityFirewood Год назад
Mine is the J model. It has 2-75 lb flywheels the HD version uses 2-90lb wheels I believe. I love mine. I’d buy a J model all over again b/c it splits everything I’ve asked it to (other than crazy knarly pieces). It will split crotches with no problem if you read the grain. But I have learned to stay away from really tough pieces. It’s not worth the time to take a chance getting hung up on the wedge. It won’t muscle through a piece like hydraulic splitters will. Thanks for watching & commenting.

Awesome video! Hey question so a stacked heaping 275gallon ibc tote is a face cord/ or 1/3 of a cord, If u loose stack a 275 ibc heaping it is 1/4 of a cord?
@TwinCityFirewood
@TwinCityFirewood Год назад
Many thanks!! Yes. A 275gal tote cut @ 16” lengths stacked in 2 rows & heaped over the top rails 8”-10” should equal 1/3 cord. And yes to the loose stack also, heaping over a good portion above the rails. This is using inside dimensions of 38”x 42”x 46”. A loose cord measures 180 cu ft. Stacked=128 cu ft. Thanks for watching & commenting. Hope this helps
