Steakhouses are not like other restaurants: they're more like clubs with their own rules and conventions. Don't be caught breaking any of these rules when dining at one.

Comments like yours are kind of sad. Some men just weren’t raised around steakhouses. What about the college student on a dinner interview lined up with his potential new boss that found this information? Loosen up, dude.

@@JorgeCanovas In this situation, the boss is senior, so the college student should just follow his lead. If the student puts on a suit for the first time ever, and orders a cocktail for the first time ever, and tries to navigate a wine list for the first time ever, he's going to make mistakes. In this situation, the boss needs to be 100% in charge.

Woah this is so true My family visit a particular steakhouse every week, and my father always tips them, it wasn't much but still appreciated. After like 3 months, there was one time I just came back from school, 4pm, wearing my uniform, and nobody got a problem. Another customer complained about me, and the waiters and waitresses calmly explain "they are our regulars, and the young man just had a rough day". Now I know why my father says that the tips are to respect their line of work, coz now my father also earns their respect.

In theory I agree with the idea of dining well dressed. In reality most occasions when I have an opportunity to dine at a fine steakhouse are when I am on vacation and are impromptu opportunities. And with the kids. So I end up being dressed more like a tourist in shorts, etc. I have never been turned away. I can't even really say I have been treated poorly. The kids are well behaved. We don't overburden the staff. And tip commiserate with service which is always well.

Sometimes, and ONLY if it is a house made sauce, do you use the steak sauce. But you NEVER put it directly on the meat, only on the plate to dip it in. Quite a few steak houses are proud of their house made steak sauce and want you to try it. The ones that do make their own sauces are worth taking up on that.

I appreciate these videos, but the concept of spending 100$ on a cut of meat is so far removed from where I'm comfortable in life, "It's absurd" doesn't even begin to address it. Also, I like how the server tried to give that 15-20% tip a kick in the ass by suggesting a damn "Seafood Tower" For the reasonable price of 100+ USD ahaha.
@captainapaullo
@captainapaullo 8 лет назад
+SainnQ servers in high end establishments are salespeople whose livelihood depends on a percentage of meal and beverage totals. seafood expires. when one's manager tells one to push the seafood, one complies. also, you're not just tipping the server, you owe gratuity for wine steward, table steward, bartender, and maitre d. in an upscale joint, 40% or better is not unusual. if one does not have the means to afford fine dining, and tip generously, one should find a good butcher and learn how to cook.

+Simon Beaulieu Not only that; why is it the customers job to make sure the waiters have a livelyhood? We are not employing them, the restaurant is. In most (if not all) european countries; the waiters are only tipped if they performed properly, or if the diners had an outstanding experiences. It rewards ''that little extra'', but, importantly, does not expect it. A proper, normal service, requires no 'tips' if the customer isn't comforable with it. Why not? Because the bloody restaurant pays their staff enough to live of off... America has got it all backwards, as it does with so many things.

EraChanZ SainnQ Simon Beaulieu You don't live, work, or dine in most [if not all] european countries, so moaning about how it's better elsewhere is ridiculous. Most [if not all] european countries have national health and considerably higher taxes. You live, work, and dine here and should act accordingly. Proper normal service here in the states requires a tip. You surely are aware that most [if not all] servers [according to current state and municipal statute] earn less than $4 hourly from their employer. If or when that changes... if or when your dining bill increases by 2x or 3x so that establishments can afford to produce quality product, and pay servers a living, and turn a profit, what will be your comment? That restaurant and those servers are there for one reason: to make money... not to make your life better for free or supply your dining experience with "that something extra" without being compensated. Did you think you were getting "that something extra" because service industry workers like you? No. Service industry workers produce "that something extra" for those who tip generously. Those are the patrons servers like. When the bellman or cabin steward brings your bags to the room the hand is out. You tip. When the delivery arrives, you tip. If you can't or won't tip for service, you can't afford service. If you can't or won't tip generously, you're just an ass. Beware returning to a restaurant where you have dined without tipping. Those servers know you and are instructing the kitchen to ruin and pollute your food in filthy and disgusting but not obvious ways. And filthy, disgusting non-tipping diners deserve it. When you are seated at a servers' table you are employing them, in the same way they are using their skills in the service industry to earn your money. You don't want to pay $100 for a meal, and you don't want to tip. Those who cannot deal with the reality that service requires tipping shouldn't be dining out. Most [if not all] servers don't want those like you at their tables anyway... so, you should patronize fast- or fast casual establishments or stay home and learn to cook.

SainnQ The server pushed the seafood because management instructed them to. Shellfish expires. Items need to sell. Yes, the seafood tower would increase the total bill and the tip because it's based on that percentage. But when a server offers a fish special, that is not the motivation. Specials are based on moving what is in the restaurant's inventory prior to spoilage.

Lol at best I show up to steakhouses wearing a polo and jeans most times. Dressing up doesn’t get you good service, it’s usually an indicator that you don’t go out to nice places often and you won’t be returning much anyway. Going a dozen times a month is going to get you the good service because you tip well.

He didn't dress up in the most expensive suit. He actually stated to not be afraid to order the cheapest wine. He said to watch out for the seafood add ons as it can get expensive. After all, steak by itself is a filling meal. Food doesn't have to be expensive to be good. Nor does it have to be cheap. Good is good, regardless of price. I can appreciate this guy ordering his meat rare. Most order medium rare. In all of his videos.. he ALWAYS gets rare. That is his preference. Douche? I say not. Creds: (non at all) I have eaten cheap bistec at a local Mexican diner all the way to Mastros, Chicago steak houses, NYC, Japan, etc. I still like Sizzler's because I thought it was awesome as I grew up. These days I sous vide and reverse sear my meat and still go out to get someone else's take on one of my favorite food items. Yeay steak!

$99 dollars for a steak?!! WTF... Here in Texas, if you're willing to drive a little, you can go to your local cattle rancher and they will butcher and prep for you AN ENTIRE COW that you get to take home in steaks, ground meat, rounds, etc. You can get a whole cow for 4 of those steaks. Plus your money stays local and you help out your local ranchers.
