Awesome content as always. Whats fascinating is that the Platypus can now be ordered with a competition trigger rated at 2.5 lbs and threaded barrel for 1700 bucks. Thats insane considering it takes glock mags.
yep!! lead times have jumped like crazy though, it was 4 weeks and now I believe its 14. they will also be offering a RMR cut later down the road too i believe.
Just built my Platypus and ordered it. The simple fact of the customization all the way down to the color of the pins is insane. And less than $2k. Super excited. However I shot my buddies Prodigy and loved it. Don’t think you’ll go wrong with any of them. Great comparison video.
This info is greatly appreciated. I got my list down to the Platypus and the Bul Ultralight. I went with the latter option and am not disappointed. A Staccato of some flavor is in my near future as they’re made in Texas.
i’ve had all 3. platy and staccato at same time. i will say i think i enjoyed the platy a little more than most but if you can afford one, get an atlas’s and you’ll never need another 2011 again. got an erebus and artemis, destroys the other three by a huge margin
i tell everyone that comes into the shop looking at 1911s about the platypus hoping they will go home, order one and send it for the transfer so that i can check one out.
@@will-zj5gq they did say April release at the end of last year. I have seen some online saying august now. I'm waiting to see some reviews before I get one but still exciting stuff
I think you will like to gen 2 staccato grips that can easily be stippled for that extra grip. I ran the ice comp in open for a while but doesn't make that much of a difference to me. With Limited Optics introduced, these guns are perfect for that. Running Double alpha safteys and Atlas takedown pin gas pedal (unfortunately makes it only useable with the double alpha race holster). I ordered the Atlas Titan and plan to carry the staccato P once that comes in, but looks like I will be shooting the staccato in Area 4. Interested to see how the 5" slide/barrel fares against the staccato 4.4" slide 5" threaded barrel
Love the idea of the "Hybrid trigger". Drawing the difference between a flat and totally curved trigger is my ideal. I want to get a trigger with that profile on an AR.
Great video! Thank you for the way you present the information. Like you I seen tons of videos and post trashing the Staccato and the Prodigy. I don’t know about the Staccato but I am thoroughly impressed with my Prodigy, it is my third 2011\1911 double stack with the other two being high end customs. I was able to tinker with the factory components in my Prodigy and achieve a nice 3lbs trigger. Granted it probably will wear out, when it does I will replace it with high end parts.
I don’t think a prodigy is super nice but I do always recommend it to people wanting to get into a DS1911. I think the fact it takes the same magazines as the “big boys” so if you buy a nicer DS1911 your 125$ dollar mags don’t just collect dust 🤣. I also do love all the upgrades currently available for it. You can get into one cheap and customize it to how you want a gun to be. Absolutely my recommendation for someone wanting to get into 2011s but doesn’t want to drop money on an Atlas, Rafferty, Candy Mountain Custom, or SV.
Ironic 80s wraparound eye-pro? can’t ever tell with you Lol. I know where you can score some parachute pants - to complete the deal!! The Jersey diner menu amount of choices that stealth arms offers is inspired and frightening all at once - may have to be the next purchase Great vid as always!!
I just had a thought. What if somebody worked in the P365 mag tech into one of these guns. I love the slim-ness of the 1911. Using that mag profile would get you most of the traditional footprint and the 2011 goodness of a modern 1911 patterned gun.
I replaced my trigger (atlas) and guide rod (Dawson precision toolless) in my prodigy. Both were amazing upgrades (won’t say game changing because everybody says it). Debating if I’m going to pull the trigger on a Cheely grip and infinity internals. I will eventually get it ported either thru monsoon or dcs. I was going to get the platypus as well but wanted a officer style instead which they don’t offer. And now their lead times are 14-16 weeks. I’ll end up getting a staccato cs or a bul armory sas ultra ii. Just need to make a decision and then wait for either to be available 🤦🏾♂️
interested in the P (steel) or C2 (wish they made it in steel frame) but also thinking Platypus Commander.. would like to hard chrome it or DLC rather than the coating. here's where having grip panels or different grip options would be nice. as designed, w the DLC, likely I'm in used P territory. i picked up a Prodigy at my LGS and it was a rattle trap.
Thank you for another great video! I'm starting my competition journey (USPSA) and I've been primarily using your videos to learn about the sport! Not only that, I've been refining my marksmanship skills through your videos as well! So, from one Texan to another, I'd like to give you a big THANK YOU! I would like to ask between the Staccato P and the Bul Armory SAS TAC II in 4.25" (I've watched all your videos on them) which one do you feel would be the best competition pistol? I'm hoping to purchase one of these in the next 10 days assuming that the BA will be available. Thank you again and please keep being you!
Its entirely irrellevant until you start going to matches. Once you go to matches, you'll figure out what divisions you want to shoot in and it might not be limited optics.
@Anthony Garcia I paid an extra 100. When I built my gun online through their website I called them the next day and asked if I could lighten the trigger. I specified that I was not using it as a carry weapon which is accurate. The lighten trigger, I'm told, I'd 3 to 3.5 vs 4 to 4.5.
Such a nice job explaining your opinion from the perspective of different shooters as well as putting relative rankings into context of the larger market. I get to learn about competition shooting and see great shooting footage while not having to hear any political fear mongering. I'm loving the content brother.
I've been looking for a Bul Armory 1911 Government in 45ACP and they seem to be unobtanium right now. I may have to upgrade the one of their more expensive models at this rate.
Strange, there are alot of Bul 1911s in my area. I picked up a used 45acp Magnum research 1911 last month and they had multiple other used one and new ones as-well. FYI magnum research and Bul armory 1911 are more or less the same.
Nice overview. I actually prefer a two piece GI stlye guid rod on a non bull barreled 1911 style pistol for ease of disassembly. It does nothing to detract from reliability. I think if Platypus tweaks a few minor things, they can own this market.
It would be cool if you could get access to a Beretta 92xi and compare it to one of the 2011 pistols since they both have single action triggers and thumb safeties.
Before watching the video - I'm currently using a Rival for competition and saving up for a Staccato XC. I could be persuaded to go Platypus (the Glock mags thing is a plus because I've got a couple Glocks). I've been waiting for a follow up video on it from you.
Does the platypus feel like a block glock in your hand? Which grip would be most comfortable for shorter shooters? Already have a double stack RIA and the grips feels huge compared to my friend’s staccato.
Thoughts on the Kimber double stack 1911 that's coming out at a MSRP of 1499.00 kds9c comes in silver or black. No grip safety. Looks like a bul armory tac and a Wilson had a love child
w 14 week Platypus lead times, it's likely they come out with new features that were not available at the time of ordering. wondering what lead times are for a standard build, no color and if the cerokoting is the main hold up/
If I were looking for a gun of this type I'd consider the Stacatto P the starting point. The Prodigy will need a few more years under it's belt before I'd consider it.
That’s my only issue with it and keeping me from buying 1. I need an OWB with a back strap (lvl2-3) that a QLS fork will mount on. I’m told Staccato holsters don’t work unless it’s light mounted which still requires modification
This was interesting for sure. I think after this, I'm still happy I ordered my Platypus the week before you posted your video. Got in before NRA show, looks like my slide and frame are built. Hope that means the assembly will be happening soon!! Just over 4 weeks in now, was 8 when ordered. I'm going to try it with the stock guide rod, but if it gives me issues that seems to be the only main gripe that I might have to replace. Sounds like I may need to do something to get more grip. Will have to see how it works with my hands and grip. Hoping to try that Double Alpha Max holster. I think it'll work, but I sent them an email to see if they tried it yet. In theory, the adjustable trigger guard and rail interface points should be able to be made to work, at least in my imagination, lol. I do intend to make as many videos as possible with it. I have a few things I want to try out and I've been asked questions already, so I have a list of things to try for other people as well! Definitely looking forward to getting it in and taking it out to my Freedom Farm! Thanks for another great one David!
I'm on week 6, lead time was 6 when I ordered, my order page says its painted but needs final assembly and test fire still. Hope I actually get it next week (Week 7)
@Steaz Someone started talking to me and I hit send before I finished 🤣. Think mine just showed frame done this week. Sounds like I got at least another several weeks. Was hoping to get it before my shooting buddy moves at the end of the month, but he may miss out. Want to compare to his Staccato P. I think these are going to really catch on this year. I'm just hoping Primary Arms released their new dot soon and it stays DPP pattern like they show on the coming soon info. Slide cut for it, so I'm committed to it now 🤣. Should be good for some fun videos tho!! Have a great weekend and good luck on getting yours delivered very soon!!!
Got my order in when lead time was 11-13 weeks. slide and frame are done. I'm willing to wait though. Was going to get a Prodigy, still may one day, but once I saw the platypus and the fact it took cheap, reliable mags I was sold.
@socmonki Interesting, I think the week after my order was in is when the times jumped to 10, then 12 weeks. Maybe they just knocked out a ton of frames at the same time and now working thru next stages. Either way, I'm also willing to wait. Seems everyone happy with the quality, so hope they take the time to do it right and deliver a superb product. Eager to show mine off, but I'll keep being patient, lol. Have a great week!
Just a heads up, you might be using screws that are too long on that prodigy rmr. It looks to me like the mounting plate might be getting pried upward from the screws going past the plate bottom and into the slide.
WTF Big Dad Bod!!?? Why was I unsubscribed?!! RU-vid Suck my Sac. Thanks for the review Humble. Would have never known I was unsubscribed if I wasn’t researching this. I have a Staccato, a Bul Armory because of your older review of it which is an excellent firearm. I’m good on the Springfield though. Think the Platypus is worth purchasing? You haven’t been wrong yet. Good to see ya young man.
Hey! I like guns that look like peanut butter! I’m a 19X fanboy. But I also have a PDP that has as many Walther blue accessories as possible, and that’s my EDC.
I'm 6 weeks into my 6-8 week wait for my platypus. You mentioned holster. I also got a commander slide with the full tactical dust cover. What are some companies that make holsters for it.
Something to remember about the staccato P. The trigger was designed for patrol / duty use. That's why it is 4.5 lbs. Their XC and XL models have much lighter triggers. Those would never be allowed to be carried at an agency.
I understand that and I'm not pointing at the weight - but the quality of the trigger. The only "good" 1911 trigger in the lot is on the Platypus from a cleanliness standpoint.
I think the Platypus use EGW ignition kit. Thats why the trigger quality is good. Staccato has soft trigger. Doesnt mean its good. I install the EGW ignition kit on the Prodigy. That made it feel better than my P and XC. I will be doing the same on both my Staccato.
To clarify at the beginning of the video you use the term “single action only” when the prodigy is advertised as DS so do you mean they are single action capable ?
@thehumblemarksman Platypus is aluminum frame correct?? If thats the case i would have to sort of disagree with you in a sense. I think the reason it feels like it recoils slightly more because the difference in weight of the frames. On the platypus it weighs about the same even though the frame is much lighter which means the platypus has more weight in the slide because the weight has to ho somewhere. That also means theres more weight coming bavk during recoil causing more force being imparted into your hands thus makin it recoil ever so slightly more. But who knows either of us could be right. Guess you could always weigh the frames and the slides and see the differences. Great video!! Do tell what option your speaking of at around a thoussnd $ ?? Im looking at getting one if i can find one cheap enough, but i do have a para ordnance p18 pattern gun bc thats handfitted that i got for a grand with engraving work done on it already thats very similar to these guns and it runs great i love it but it doesnt have the aftermarket support of a 2011 so i wanna get some kind of 2011 or ‘widebody 1911’ as u called it either that or a shadow 2 copy cant decide only shot a cz once so makes it hard to make a choice.
@@TheHumbleMarksman hahah ok whatever you say 😁 how do these compare to a shadow 2 style gun?? Which style do you think recoils the least and tracks the best and is therefore faster??
@@born2beashooterjosh397 recoil sensation is similar to an S2 which also has a rigid impulse due to steel frame. To me a polymer gripped 2011 with 10-12 oz less weight is a much softer shooter than a shadow 2 for that reason
@@TheHumbleMarksman hmm really? That’s interesting to know thanks alot for the info!! Im def gonna have to get me one then to at least try it out for a lil while and seenif i notice a difference the p18 pattern gun i have already shoots i credibly soft bc its so f’n heavy it weighs like 52oz or something like that lol its a hefty beast but i still love it its my favorite pistol to shoot so im hoping ill love a 2011 pattern gun even more
I've saw where you said the 5" Prodigy can be more sluggish than the 4.25" but can the 5" still shoot relatively fast? I've just been trying to decide on which one to grab for myself.
