Stealth VAWT Parts and Prices. Prices change, please go to the website for current available stealth vawt parts and prices.
littleshoptx.com/
Over the last couple years, many people who had watched my ‘Building the Stealth VAWT’ video asked me the question, “How much”? Well, that answer depends on whether you need parts or the whole thing. Unfortunately I haven’t had an accurate answer until now. The first Stealth VAWT was made strictly as a proof of concept experiment. The next two were made as an exact matched pair in order to compare the performance of a WindBlue low wind PMA to a 48 volt Freedom PMA. I used less expensive rivets and bolts than I would have if I was building the things for someone else. Stainless steel fasteners are always preferred over aluminum rivets and plated nuts and bolts. There are also weak spots where I expected eventual failure. I had a good idea of what I needed to do to strengthen those places but chose not to worry about them for various reasons.
Of course now that one VAWT unit has been ordered, I’ve purchased those higher quality fasteners and made those necessary upgrades on my first customer purchased Stealth VAWT. After all, I want anyone who buys my products to have worried free use of my products for many years to come. To borrow a term from Ron Popeil, I’d like you feel comfortable to “set it and forget it”.
Better fasteners are only one aspect of the VAWT upgrades. In my original design, a small tab of aluminum is the only thing holding the blade to the blade mounting ring. Even though I have not seen a blade break free from the blade mounting ring of any of my VAWTs, this is a known weak spot and needed to be addressed before making blades for a turbine being purchased. Now each blade has an eight inch long 1/8 X ½ inch aluminum bracket that I make as reinforcement for that tab.
The third improvement not only adds strength to the blade, but (in my eye) makes it just a bit more aesthetically pleasing. I have added one more bend to the vertical blades. This ¼ inch wide outward bend on the outer edge of the vertical blades should help keep those long edges straight through most any thunderstorm nature might throw at it.
Prices will change eventually, but if you watch this video and are still interested contact me through my website.

I think you do one hell of a good job , it's old school the best way to build anything good !! The way we used to build things , with pride ! The only suggestion I would have would be to build some jigs to speed up the processes a little , especially a measured jigs for blade space when putting brace wire in . Well done.!! :-)

Thank you for your kind words. Eventually I'll build jigs for each component and a storage area to hold them when not in use. But since I've only sold "one" VAWT in four years, I can't justify the cost of materials to build the jigs or spare the storage space. Thanks again for your comment. It helped me start this day with a smile.

KUDO's to you and your skills. I just subscribed and have just started watching your videos. Your VAWT is really beautiful in design and a pleasure to watch it make power. My past career (now retired) was in production sheet metal manufacturing for the HVAC industry. Watching your mfg. video was killing me for all the labor you have in making and assembling your VAWT. In the next couple of days I will review those videos and if you don't mind I may be able to offer some tips to improve your throughput of parts. Keep up the great work.

I like the consept. From one working with thin sheet metal to another. I can see that the corners between the blades an the brackets are a little loose. I woluld tie these down as well. When something first start to move in a storm it doesn't stop. It's a genius way to fabricate these. All the parts makes it stronger using this thin aluminum sheet.

Buying a good VAWT is like buying oats. If you want good fresh premium oats you have to pay a premium price. If you want oats that have already been through the horse, the price is negotiable. Your price for your VAWT is a bargin at $1900. The quality and craftsmanship is outstanding.

The prices have changed a bit since I uploaded this video. My labor cost is the same but materials have gone up a bit. Also the 48/96 volt Freedom II PMA I've shown in this video went from $460 ish dollars up to $632.99. On a positive note, I now offer a choice in blade length. The blades in this video are 36 inches tall, but I now offer a 48 inch blade that extends downward by one foot. This Added blade length puts the generator closer to the center of the turbine which should ease some pressure on the bearings in high winds or storms. The new price for that setup in the video is $2300. The same thing with 48" inch blades will be $2400. I may consider a discount for some good horse fertilizer.

I like your design and I would not change any of the attributes. I could improve the effort that it takes to complete the turbine. This difference would make a very significant difference on your cost vs profit bottom line. keep up the great work you have got a nice product that works .

I love your idea and work. I'm trying to figure out if one of these would work for me (I live in Jacksonville, FL. We are about 35 or so miles from the Atlantic Ocean) and we're essentially trying to get an electrical system set up "just in case". We've been through a few hurricanes, where we are located... the real pain is being without power. We're not in a flood zone - far enough away from the ocean that any potential water damage would come from a tree falling on the house and rain getting in, rather than from lakes/rivers, or ocean water flooding. So how much power would the Stealth VAWT with this turbine you have on this video produce on average? We have decent wind here.
@LittleshopintexasSV
@LittleshopintexasSV 7 лет назад
I use one stealth vawt and two 100 watt solar panels to keep a few 12 volt batteries charged. The batteries run an inverter which can power essential devices for several hours at a time. The amount of time you get out of your batteries depends on the number and capacity of the batteries and the power draw of the devices you'll need to run. If you're looking for ways to have some power when a grid power interruption occurs, a small solar and wind combination system might be all you need. To go off-grid or to run air-conditioning for extended periods of time would require much more power production to keep up with the demand. Unfortunately I don't have access to the equipment needed to measure power output to wind speed in a consistent way. Eventually I plan to purchase wind speed and power output gauges that can record that information when I'm not looking. It would also be a great help if I had access to a wind tunnel for a couple hours. Sorry I can't share more helpful information.

Yes. Eventually I plan to offer printable plans on my website. Unfortunately the software I need to do that is quite expensive. Even something like Googles Sketchup Pro cost $695. I was planning to buy the software from my earnings running AdSense on my website, but no ads have shown since my account was approved in Sept of 2016. No ads, no income and no money for the software. I've received $104 dollars in contributions through the contributions page of my website. That money will be used to buy the program once I have enough to make the purchase. I'll also need to upgrade the graphics card on my computer, but that's a smaller investment. I am keeping track of the folks who donate so they'll be the first to know once the plans are available.

Nice design! I think I would mount the vane spacing wire out towards the end of the vane for overall turbine stability.
@LittleshopintexasSV
@LittleshopintexasSV 4 года назад
My first prototype had the spacing wire near the tips of the blades. I had a few issues with that. Because of the angles at the tips of the blades, it was difficult to mount the wire accurately in an easy fashion. And if I'm ever going to sale these turbines as a kit, they will need to be fairly easy to assemble. Also the materials of the blades are fairly thin, so I added a brace to strengthen the blades at their weakest point. The brace is bolted onto the blade at one end by the wire keeper. This new mounting position puts the wire keeper clamps perpendicular to each other which allows me to use a heavier stainless steel wire that will be easily installed by those who would purchase the kit.

Sorry. I'm not able to produce turbines at this time. Missouri Wind and Solar doesn't have any Freedom II's in stock. I'm also involved in repairing the walls of my building so I can lease the space. Once the repairs are finished and I have a renter, I'll then have some time and money to hang around the shop and tinker. Hopefully MWS will have the Freedom II back in stock as well.

Would Aluminum top & bottom rings work fixing with pop rivets? much simpler & cheaper.
@LittleshopintexasSV
@LittleshopintexasSV 5 лет назад
My very first vawt design used aluminum upper and lower mounting rings. it also had to have a lot of structure to hold those rings in place. In the end the weight of the turbine was great enough to prevent light wind from spinning the turbine. With my current design the total weight of the turbine is around 12 lb. The first one with the rings weighed much more than that.

Wow, an absolute work of art and function, congratulations, excellent product, lots of pride and passion building it. Only one thing you didn't say how many watts you will be getting from this turbine
@LittleshopintexasSV
@LittleshopintexasSV 3 года назад
That's the problem with creating energy from wind. The amount of energy created is dependent on how much wind you receive at your location and the type of generator the turbine is driving. This particular setup is using a 48/96 volt Freedom II PMA. With this alternator I would expect currents between 64 and 300 watts in wind speeds between 8 and 20 MPH. Its not a huge amount of power, but it will charge batteries. You shouldn't expect to make enough power from a single micro turbine to run a house unless your in a very windy location. I think of wind power as a backup to solar panels for those days when storms roll in and block the sun, or as a windy night battery charger.

As before excellant build, I would love one, have forwarded videos to several of my neighbors, as we have a bunch who are totally off grid. Would love to have one but it is to uncertain as to how much power I would reach here in the mountains, $2500 for an experiment is not for this 60+ disabled vet. I just want to encourage you as I think you have a great product. Have you thought of powder coating the vanes? You have enough tools to fab a oven and all or check with a local powder coat-or might be able to trade. There are several forums out on the net you might be able to capture some supporters and farm out a lot of the build. Just thinking out loud as your product seems like a very worthwhile build Thumbs way up

great info on this video. what is the purpose of the double output?? please let me know how to order.
@LittleshopintexasSV
@LittleshopintexasSV 6 лет назад
The Freedom II has two outputs because it has two PMAs built into one aluminum body. Each output goes to its own rectifier and it's at that point you have a choice to connect the two outputs in series or parallel to your charge controller. Since my VAWT cannot develop as high an RPM as a horizontal turbine of comparable size, I like running my Freedom II in the series configuration in order to double the turbines output voltage to the charge controller. If you want one, tell me exactly what you need, send me the money and I'll get started on building it for you right away. I don't have any back-stock on any of the parts. I'll have to order the materials after the payment has been received before the work can start. Give me 8 to 10 weeks time to manufacturer everything. I can manufacture four or five in nearly the same amount of time. If you're considering ordering more than one, cost per unit will come down because of discounts received when ordering larger quantities of materials. Hey, thanks for asking. Have a great day.

@vazwan
@vazwan 7 лет назад
can you make a model that returning blades not to oppose wind ?
@LittleshopintexasSV
@LittleshopintexasSV 7 лет назад
The short answer is No.... But, blades or sets of blades can be designed to cut back into the wind with less drag than the blade or blades that are in the angle of attack. If this turbine had fewer blades the angle and shape of the blades would need to be much different. But I use twelve blades on this turbine for a reason. Imagine you are the wind and look at this turbine from that perspective. You will see three blades that will cause drag and four blades in the attack position. So that's four blades catching wind compared to three blades that are not. Of course if you also look at wind like a fluid you will realize after the wind hits the first of the three blades causing drag, the wind flow tends to slip around that side of the turbine without causing additional drag on the other to blades.
@hermandejong4309
@hermandejong4309 6 лет назад
The nice thing about this turbine is that it has only one moving object and the whole rotor is composed of parts that basically don't move with respect to each other. Making the blades hinge or rotate in their socket gives wear and makes it complicated so unreliable and you don't want that for a power source.

I’m really interested in a fully assembled, ready to run unit, with that stand, and blades painted a bright white. What is today’s price for a beauty like that? $2500? I would drive from Illinois to pick it up.
@LittleshopintexasSV
@LittleshopintexasSV 5 лет назад
Yes, $2500 would buy you a Stealth VAWT with the works. Turbine blades and pole mount bracket painted bright white, with a stand and everything else in between just like the video. However there is a problem with the generator. Missouri Wind and Solar doesn't have anymore 48/96 volt Freedom II's and I don't know when or if they're going to restock. Another issue is, they have decided to drill holes in the shaft for set screws on each side of a keyway. This removal of material has weakened the shaft to a point that I can't trust it not to bend or break in high wind. Since they are the only contractor for that generator, I can't find it anywhere else. There may be other generators of equal capability but none that I have any experience with.

Hi there, Love your videos! Taking 3 hours to build each fin seems crazy and increases the cost so much when 6 inch pcv is so much cheaper and readily available. I like the direct drive aspect of the design but there is much pressure on that generator shaft. Is the gen water proof? That lift washer will also let water in won't it?
@LittleshopintexasSV
@LittleshopintexasSV 6 лет назад
Did you mean pvc? PCV is a valve on some cars. PVC may be simple and cheap to use, but in a few years time in Texas weather will become brittle and shatter. I can guarantee my turbines against becoming brittle and shattering for life, under all natural conditions. And yes the Freedom 2, like most other PMAs made to be used as wind turbine generators has weatherproof coatings over the entire stator core. The magnetic rotor has no electronic parts to worry about. But for the most part, water doesn't get into the generator with my turbine design. While water is not an issue with the PMA I'm using, airflow is. The stator core can become hot and melt the plastic insulation of the copper coils if there is no airflow. It's important to keep the stator core cool during high wind or constant use.
@murrayrunge5602
@murrayrunge5602 6 лет назад
yes i was wondering why you used steel, it is likely best, especially in harsh conditions. Here in Canada we are charged 14 cents a Kwh but with basic charges and added tax, it works out to 20 cents a Kw hour. This is getting more expensive every year so i looking for alternatives. Battery bank and solar panels and/or wind turbines seem to be very expensive so I am investigating and ran across your video. Thanks for price list. But i missed the output of this turbine and if it needs small voltage to start as some seem to need when going from no wind to generating power. I think knowing how long it will take to pay for itself is an important thing to know. 500 KWh savings per month is 100, so in a year that is 1200., about 16.5 KWh per day. I don't think that is an unrealistic goal to start with. Thanks
@hermandejong4309
@hermandejong4309 6 лет назад
When rotating water is spinned off at both levels so not much water will get underneath. if you mean 6" pipe (cut in half) that is a lot heavier and you can't adjust anything like where to make a bend and how large. I agree that it is not for large volumes and will need redesign. it might be possible to buy ready coated aluminum with protective film and I think it is possible to make the blade of a single piece by folding, to avoid the riveting but it get's even more complicated. The bending takes time but it is essential. I would have a shot at avoiding the top and bottom V-sape and make a straight bracket at about 1/5 and 4/5. He requires an extra bracket for strength anyway. (but it ruins the esthetics of the design cause this looks pretty cool)
@gravelydon7072
@gravelydon7072 5 лет назад
@@LittleshopintexasSV Couldn't just you add a set of vanes under the lower disc to aid in the cooling. In fact, if done correctly, they could add some thrust on the rotor while doing so. Something along the lines of what is used on an alternator for producing commercial quality power.
@LittleshopintexasSV
@LittleshopintexasSV 5 лет назад
If a cooling fan is required I would probably put it below the Freedom II and draw the out the bottom. The design of the Freedom II is different from most other PMG's on the market. It allows air to flow through, so it hasn't been an issue for me even in our 107 degree Texas summer days.

If I need me to make the center tube/shaft that mounts to your motor, I'll need to take measurements of the diameter of the input shaft of the motor, shaft length, thread pitch, length of the threads, and whether or not the shaft has a taper. It will be an additional $175.00 if I make the center tube/shaft, bringing the total cost to $1200.00 for the turbine without the motor.

I don't know. I don't make the generators, I just build these small vertical home power turbines.

If you plan to make any amount of these, wouldn't it be better to buy a spray gun and small compressor???

Just to be picky - the generator is a PMG - not PMA. What's the diff? PMA is an alternator generates AC. while a PMG generates DC current.
@LittleshopintexasSV
@LittleshopintexasSV 6 лет назад
I've heard them called both. But since there is no internal rectifier, power coming out of the Freedom II is alternating current. Rectifiers are used to convert the AC into DC near to the charge controller and batteries. But you can call it what you like.

@@LittleshopintexasSV That is a common complaint I have all the time. DC output is generator while AC output is alternator. Many so called alternators aren't. And many alternators use brushes ( which used to be one of the defining ways to tell ) in them. And those that don't often use diodes that produce DC before producing AC.

Yes, and I hope to do that someday, but I'll need an oven to bake the coating onto the blades.

Eventually when I have a little back-stock I'll get some ads in more places, but for now I can't start to build one unless a buyer prepays for the materials... All profits I make from the sell of these things will go back into buying materials and building an inventor (at least for a while). Unfortunately after two years of waiting, the one in this video is the first one I've sold.

I buy fresh turmeric and garlic at my local farmers market and add them to just about everything I eat. I appreciate your concern. I'm not too worried about it though, it's a fatty tumor (not cancerous). However it is painful at times and makes it hard to find shirts that fit.

@@LittleshopintexasSV Well get on the internet and order some of that there Olive oil with carbon 60. No one is to know about it and I found out about it. I want to get some myself but cannot at this time. Rats given carbon sixty would not become I'll and die when they were poisoned and then radiated. Side effect. Made the rats given it live longer than their two year life span. They were trying to find the leathal dose of it but could not. So they then ran those other tests. They then killed them all. Cut them open and their insides were in perfect condition. Living longer than you think you are to is the only side effect. There is even a 72 year old man taking it and is able to play tennis.

Back when I could afford insurance I visited two different specialist for my shoulder. Both said, because they would need to cut the muscles that crisscross over the joint to allow removal of the tumor, mobility of my shoulder after surgery would be limited. I decided to live with pain and keep the mobility.
