That's like the worst of both worlds though. You get none of the performance and all the drawbacks. Also I feel like docking the Deck is a pure downgrade (but I play mainly PC games, not console ports) just because you're letting go of a best controller known to mankind.
For new dock users, set resolution to 1080 in display settings,( has to be docked) and set every game you're gonna play to fsr(I prefer fsr 3, mess with it to your liking. also don't do this if the game has fsr built in, also also nearest is best for pixelated games) and don't worry about changing it back when you undock it. In hand held mode fsr doesn't activate if a game is hitting 720p or above, it defaults to linear when it can't use fsr. But docked and set to 1080p it will use fsr at 720p to reach 1080, so tweak in game for games to run best in hand held mode and just let fsr handle tv upscaling, unless you want to tinker for that resolution too.
Another really big option to consider within the same frame as the mini dock are just type C hubs. I imagine most if not all work with the deck and they have become super cheap while offering the same options as the official dock. If you want to prop your steamdeck up, then you should look into a case with an inbuilt kick stand. The total is going to come closer to a dock but you'll be getting added on the go functionality.
I have a USB A to HDMI adapter and it works perfectly fine on my Surface Go 2 but using the same USB C to USB A adapter all it dose is say USB HDMI audio and then none of the sound comes out of the speakers unless I unplug it.
He MUST be balding hella bad by now, not only the toques but because of the toques xD He use dto not wear it or as much he did have hair back in the day at least :P
I actually didn't dock my deck for several months and thought it was a silly thing since I also have a desktop gaming pc. But then started playing with it docked and for some reason something changed for me. I really do use it like a console, I'm more likely to watch intros and cutscenes and pay attention to dialogue; I've started playing other games that I wouldn't have before; and I've even added shortcuts to streaming services so that it even now completely replaces my firetv stick. I can't explain why this changed things for me, but it has.
I almost exclusively use my Steam Deck docked and I love it. I've been playing Elden Ring on it lately and it's beautiful. I'm sure that it can get loads better, but as someone without other consoles or gaming PCs, it's great. That said, the dock sometimes fails to display and it can be really frustrating.
If you play mainly docked perhaps a different device would be of more use to you. I know the Deck is very cheap but it's a bit like buying a boat and never getting it out of the garage.
As someone who wants to get a CRT TV from the late 70s in order to play games for the simple fact of novelty, this is one of the gaming moments of all time
Thanks for featuring us Kevin! You look so cool wearing the XR Glasses over the beanie. 😎 We strive to deliver the best XR gaming experience - that's why we worked with HARMAN on the audio system and put a lot of effort on the ergonomic design and making the display the best it can be (including accurate color calibration, brightness, and a pixel-free PPD). We made the Mobile Dock with the Switch in mind so that users can have an even better experience on this already-portable console - and it's literally just plug and play. 🤩 So glad you're liking VITURE One!
How's the jsaux one holding up? On Amazon if you switch the reviews to recent like half the people are saying there's is not working after a few months anymore. I was going to pick one up because they're so cheap but if it's just going to fry on me after a couple months I might go with the official dock. But I would love that display port to run on a spare monitor I have so I have a backup PC but ultimately I'll probably just end up using it on a TV. But if anybody else bought the jsaux one lets me know how it's holding up!
My Deck comes soon, and I'm still unconvinced about getting a dock. I think I'll test drive it, and if I find myself wanting to play on TV or with my wife, probably going for the JSAUX one.
This was a great video! I checked out the glasses and really love the idea because my main issue with my Switch is for some games I feel like i'd have to be 2 inches from my tv screen to notice everything so I really love this alternative that still makes everything bigger without me having to get a much bigger tv screen lol. Also the code was awesome, thank you!
Thanks again for all your support! Yes, we strive to be the best XR gaming experience - you won't be disappointed! Please feel free to join our Discord community and see how people are loving our XR Glasses (we can't share links here, but it's listed on our channel profile an at the bottom of our site).
I have a question, when the steam deck is docked and at full charge, does the dock passthrough power straight to the system bypassing the battery to prevent wear? That's my only concern with using it docked often if it degrades the battery faster
I know its a bit late but I have an answer: The deck has some pretty advanced battery protection systems, and one of them is the fact that when above %90 charge, all power from chargers or docks is just pushed directly to the console itself No battery passthrough, and no wear. Valve made this thing so if you wanted you could leave it plugged in %100 of the time
if we had usb c directly on the tv we wouldn't need a dock at all. I have a usb A to hdmi and it no work even with a usb c to usb a adapter :( i tested it on my surface go and it worked just fine.
Hey ZG, VITURE One XR Glasses have built-in dials above each lens that allow near-sighted users to adjustment the display to match their vision prescription. We also offer prescription lens frames for far-sighted users or those with other vision issues. We strive to offer the best XR experience to all the gamers and won't let a little myopia get in your way. 😎 Thanks so much for your interest!
If you have a plasma like i do it is perfect and the image is impeccable. I have an 06 Panasonic in my gaming room for old consoles and man its worth it.
Did you even bother testing the HDMI for specs and USB ports for transfer speeds? Most docs, hubs, and dongles are lying about specs and I’m blown away that you didn’t’ test or show us any test results….. Pretty disappointed.
The Steam dock really is not very expensive vs the after market docks when you factor in you’re getting an ac adapter with it. And btw those glasses that are clearly a commercial are definitely silly.
Word of warning, neither genki docks charge the Deck fast enough. You'll get a warning that it will slow charge your deck meaning the battery will drain while docked... No idea why genki or anyone else promote it to use with the deck - it simply doesn't work.
As nice as a dock is, I have a simple dongle that works great, personally I use it with Steam Link instead. This as my WiFi is stable enough for it and the streamed image is surprisingly clean and low latency. So I tend to play on the TV or even my desktop with the Deck connected over WiFi, if needed with a long charger too. Advantage being bumping the connector not causing issues and not being tethered to the screen and if on battery not at all. And it lets me use whichever headphones/speaker and I think microphone I want to use, which is usually the remote output but internal input.
Can I use a dock without having a screen. I don’t mind the small screen. I just need to hook up a keyboard and mouse. (I don’t have money for a laptop due to current issues)
does anyone know if you can safely (and effectively) use a nintendo usb charger with a Jsaux dock on your steam deck? I accidentally collected 2 nintendo chargers and it would be nice to just leave one plugged in near my TV next for both of the switch and a jsaux dock to swap back and forth. I'm less concerned about how effective it is because even if the power draw in docked is more like the switch, i assume it would drain very slowwwwly when actually firing on all cylinders. But it's my understanding that when you dock the deck, it uses the same power, unlike the switch
I’ve been using the JSAUX Dock since $90 was a hard price to swallow. It’s fine if you’re okay with sharing your charger with it, however it has an annoying problem where sound frequently crackles/cuts out for 1-2 seconds. It doesn’t have a consistent pattern of how frequently it happens, but whenever I’ve been playing a game for maybe an hour or two, this will happen at least 3-4 times. And I should also note that I’ve tried this with multiple monitors, speakers, and HDMI cables, and I’m convinced it’s the dock that causes these audio crackles.
The genki docks don't really offer enough power imo. Jsaux actually now offers a similar (albeit noticeably larger) one that offers 45w that I keep in my steamdeck case's charger cubby instead of the regular charger.
VITURE One XR Glasses' 1080p virtual display is like gaming on a 120" TV sitting 3m away from you - though the image is right there in front of your eyes, it appears farther so you never feel like you're too close! If we have to choose between the Steam Deck's 7", 800p screen or 120" in 1080p, we're picking VITURE One any day. 😎
Looks like we can't share links in the comments, but we hope Kevin can update the link soon. Please feel free to click on our profile and find more information about us. Thanks so much for your interest!
I ended up just going directly to the website then finding the glasses and even though the link doesn't work at the moment, at the end when you are checking out there's a box for a discount code and his name as the code is still good!
If a V2 of the Steam Deck is on the go, I want to saw a stronger Dock expérience. Not that the actual dock expérience is bad, but you can saw than it's not optimise, like a Nintendo Switch. One idea than can be good is to have 2 dock set up, one for TV user like a Switch and a other for Monitor user, to be more like a tradition PC. Steam Deck can do that, but imo it's not optmise.
Don't be foolish and get that Jsaux dock. The extra charger you get with the official Steam Deck Dock for $20 more is totally worth it. You can have one charger on the dock always connected and keep the other in your storage case for when on-the-go. I feel like the only reason Keven is pushing the Jsaux one is because he has affiliate links for Amazon and not Valve/Steam.
2:20 What future upgrade abilities. It's a fucking glorified USB hub connected to a PC. It will work as it does now, with almost every random USB hub that is connected to it.
Jsaux is trash so many issues. It stops games from updating (not sure how), it sometimes doesn't allow you to turn the deck on or it pretends its linked to a screen when it isnt lets say for just charging. I could go on with issues.
Regarding the genki and that ridiculous looking set up: Bluetooth controllers my guy. Leave the steam deck near the dock and use a controller that doesn't require a port
Xbox button + A button PS button + Cross button Switch home button + B button Edit: Should also add that holding the controller's main button (Xbox/PS/Switch Home) or the Steam button on the Deck will show a shortcut guide of controller combinations
I find docks to be useless. Why? Because I'm using DeckMate attachment and it makes it so deck doesn't fit into the Dock that's otherwise profiled to exactly match Deck's bottom surface. The good part is, every dock is just a bog standard USB-C hub.
6:09 The cheaper option would be an android phone with good gyroscopics, a good phone VR headset, and something like RiftCat connected to your pc. You will get the same experience even with Steam Deck. Sad thing is it's like a poor connection at times like you're cloud gaming even with a USB connection. I've beaten a few games with this, but that one little flaw can ruin it's reliability as very good as the software and app is. It's way easier than spending hundreds of dollars though if you have the income to throw at it I say get the glasses. It's a very comfortable experience, especially lying down.
Hi Vanssz, we ship internationally to 29 countries for a flat rate of $25 USD (including many countries in Europe). We can't share links here, but our full shipping policies are available on our website.
Hey XK, thank you so much for your feedback! Would you mind share a bit more details about your experience as we have received a lot of positive feedback about our website, so would like to find out if there is any bug~~ Could you please let us know. the page you are viewing, the device and browser you are using and your location? Thank you!
@@VITURE using a macbook pro 2018, Google Chrome latest version. When I open the store page, the CPU shoots up very high along with the temps. At times, there will be a crash too for the webpage and it would require to exit or refresh the page. It's probably less of an issue on a higher rig gaming PC or so.
@@gamelord12 baked in or not. It's a simple upscaler and a pretty fucking useless one at that. It looks like complete garbage on a bigger screen. Playing AAA games on a docked Steam Deck is just not a great experience. Just get a gaming laptop or decent gaming PC.
Hey Matthew, we launched our Kickstarter campaign last year and broke the record under the AR/VR category.
