I use my steam deck a lot so it really was a no brainer upgrade. Selling my old one to help dampen the cost. The screen is so much better when you see them side by side.
That's airpods comment around 6min is EXACTLY what i wanted to hear lol wow thanks! Because i had the exact same prob when out on the go, inhibiting me from hearing the audio discretely as it would cut out . I am so surprised that someone mentioned this, thanks again!
thought it would be a fantastic surprise for my wife, but truth be told, I can't seem to put the Steam Deck down myself. It's become an absolute game-changer. The portability, combined with the impressive performance, has me hooked. I find myself opting for the Steam Deck even when my gaming desktop is right there, silently waiting for some action. It's like rediscovering the joy of gaming all over again!
Thank you for sharing your experience John, honestly it is very similar to mine. Even having access to a high-end PC, and current GEN consoles, a lot of times I will just put something light on the TV and play my steam deck
Many people undersell the importance of Battery life of these handheld devices, it's such a game changer and now the steam deck old has more battery life and a better screen. I've never look at my rog ally and though wow that was a good screen anymore ever since i got the steam deck old. And also most people who own the steam deck are people who already have another gaming capable pc and steam remote play are just fantastic for time when you need a lot of power, it's latency is way better than the ps portal. And valve has not increase the price or add more difficulty on repairing the device. That is simply amazing.
That’s funny you mentioned that Victor, it was just delivered today. I don’t think it’s available for public yet, but I did receive a unit and it looks awesome thus far.
Note on the megahertz versus megatransfers thing. It's the same number on the store page it's directly comparable. It means the same thing in advertising, megatransfers are just a more accurate term for memory in general. As DDR memory clocks at half the megatransfer speed (RAM manufacturers already account for this in their memory speeds meaning they effectively double the actual frequency to get their number) That being said, they are in practice interchangeable. I mean DDR memory clocks are already usually doubled from what they claim anyway (DDR stands for Double Data rate) So actually all of the memory you see and use are actually technically half the speed they claim DDR can just do two operations, one on the rising edge of the frequency and one on the falling edge. 1600 MT/"MHz" RAM for instance actually has a frequency of 800mhz
Also that 1000 nits is not accurate, That is the peak brightness for HDR content, the display actually caps out for SDR at 600 nits, which is where you will be most of the time.
I have yet to open my 512 GB OLED. I've been hearing issues with the latest Stable channel update (v 3.5.7 as of this comment), including while docked and I have the official dock. I wonder when I can use mine.
Personally I think the biggest console refresh was in the 8th gen when the PS4 and Xbox one got more powerful along the way , that normally does not happen the way it did
I’m taking a bit of a different approach. The old deck will be used for my TV which I do game a lot on and the OLED will be my new portable powerhouse. My gaming laptop (16 DDR4 RAM, RTX 2060, i7-9750) will just become my work laptop so I can have it last longer. I hope my choices are good ones 😅
What's awesome is you can use remote play from a PC to your SD. Also there's videos out there showing you can use ps5 remote play as well. Get out of here ps portal.
Dude, what a handheld collection you have! I fell in love with handheld gaming when I was 10yo with the Game Gear. The Steam Deck OLED is everything I want in a gaming device. Screen, battery, controls and software are perfect for me. Thank you Lord Gabe for making this refresh! I hated the backlight bleed on my LCD!
As someone who does a lot of flying for work, the extra battery life has let me get away from carrying a battery bank for domestic flights. That is so danged nice. Plus being lighter and cooler makes a massive difference for comfort. On paper it may not seem like very much but my old arthritic hands definitely appreciate the handling changes. Super glad that I upgraded, although if I didn’t fly so often it would have been a much tougher decision. No regrets that I spent the money though, love this thing.
Been thinking about purchasing a handheld and the vids answered the question I was thinking about putting to you(which one) for a wile...! Thanks for sharing Keven... "👍"...
Here is your wifi fix Try pausing the download and using the following commands in the steam console (openable with steam://open/console in web browser): @nClientDownloadEnableHTTP2PlatformLin ux 0 @DownloadRatelmprovementToAddAnother Connection 1.0 The first command disables HTTP 2. For some reason it causes download slowdowns (for me, atleast). The other one makes steam connect to lots more servers (up to 10) which can improve download speeds. You can then use the command download_sources to see various stats. It may also be an IO bottleneck, in which case trying other filesystems and devices can help. If downloading to an SSD, it can also be lack of TRIM:ing, which isn't enabled by default on Linux, but is on Windows.
@@GamerHeavenOfficial Selling is a good idea, (especially for me) as Xmas is coming up lol, it'll reduce the cost of the new model and is a good upgrade.
@@EyeNVNo1 Those are also viable options and good handhelds, have been looking around but since i can sell my deck and upgrade (for a bit less off the price), seems like a logical idea.
@@Mark-mu4pj that’s what I did. I sold my 64gb steam deck and a spare set of index controllers I had laying around. The Ally is at Best Buy right now, open box for $503. What these RU-vidrs won’t talk about is the price to performance ratio between a $500 steam deck vs a $500 Rog ally. I might just create a RU-vid channel, I’m tired of seeing the same narratives. Some of these channels don’t come off as unbiased at all, for whatever reason
I bought both Limited Edition and Glossy. I don't get it, the screen really really really looks the same. Colors aren't more vibrant in the glossy one. It is not brighter. It is a tiny bit sharper, I give you that, but not at the same level people compare with 3rd party matte screens protectors. Maybe BOE screen gets closer to the etched glass than Samsung's and this reduces the problems some people reported. I have both in front of me and with all lights off, while searching for differences, I cannot see any. I had a glossy LCD, now I have a matte OLED(returning glossy oled) and matte is much, MUCH better in bright environments, but glossy is almost-indistinguishable-better in complete darkness.
Hello anyone. This I comment is underrated but I have the gamesir G7 SE and they recently released an update to have 1000 Hz and after updating my controller is no longer recognized by their software and it turns on and off within 2 over and over. I don’t know what to do any possible solutions would be appreciated
Steam Deck is my 1st gaming PC. I upgraded to the OLED due to the battery. Love this device. Playing Spiderman and the battery for sure has improved by an hour.
