9:43 My Steam Input config. Uses a full keyboard/mouse-based config as it doesn't handle mixed input well. Left Joystick as WASD D-Pad with Analog Emulation actually works surprisingly well here.
Thanks for the upload. I'm going to try this control scheme some time soon. I've also heard flick stick is very useful, but im not sure what that even is. Do you have any recommendations for flick stick as well?
Great question. Look up the video "Introducing Flick Stick" by the creator of it himself, Jibb Smart. I think Flick Stick (FS) is a great "workaround" for improving shooter control on existing conventional controllers, like the PS4/PS5 Dualshock that FS was originally designed for. However, the general consensus among experienced trackpad users who have tried both, including myself, is that trackpad-turning is still superior. Both FS and trackpad let you do large turns quickly, but doing many small adjustments is easier with a trackpad and *harder* with FS. Since the trackpad still allows some vertical control, it is easier to aim up and down and re-center without "ratcheting". FS requires gyro motion control to do *any* vertical look. This is fine with a regular controller, but when your controller is the Deck, which is way bulkier (I mean, it's an entire PC in your hands) and also requires you to move your screen, FS becomes much more awkward and unergonomic compared to using trackpad-look. As you can see above, with the trackpad I barely have to move the Deck, and can use the gyro extremely subtly. In fact, since I've gotten better with the trackpad, I found I could turn gyro completely off and still do pretty decently with trackpad-aiming alone. I definitely couldn't pull that off using stick-only controls (no gyro or aim assist). Finally FS is quite specialized. For example, if you play any shooters that also let you snipe long-range or drive vehicles, you will need to some way to switch back and forth between regular stick turning. Whereas trackpad-turning works great across *all* these cases. If you still prefer stick-turning, instead of FS, you may find it better to use regular stick turning, but increase the sensitivity. For example, I think this Steam Input right joystick setup works well with gyro: Joystick As Mouse - Lower vertical scale (to preference but 50% is a good start) - Inner and Outer Deadzone as low as possible without getting drift (to maximize the analog range of the stick) - Relaxed or Wide curve - Significantly increase sensitivity Something like this should let you make fast large turns, but also nudge the stick to make small adjustments, while gyro takes care precise aim. My Borderlands 3 video hopefully demonstrates this: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-WOeVvqLJ4v0.html
Thanks, I should! My problem is I am constantly changing them because I am always learning and trying new things, lol, but I will start trying to share more configs under an easily identifiable name. If I do this I will try to share a video on it!
