Very enjoyable Harry, with interesting historical (& rather grim) details, beautiful photography and editing of working machinery. Love your cat signing off.

I have a wonderful photograph of my grandfather as a small child in his family's farmyard, about 1910, when the local steam threshing machine made its visit to their place. About 20 men and their dogs were required to operate the machinery and deal with the output. Everybody had a job in those days, which are really not so long ago! Next weekend is the annual Steam Fest here in Tasmania where these wonderful old machines will be giving working demonstrations for modern folks who imagine food is made in factories, and straw grows in big round bales wrapped in string.

Its great to see the old machines still working, how many of todays machines will still be working after 100 years, not many I wager. This machine will still be working in another 100 years with a bit of TLC

I really enjoy your travels. We have lots of steam and old iron engine shows here in the U.S. but no green work working events like you have in the U.K. Please keep the videos coming. Alan

Wonderful. We still have a cane press for sugar cane or sorghum. Love the processes of making syrup from cane

As a young boy I saw these being used, and actually helped (or hindered lol) on occasion. Did you know they are called thrashing drums (because of the sound they make) Also in the 70s I worked at Marshalls for a few months. Being around these machines when young made you careful, not like the coddled youth of today.

Very interesting Harry. Grandad used to tell stories about threshing with donkeys and flails.I don't know how they did it

Lovely engine. Like the portables as not very common and different. Why the wood firing?

Really nice Harry! Thanks for sharing this...steam tractors & locomotives are ALWAYS inspiring! John Fithian-Franks is probably right about these machines...I wouldn't want to have to thresh wheat the way Frank B spoke of...a side thought...Jesus & disciples rubbed it between their hands on the sabbath and the pharisees got steamed up at them.

the belt is twisted because you need the two drums turning in the same direction
