On the weekend of Saturday 28 May and Sunday 29 May 2022, Steamrail Victoria ran shuttles out of Ballarat, Victoria for the Ballarat Heritage Weekend. As per previous years, the shuttles operated from Ballarat to Lal Lal block point on the line to Geelong.
The train operated in push-pull mode with branch line mixed traffic locomotive K100 (K153 modified to look like a first series K) leading up the Warrenheip Bank, a heavy 1 in 52 grade (or 2% grade) for three miles facing all up trains. Victoria's oldest operating steam locomotive Y112 was at the Ballarat end of the train.
This video features the shuttles on Sunday 29 May at various lineside locations between Ballarat Station and Lal Lal, including footage of K100 attacking the grade in fine style.
