Personally, I buy the games I want on Steam and and take the free ones from Epic, then adding them as a non Steam game on the Steam Launcher so that all my games are in one place. Simple as that

Steam is so much better. No internet? No problem. Play your games in No special mode. Epic games probably hired the same crew from rockstar to develop their launcher just saying

How do you get offline mode in steam?
@blueridgeocean
@blueridgeocean 2 года назад
@@BrainPermaDeD Well as I figured the link was deleted. Search: offline mode - steam support and that will have all of the information you need. Pretty much just makesure you are always signed in and remember my credentials turned on, makesure your game files are on your pc aswell. And you are good If you are signed out / failed password before entering offline mode you will have a higher chance of not being able to play offline. If that's the case connect your phone to your pc to use the phones internet login and disconnect your phone internet and remember to turn off auto updates Another thing to remember is that once you do have internet you will sometimes be forced to login, if you have steam as a startup when powered on then you will have to login or you won't be able to go offline the next time (most likely anyways) Epic though not so cut and dry

Steam does give full games away to keep forever ... a couple that I took advantage of that I can remember were Black Desert Online & Company of Heroes 2. Not as frequently as Epic but, to say that Steam only makes games available to play for free for limited time periods as opposed to giving them away for free to keep would be incorrect. With respect to the Steam Discovery queue, you can also modify filter keywords to include or exclude titles that have those keywords associated with them. If you want to exclude all RPG's for instance, update your filters to remove that keyword for games so they don't show up in your Discovery Queue. I find this very useful for narrowing down what I''m interested in seeing in my Discovery queue. You mentioned Steamdeck but, didn't elaborate. Steamdeck is basically Valve's, developed from the ground up, handheld PC that gives you full access to your Steam library of games to play on the Steamdeck. You can connect peripherals (mouse, keyboard etc) via the USB connection and connect a monitor via the PC Display Port and play games that way. Bluetooth and WiFi connectivity (no Ethernet port on the Steamdeck itself). There is also a Dock that provides more USB connections, an Ethernet connection and Display port and HDMI connectivity. Not sure if Epic has something similar but, Steam also allows you to share your game library with your family members and guests. You can authorize up to 10 devices and 5 accounts to play games from you library. I had an Epic account at one point but, the "decent" games that they gave away, in my opinion, were few and far between. Epic is good for the game developers because they get to keep more of the money from the sales of their games which the purchasers of their games never see as a discounted price. Can't blame them really. They sign exclusive one year deals with Epic and as soon as they are no longer restricted in the distribution of their products they run right back to Steam to make them available their to a much larger player base. In my mind, Steam has a lot more to offer the gaming community than Epic will anytime soon. Hope this was useful :)

Steam took my cherry with online distribution, but the advantages of Epic Games are getting harder to ignore. While Steam does have a larger library of gamees, not only are the prices usually much cheaper for the same game/DLC on Epic due to Steam taking a larger cut from the developers (like the video said, Epic Games take 12%, which is a ratio that can be lowered even further if the developer uses Epic Games' own Unreal Engine, whereas Steam takes up to 30%), but the fact that Epic gives away free games.. sometimes AAA titles .... for free....... for... FREE... is just a game changer (pun not intended, but appreciated) for someone who can't spend a fortune on games. I still use Steam because of all the games I have bought since forever and their modding community is admittedly superb, but Epic has quickly become a serious contender.

Truth be told, if you are a publisher and you know you are about to put out a shit game, go for the EGS exclusivity, they will pay your bottom line and you can work out bugs and such for the steam release a year later, ALA, every friggin game that has had an EGS exclusivity window. Then again, you could always put your game on gamepass and microsoft will buy a million copies worth of the game and you are once again off the hook (redfall). But I think it is great that we are having fuckin console wars on PC with exclusivity and all this nonsense, it's super great for the consumer! Now when a game launches with exclusivity we know that it's likely a broken mess and the publisher sold out the devs and destroyed the IP but hey.... STONKS!!!

"Steam doesn't offer free games, only free trials" is incorrect. Not only does Steam offer games that are free forever, developers of games can decide if they want to make their game free for a certain period of time. Everyone who "buys" the game during that timed exclusivity period will get and KEEP the game for free. Example: Titan Quest Anniversary Edition was recently free on Steam. I have a copy of it in my library and I can play the game without ever having to pay for it. If you look into the store now, as of July 4th, 2022 (Summer Sale period) the game costs $5.

@martinroxxx168
@martinroxxx168 2 года назад
Well, i do the opposite. I buy from epic games and not steam if possible simply cuz the developer gets more of my money. While valve taxes 30% from tje vuying price, epic games takes 8% (12% if not using the unreal engine, additional to a free amount that is not taxed at all). I wish that the devs of which i buy tje games do more of it, especially indie developers. A boost of ..lets say of 220.000$ at 100.000 sold copys at 10$ per copy can make tje difference if the dev can realize his next vision or not.
@carljohnson3434
@carljohnson3434 9 месяцев назад
@@martinroxxx168 You do know that Microsft/Origin/Ubisoft/Sony also take 30% from developers right? You buying games from Epic because they take "8%" is really a pointless virtue. you're still spending $60 on a game. How it's divvied up after the sale really isn't your problem as a customer... Epic also pays developers for exclusives, That payment also covers losses that would have sold on Steam. So the Developer isn't losing any money, they are double dipping making EVEN more money than they would have. You are getting fucked as a customer and you don't even realize it.
@martinroxxx168
@martinroxxx168 9 месяцев назад
@@carljohnson3434 first of all: answering to a policy post after an almost 2 year old comment with lots of changes in the branche is a weird move to be honest. 2nd. When i compare my releases on steam vs my releases on epic i see slightly higher sales on steam which revenue gets eaten up by the 30%. Even with a little lower sales on epic, my revenue is higher, thanks to the 8% (and i know some of the 8% is flowing back into the unreal engine that i use anyway, so i know where at least some of the given money flows back into the pipeline). So, when i am BUYING games, i dont buy games for a launchertype or an network achitecture of a brand, to be fair..we are living in a time where most can be pirated. So i actively decide to give the developers money and out of my own position as a developer, i want the devs that i like and support by buying the game to have the biggest revenue, and when i can decide between a 30% cut and an 8% cut at the same sellprice i will always prefer the latter. I am a stakeholder when buying games and if i like the creativity and style from a company, i have an interest in seeing them flourish. To say its none of my buisiness as a customer is a very naive and imho wrong version of seeing the world. You are rambling some talking points down without hanging onto a single argument. Epics own developers and exclusives by their own developers have nothing to do with it. When other companies use other/the same taxation it has nothing to do with it. Stay to the arguments that matter and leave the other BS out of it. Cheers.
