Steamboat Willie In Color - First 2 Minutes (Sneak Peak) 

Howdy! Now, I know you might have a few questions. Here I am to answer them: 1. Where's the full cartoon??? The colorization process took a bit longer than anticipated. We still have a few segments like you can see here that still need to be colored in. We've also been reached out by a few animation festivals that were interested in screening our project. So the cartoon in full will unfortunately not be released for another few months. 2. Where are his iconic red shorts??? Fun (legal) Fact: The red shorts Mickey variant is still technically under copyright protection, at least for another ten years or so. Those original teasers we uploaded were merely a test of the colorization process (as well as to catch people's attention). The blue shorts version is the official one we're releasing. Very wise going with the blue pants for Mickey there. Best not to tempt any excuse for Disney to take this down. Can't wait to see the full thing!

The virgin "crap horror movie cheaply made and rushed out to capitalise on the character going PD" vs the chad "hand-coloured version of the original that took countless hours to make and with a painstaking attention to detail"

For anyone wondering, colored Mickey is in the public domain thanks to posters for the Gallopin' Gaucho short (also in the public domain) have the standard colors Disney uses for him

Wow, you've really breathed new life into this almost 96 year-old cartoon. All of the colors look accurate to 1930's Silly Symphonies-era Disney too! Awesome work!

Honestly, this is by far one of the best things to come out of Steamboat Willie becoming public domain.

This looks absolutely incredible. This is the first time I see somebody actually trying to make a black and white cartoon into full color this perfectly. Disney should have done this like years ago but they couldn’t wanted to colorize the cartoon. I’m excited to see the full version of the iconic short in color. You earned yourself a subscriber.

Usually, I'm not big on making black and white things in colour, but I like this. Blue shorts are a nice alternative to red shorts

Officially released to this episode, there was a poster released on the same day. The poster was colored and mickey had his red shorts. It should be public domain.

This will be very good. Exactly how someone in the public domain should do, make it faithful but still not exactly like Disney's work.

It still doesn't look *right* to me in color, but considering some of the colorations I've seen - this is actually quite nice. Its not too distracting

This is incredibly and important for the public domain. I don’t agree with the US copyright laws and it is too long and hinder creativity. I love this and I can’t wait to see what Disney says.😂🎉😂🎉😂🎉🎉🎉😂😂😂

For the record, the color of a black-and-white character's shorts is way below the threshold of originality needed to qualify for copyright. So even if you were to go with the classic red, it'd be a reasonable assumption and not creative enough for Disney to claim that it's copyrightable. There's no copyright on the color red. The only grounds they'd have are for trademark, which is still in effect on the original forever anyway and only has limited, specific protection.

This is phenomenal!!! I've seen the original many many times. To see it presented in a new way is quite surreal. I love the realistic clouds behind the whistles.

Mickey's red shorts are in the public domain too. There are promotional posters released by Disney from 1928 of Mickey that are in color with his red shorts.

Interestingly enough, I think red shorts Mickey might still be legal. I saw there was an ad from 1928 someone posted about with red shorts Mickey. It also would be under public domain as of yesterday.

Makes me laugh when Mickey Rasberry spits at Pete and Pete reacted like how you would react if a squirt gun or a rock hit your back. And hilarious when Pete tried to kick him for that but misses and how his leg made a hilarious and miraculous flexible move where it kicks his butt instead! 😂

Since Steamboat Willie and Oswald the Lucky Rabbit are both in the public domain, someone should replace Micky and Minnie with Oswald and Ortensia. I think that would be super neat. Other than my little request, you did a PHENOMENAL job at restoring this. Very proud.
