Hey thanks for the video. Great stuff. Since you asked, I have the tactical and am waiting on the compact. I got the front fore grip with the spring loaded extendable/retractible bipod with a small picatinny rail on the left side. I got a compact laser sight attached on the fore grip. I have a compact tactical light attached in front of the fore grip on the bottom pica tinny rail, offset to the right side, with a remote pressure switch attached to the left side behind the fore grip. So my trigger hand can stay in place, and I can control the bipod release button on the fore grip, the laser sight on/off switch and the light pressure switch all with my left thumb without taking my left hand off of the fore grip. It works great for me. I do have the Steambow laser sight installed, but just as a backup in case the batteries go bad on the other one. And I have the scope but haven’t got a chance to get outside to test it out at longer ranges. I have the red dot sight installed on the picatinny rail on the magazine lid that came with the unit. I got the sand color kit on the way and the only other thing I think I’ll include is a cheek riser. One other thing I attached is a set of vibration insulator strips by LimbSaver from amazon, and installed them on the back of the limb wedged in each end where the string meets the limb. Those help dissapate some of the vibration from both the string and the limb. So that’s what is working great for me. Happy Shooting!

Must be like pulling a 90 lb compound bow and that's pretty tough. You can't do this without getting used to lower draw-weights and if you dry-fire it, the limb will be destroyed because it's carbon-fiber. I put a 80 lbs Hori-Zone Redback limb on the Stinger, but the former model with the rattling lever. No problem to cock that and it survived already a dry-fire without a crack. Without lever 50 lb should be okay if the default 30 lb is too weak.

Easily 5-6 inches or smaller at 10 meters with good technique and just a little bit of practice, pie plate at 15 meters. Crossbows with short darts are not very forgiving. The stock on the Tactical adds bulk but also improves steadiness.

Thank you for the informative presentation. But what's about the 90 lbs. limb? Is it possible to cock the Compact crossbow with that limb? God bless you and many greetings from Germany.
@fletchedevolution
@fletchedevolution 2 года назад
I can cock the CQ with the 90 pound limbs, but have to brace the Stinger on the floor. But I have to be very careful to not bend the cocking bars with the effort since the bow is not stable this way. And I almost need two fingers to pull the trigger, since the trigger weight goes up with the draw weight. So for me, this is no longer rapid fire or smooth cocking in any sense. It would be easier with a cocking stirrup, but then still not rapid fire. But I am also not the strongest guy out there! Anybody out there able to smoothly run the CQ with 90 pound limbs?
@fletchedevolution
@fletchedevolution 2 года назад
@alx Yes, and the 55 lbs is the really the sweet spot for me on the compact. A bit more effort required for cocking, especially at the end, but then more power in the shot. And not really slower in terms of rate of fire because the cocking disturbs the sight picture and bow presentation no matter what, so I have to aim again anyway.

@@fletchedevolution I have a Cobra Adder with 130lb arms. Not sure if the trigger assemblies are different but is the Tactical Stinger w/90lb comparable in any way regarding trigger effort?
@fletchedevolution
@fletchedevolution 2 года назад
@@fozfactor I have only played around a bit with an Adder and not really shot it seriously, since I don't have one. So I can't compare the trigger effort unfortunately. The 90 lbs on the Stinger is very heavy, but also doable with a little practice and good trigger control. Based on the different latch mechanism on the Adder, I think the Stinger might require more effort since you are lifting the string out of the notch on the Stinger.

What is the maximum effective range to kill a deer with this bow at all the different limb draw weights. I haven’t been able to find any of this detailed info and I’m curious as I’m new to the pistol bows.
@fletchedevolution
@fletchedevolution Год назад
Keith Warren has taken a couple of hogs at close range, I think maybe 10 yards, with an 80 lb Stinger 1. I have done testing with road kill, and a broadhead fired with a 120 lb draw weight will go through a 65 lb deer (small species) behind the shoulder from 20 meters/22 yards away and bury itself in the wooden backstop. However, I think the cutting diameter is too small to ethically use on game of that size. Deadly yes, but I think the kill will be slow in most cases.

@fletchedevolution

I can handle the 75 lb in the Compact with no problems, but 90 is too much to be practical for me at all. I know a guy who can handle 90 in the Compact fine, he is very strong, but he says that he gets tired of it after a couple of magazines because he likes the Compact for fast shooting while staying on target.

@@tomacheteful www.steambow.at/produkt/ar-6-stinger-ii-folding-stock-adapter/?lang=en is up and in stock on their site right now, but I don't know how much shipping would be, or if they are fulfilling straight from the US now. The price I see is 49.99 euros. I just checked the threading on my LAW Tactical Folder for my actual AR, and the threads are all the same between the Steambow buttstock and my AR receiver and buffer tube. If you search for "folding stock adapter" on ebay or Amazon, you will find knock-offs of the LAW adapter that should work, and they run as low as $25.75 if you want to buy straight from China. One difference is that the Steambow adapter has longer threading into the buttstock receiver part than the LAW folder, maybe because you are using that as the lever to cock up to 90 lbs. So maybe the Steabow option is slightly stronger. I hope this helps!

I will test this in detail (maximum range with useful penetration and accuracy). I have mostly been shooting and tweaking the FENRIS over the past couple of weeks, but I am getting about 5 inch groups with the 55 lb limbs at 10 meters, offhand using a red dot on the carbine. Just a fraction of what you wanted to know, but more systematic details will come!

Is dry fire bad for the steam bow?
@fletchedevolution
@fletchedevolution 5 месяцев назад
Dry firing is bad for any bow or crossbow. Avoid if at all possible! Lower draw weights usually survive a number of dry firings, but higher draw weights will delaminate or break faster, and polymer end caps may break.

Do you think you could kill a black bear with this bow?
@fletchedevolution
@fletchedevolution 5 месяцев назад
@@JayHughes-d1s I don't think ethically or reliably, if at all. Maybe enough penetration at 150 lb to get to vitals from a good angle with ideal shot placement, but iffy for sure. And even then a bot over a half an inch of cutting diameter with the available offerings, only two blades.

@@lukecarnell2099 If by larger you mean higher draw weight, yes. The available weights up to now are 35, 55, and 90, with a 120 lb option currently in testing by various people, me included. There are also thoughts of a 150 lb, but I think that would mostly be Survival only. I can cock the 120 lb in a tactical with the buttstock on my shoulder, but that is a lot of work. If you mean a wider limb, I suppose if you could find one, but it would not change the powerstroke. Maybe the rate of acceleration depending on how the limb ends were designed.

Pointing the bow in a safe direction, first open the magazine cover and tip the bow to unload all bolts. Keep your finger out of the trigger guard while you are doing this, and do not bump the string. Then turn the bow back upright, grip the string firmly with your non-firing hand, press the trigger and let the string down slowly, making sure not to dry fire.
