Also running the Magpul CTR w/ 0.75 cheek riser. Anything lower than that and it was terrible trying to line up the shot with the reflex. I got the picatinny rail mag cover as well. Any reason you don't want to mount the reflex closer to your face instead with the picatinny mag cover plate? The FOV through the sight was really bad having it mounted so far forward. Acquisition always took more time because I had trouble finding the red dot. Much easier when it's closer to your face with a much larger FOV. My only concern is that there's a bit of a wobble on the cover so that might affect the zero. I mean people mount scopes to it, so it should be fine for a reflex/red dot. I skipped the trigger upgrade, because as even mentioned by Steambow's rep, they aren't as reliable as the more simple trigger design. Fewer parts = fewer failures.
My end loops have gone on my string. Accidentally dry fired my Stinger and this horrible burnt smell suddenly came about. Checked the string and the loop serving was loose with the orange and black string poking through. Was a fairly new string too. Gutted.
I bought the orange target and after about 200 skinny arrows used in warm conditions and stores indoors it's showing rips in the material. Contacted Steambow and they are simply not interested
Answer : Absolutely without question YES! Part of what I dislike on the polymer version is the frame can bend outwards as you tighten the bolt for securing the throwing arm through the end of the polymer frame - this has the potential to either damage the frame or offset the accuracy of the crossbow
I attached a handle underneath the vlad and the cocking became much more comfortable and easier. Don't know why they went with that bayonet style thing at the front.
I really hope they put this on the market! I got the tactical a few months back, and I've been using the 150lb limb. I purchased the aluminum magazine just for peace of mind. (If they recommend using aluminum tips for the 120+ limbs, then I figured I'd get the metal magazine as a precaution as well) Reloading with the polymer felt a bit nerve racking at times 😬. My hope is that, at the very least, they'd be able to make the metal parts on a special request order type of basis. Though I anticipate it to be just as expensive as the metal magazine if not more.
The bolt loosening issue definitely has been something to find out the hard way with my gator cross bow pistol! Luckily i found both the allen screw, and the metal block!
Really like your channel and thanks for all your advice . I do have a question for you about the strings though. What's your favorite string or brand of strings for the heavy limbs? I'm actually thinking of making my own from a product called braided dyneema. What are your thoughts on something like that ?
I know of people who have spliced strings using 3 mm braided Dyneema and are very happy with the durability. You just need to make sure you insert a piece of dyneema in the middle or serve the string like you normally would so that it is thick enough to function reliably.
I just tested my Steambow AR-6 Stinger 2 Survival using 120lb Magnum limb. I found the trigger hard to pull comparison to my Stinger Compact 35lb limb is it because of the heavy limb? Or do I need to upgrade the trigger?
the big key to solve is what target material works best to extend bolts life!! ive been trying many different materials. im finding that hard wood metal or poly backbored as last layer positive bolt stop., then foam, rubber, or styraphoam or clothing layer no thicker than the bolts flight beginning. keeping flights from ever contacting target material extends the life of the bolt majorly!! so my targets material layer is always 3" or less before the positive stop last layer! new bolts get flights detached then stick open bolt in foam super glue 2/3 drops into bore to strengthen tip bolt hold, let cure 24 plus hrs. then super glue flight and tap back into bolts and let cure another 24hr or so! a little extra work in the beginning and i still have most of all bolts i buy shooting daily. random acts of violence on glass bottles or metals laying around is worth destroying a couple every now and then.
The magazine is not adapted to hunting arrows, the arrows are too loose, which means that the shots go into the magazine. When I tried to release the crossbow after an emergency, two arrows suddenly came out the front, injuring myself. (one next to the other, I don't know how that can happen). the safety didn't work any more after the loss of a nut, completely random, with no outside influence. the laser target is very bad, unusable when reloading, the stock folds to the side, very inconvenient when you need to act fast. Training arrows can only be used once, after which they are immediately bent. Quality is only really present in the stock, everything else is not precision-mounted or bends. The crossbow is not suitable for emergencies or sport, it's just a toy, by no means a quality tool.
Did your stinger come with the quick change for the limbs or did you have to buy that option, if so do you have a video and link for the quick change limb option?😊😮
Thanks for this video. I fitted a 90 ib limb on my compact but found the extra trigger resistance does effect accuracy, i think a trigger upgrade may resolve that.
Helikon Tex, www.helikon-tex.com/en_eur/zw-rfs-po-two-point-carbine-sling.html?r=1, I am also happy with other brands with an equivalent design including Magpul, but the price point is of course higher there 👍
Dry firing is bad for any bow or crossbow. Avoid if at all possible! Lower draw weights usually survive a number of dry firings, but higher draw weights will delaminate or break faster, and polymer end caps may break.
@@user-bj9lz8mp5s I don't think ethically or reliably, if at all. Maybe enough penetration at 150 lb to get to vitals from a good angle with ideal shot placement, but iffy for sure. And even then a bot over a half an inch of cutting diameter with the available offerings, only two blades.
Which mounting plate did you use for the Fenix GL22? I had trouble mounting it to the rail with the GL22 block attached, but I couldn't zero it properly without the block attached???
@@fletchedevolution I didn't have an issue with mounting, but it really seemed to affect the zeroing. The up/down adjustment was completely useless. Thanks
I got my stinger 2 tactical in 2022 and got an additional 90lb limb. It's been a while and I went back to check them out and notice they now have higher weighted limbs and heavier weighted bolts. I don't plan on a heavier limb as I think the 90lb is perfect for home defense, however I noticed they now have a disclaimer that for 90lb limbs should not be used with regular bolts as it will damage equipment ? In your opinion is this valid or just some bs to get you to buy the newer heaavier weighted stock ?
I believe it to be valid. This is a fundamental aspect of archery in general, that shooting arrows or bolts that are too light for the draw weight leaves too much energy in the bow and system, which accelerates wear or can at worst cause some breakage. Another angle is that based on good, thorough velocity measurements and energy calculations from compound bows that I have seen, shooting heavier arrows from a given draw weight will generally translate a small percentage more of the available energy in the bow into kinetic energy. I think 90 lb is definitely adequate for home defense, based on my meat target tests. A good balance between speed of cocking/follow-up shots and penetration. But I shoot 150 grains as a minimum from 90 lb.
An ACTUAL draw weight of say 90 pounds is going to perform the same with the same arrow and same power stroke. You can get limbs from 35 to 150 lb for a Stinger, and these might also fit in a Redback, for example. A Stinger Tactical will give you way more leverage for cocking than a Redback, which only has a shorter tail. On a Vlad, the rated draw weights of 60 and 90 are understated. The 60 lb limb is more like 70, and the 90 is more like 100 or 110, thereabouts. But the leverage for cocking you get with the Vlad is a bit less than with the Stinger due to the design differences.
I can handle the 75 lb in the Compact with no problems, but 90 is too much to be practical for me at all. I know a guy who can handle 90 in the Compact fine, he is very strong, but he says that he gets tired of it after a couple of magazines because he likes the Compact for fast shooting while staying on target.
Vlad needs to drop their stock and go with an AR-15 style stock and front grip also add some rail systems for attachment. I shot a friends stinger and I love it planning on buying one soon.
