I love the backstory of this guy. He lost his hand Insurance wouldn't get him another one so he said" fuck it I'm going to build one out of spite" and that's something we all can live by I feel. But it is great to see him go further with his project every single day. Two thumbs up to that guy. Not only that he has changed how we view prosthetics. Edit: 1. I was using voice to text so what I was trying to say wasn't as fluid as I'd like it to be. 2. Didn't realize this blew up as much as it did.

The speed or the device was one of the driving forces for the iteration. As cool as an I digits quantum is, and they are cool, 1 second to open 1 second to close was maddening to me. I also didn't care for the fragility of the devices currently offered in the marketplace.

@@missingpartsclub What do you think is the biggest reason that myoelectric prostheses are getting a lot of attention as the future of prosthetics while mechanical ones like yours are not given as much attention despite (in your case) superior performance? absolutely amazing!! needs a couple springs, a small wheel type thing that constantly spins 180° but pauses briefly before each turn and a little device that emits a small puff of steam every 30 seconds... that would be real neat steam punk

I had the same experience, my first experience in prosthetics was for my high school senior thesis, then I went off onto the real world and stared my career life. I always felt like prosthetics design was my calling but it wasn't until the cancer dx and losing my hand that I was able to take the time to get back to this project. In an ironic sort of way I am very thankful for terminal blood cancer, low bone density, and the loss of my fingers. Because hopefully now I'll be able to help a lot of people with my bonus time.

I'm currently in high school and haven't actually done much with prosthetics but I am still very interested in them and look into them often like with this channel, I plan to posiibly pursue an engineering career making prosthetics through a biomedical engineering focus when I'm out of high school. We recently did a shcool project on hand prosthetics using a myoware sensor and I really enjoyed it and wanted to know what other ways there were to pursue this interest by doing real engineering rather than just looking at cool videos.

Your literally doing gods work man. Even if it’s for your hand, many can see this and many can contribute. In reality we should be further ahead when it comes to synthetic limbs. But it’s a predatory market. Really expensive limbs that have no function simply because those companies know people will pay an arm and a leg for an arm and a leg lol but really people just want to feel normal and are willing to spend everything to get that. And these companies are sitting there happy not making any advancements in the field. Sure there are some companies out there. But seeing just what you can do by yourself with your own resources is amazing.
