I saw them open for a superstar act at Madison Square Garden when they had this fantastic hit. I remember really looking forward to seeing it played live. Can you ask your father if it was Rod Stewart? (see update below. I think it was actually Hall & Oates). I love reading comments when members of the family of the artist are posting. Any musician that manages to be in a band that has a Top 20 hit has to be talented. You should be very proud of your dad. This song should have gone top 10 easily. I thought it would go to #1. I constantly played it on my Walkman when going to work I still have it in my mp3 player from time to time. If I remember, Budweiser used the song for a national ad campaign.
Rick Jacobs the lead singer of this band, passed away this past 1/17/2018. I went to Downers Grove South High School with him, although he was a year older and hung out with my sister and her friends, I remember him as a very talented guy and great fun to be around. This video was one of the first on MTV and he will always be remembered for it. Rest in peace Rick, you will be missed.
We used to see them at The Oasis Ballroom in Sacramento back in the 80's back when they made this video, might have seen them at other places too. John Sheehan of Ian Shelter lived close to me and went to my high school, I have not talked to him for years, I guess he is up in Auburn nowadays, I keep trying find their song "Give Me A Reason" and no luck, all I find is "Prior Park".
I had no idea he passed away. It's nice to think of how many people he entertained, especially this song. In the early 90's I was driving back from Ohio and had the radio on an 80's station when this song came on. I hadn't heard it since it dropped off the Top 40. I was so excited to hear it!
Oh hooray for you man! I'm Instagram buddies with a daughter of the guitarist. Where is that pretty mansion? Let me guess Los Angeles. The band must have had a great time changing costumes. Great sense of humor
B. Smith This song and what do all the people know by the monroes R2 little known songs that should be much more well known. Or come to think of it I’m happy that they are under rated jams which more sensitive music types like you and I are aware of
OMG, I went to their concert and we actually partied with the band before the concert. I still have my concert ticket, a dollar bill they signed and a picture in a frame. Dang I am getting old....
Haha . Yeah .. I Know the Feeling ! .. '82 .. what a Great Year in Music ! .. Too Bad Steel Breeze went Nowhere .. They were actually Pretty Good ! :) .. I've Still got the Record .. One hit Wonder !! :)
Don't apologize for getting old. At least you're able to say you remember when really talented people played their own instruments in live concerts. And you're still cute. ;)
Tanya Ivie I have teenage memories of this song when I found it on a used K-Tel tape in 2002 (nowhere near as cool as yours lol), and it scares me how long ago even that is now! I guess the upside to these dudes not being major stars is it was easier to meet them.
my friend, you already have a time machine. your CD, your vinyl, tape, mp3, youtube....that is a time machine. not the full deal, but a link to the past
Damn Right Brother!!! The Good Old Days!!! I was 13 years old. Not all this crap we're listening to or dealing with now! Sorry...It'll never be great again like is was back then!!! People don't realize that! Gen X for the world!!!
My grandparents literally ditched my parents & I at a state (county?) fair in California so they could see a Steel Breeze concert. We were living overseas at the time & hadn't seen them for about 4 years. In other words, my grandma story is better than your grandma story. :p
griffinmatter bless our sweet grandmothers hearts. Mine was so gracious in buying me my first 45’s....Billy Joel’s “It’s Still Rock n Roll To Me” and Paul McCartney’s “Coming Up”. This STEEL BREEZE song really brings back memories, man! It wasn’t too popular here in Hawaii. But I’ve learned over the years that I have better taste in music than most here. Lol. Jk
Is that why being a Sacramento band they were asked to play the theme song for the 1986 movie Witchboard with Bump In The Night? They are an awesome band!!!
After 30 years, suddenly this song popped into my mind.....so, grateful to RU-vid and the person who uploaded this song. Although this song is the only one I know from the band.....it's a powerful one to reach across time and touch me decades later, Ravi Peiris M.D.
I heard this the first time on American Bandstand with Dick Clark. I ran out the same day and bought the album. I was spinning tunes in the clubs at the time. I played the hell out of this track in the clubs. Loved this song then, and still do. Great tune.
Somehow, I have a thing for remembering obscure its from the early 1980s, despite the fact that I was a grade school student at the time. Then again, my parents did often play WLS on the radio, which was a Chicago station that featured an eclectic mix of popular tunes...
Throughout the 80's I collected obscure music that, for some reason, rarely ever played on the radio (if ever). Keel - "I said the wrong thing to the right girl", Orion the Hunter - "So You Ran", The Rubinoos - "If I Had You Back", Danny Spanos - "Hot Cherie", Blue Oyster Cult - "Dancin in the Ruins", Deep Purple - "Knockin at your Back Door", Rainbow - "Since you been Gone", Michael Stanley Band - "My Town" and lots more that I can't remember off the top of my head. I'm not saying they never played on the radio. But I never heard them on the radio then, and certainly not now. Classic Rock stations play the same 100 songs over and over and over.
I saw this band perform in 1982 at The Cotton Bowl in Dallas when they opened for The Who on their 1st "Final Tour". Billy Squire was the other opening act. I can honestly tell you that it was one of the best concert experiences that I've ever had. Steel Breeze was simply awesome! Rock & Roll never dies!!
Ha! I saw Kansas in 1979 (at Clemson University), and they were preceded by "Sniff'n the Tears" - a one-hit wonder who wrote "Driver's Seat" (remember it?) They were just *awful* - probably the single-worst act I've ever seen that was supposed to be a real act. They were actually booed by the Clemson audience (not the most sophisticated consumers of music in the world).
Wow, with Kansas. They almost seem like opposites. Seems Steel Breeze was more in the SPYS “Don’t Run My Life” genre. I remember going to see Bad Company and Kansas opened for them. That was a great concert. Bad Co. was good but Kansas blew them away !!!
@pontiacguy28 I know your post is 5 years old, but I just heard this song for the first time in a very long time on the very same channel yesterday. Great tune.
1982, I was a junior in high school at Sacramento High School and this song was huge on Sacramento radio, KZAP 98.5 fm. Until now, I had totally forgot about this Sac Town Classic. This song can bring back a lot of forgotten memories.
Whoa, I was raised in Sac during the 90s but didn't know of this song yet (not until the early 2000s). Knowing the band were from my hometown makes me feel more connected to it though.
Lead singer Rick Jacobs passed coming up on three years ago. I went high school with him, Downers Grove South....I remember going to Rocky Glen, a forest preserve near Aregon labs. He had his guitar, and was playing while we were partying. I asked him if he could play Jumping jack flash, which he immediately started to play. He just had that musical talent we all admire. I have to watch this video every so often, because he just was too young to leave. Amazing person. Deepest sympathies to his family still.
I was 13 years old when this song came out and it was one of my favorite songs for that year in the 80's. I had a 12 inch compilation record from K-TEL Records and bought the vinyl just for this song back then. AWESOME SONG!!!!!!!!!!! PERIOD
Forgot all about this great tune until I heard it on the radio today. Had to quickly write down the name and artist (glad the DJ said Steel Breeze) or I may have not known. If I had not moved down to Florida recently I may have never heard this song again for back home their wasn't many radio stations to choose from like here. BACK WHEN MUSIC WAS GREAT!
It's really interesting to read these comments. This is one of my favorite songs and videos. I have to listen to it at least once a month. I still have the 45 record single. Ironic that I live in Chicago are and never knew they were from here.
Used to really like this song in the 80's but haven't heard it in years. The other day, for some reason, it popped into my head, and I had to look it up.
Just found out the frontman Rick Jacobs died in 2018. Reading his obituary it's even sadder how the 80s are so long ago that he was presented as a regular dude who used to be in a band when he was young, as just a passing footnote of his life. I'm one of the youngest 80s kids (born '85) but that makes me feel super old.
Had Steel Breeze at THE LOST C Night Club in Versailles, Ohio when (You don't Want Me Anymore) came out. They put on one hell of a show. Always wanted to have them back. But never was able to get them booked.
love this song out of sacramento back in the day .....written for his girl friend (who worked at APA off of cottage) and when she found out the song was for her she took him back!! rip Rick!
Crazy! I remember this video perfectly - especially the mustache swapping to the different guys in the band and the guitar solo - but I have no memory of the actual song.
#16 on the Hot 100....and #100 for the year. Not bad. The guitar solo is excellent. All the one-hit wonders got to write a page in rock's history. Or a paragraph anyway.
Basically if up grew up in Nor. Cal in the 70s early 80s All we really Had Before Steal Breeze was Bands from SanFran or Moriss Taylor!! This was even Pre-Tesla (1986) Night Ranger from San Fran or formed in San Fran. Steel Breeze put Nor-cal on the map . Since most Towns and City's in Nor-Cal didn't have Cable TV yet even in earlier 80s so no MTV for us LOL. We lived on the Radio. And Nor-Cal radio station played Steel Breeze. They all did . I believe even the Country stations were playing Steel Breeze just because they were formed in Sacramento . Thanks for good times and memories.
I remembered the name of this band, and I remembered the story about how someone listened to a box of demo tapes that was about to be discarded and found only one worthwhile song, but I totally forgot what the song sounded like. Well, now I remember, thank you RU-vid.
I have a pretty respectable music collection and I listen to music many hours of the day. It should count for something when I tell you that I have not heard this song since it was big. It's been decades since I even thought about this band.
Hung with Rick at a thrift shop in San Mateo. Had some shoes there and when a pair sold we could get some beer. One day he disappears and Steve says he left to go to Sacramento to be in a band. I almost bleeped when I saw him on Merv Griffin. Soon after Rick is a big rock star and we go to see him and hang out. The funny part is I owed him $40 for a tape deck. He was on MTV and he would call my house to collect. I said your a big star and he said he only got a small per diem a day. I paid him but it still makes me laugh today at 66 years old RIP (Rock in Peace) Rick
my best bro at the time was a nephew of Uncle Cal, who knew Waylin C. and the band. One mid-80's party night in Sacto, Waylin whipped out his guitar in the living room just jamming casually but i was 19 or so & never seen a guy play like that up close before it was amazing. They played a gig in the middle of the day at my HS gym in '79 or '80.
I had just moved from England, married into the U.S.A.F. We were stationed at Tyndall A.F.B. I fell in love with this song the first time I heard it on the radio...so many good memories connected to this ....❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
What a great song. Totally lost hit from the 80’s, they don’t make em like this anymore! The video is great and the girl was super hot. What more can you ask for?
Ahh man- I remember this - it was my 8th grade year. This was my theme song, I had an "Ocean Pacific" shirt and pierced my left ear thought it was SO COOOOOL!!
Ah, the eihries - what a good time for music and living! Videos were so amateur and so much fun and it felt so good to DANCE!!! Alas, youth is so wasted on the young! Party on young soldiers of hip! It really doesn't last forever!
I grew up in Yuba City/Marysville California and one of my high school friends was Richard Pantaleoni, Vinnie's cousin or brother, can't remember which now, in Yuba City and we went to Wilson HS together 1978-82. Richard and I both lived way out in the country and rode the bus together. Wayne is from Marysville. We were so proud of you guys back then, thanks for the memories
Finally! The complete video! Every other upload of this song on RU-vid has the intro snipped off, and I don't think I ever saw the end of the video, either. I think when MTV showed it, they faded out at the point where she hands the rose to the singer and he looks as he sings the chorus one more time. Always thought this was a cool song!
