Vulcan-I would guess your going to get to a point where you have your units all dug in and a solid front line established. All this leaves is ensuring that you have the right mix of troops to defend against the AI pushes. Excellent use of the JU-87’s this is getting good

The line will only get stronger the longer I hold. I might decide to start pushing back at some point too although I am trying to avoid cheesing the AI.

In the centre counter attacks are quite easy, the 78th sturm’s troops are godlike, you’ll beat any infantry battalion in a 1v1 even when attacking As For other units Isolate a target and beat it with combined arms ie take out the AAA rgt with arty and troops or run down a mechanised unit with infantry and armour. Its great to keep the soviet off balance and ensures you have the option of air support.

I don't want to counter attack too much because with the recon on the flanks I bet you can very easily win the campaign. I normally just focus on making things more interesting than min max.

You gotta time those JU87s and air recon a bit better, also could've just spammed those bombers, you were floating over 100 points for nothing. Edit: Oh sorry, you did it just a bit later. Good job Vulcan! I think you should kill the artillery on the top and bottom to maintain your air support in the future.

I could of done it sooner but it would have been too easy.

there at 53:55 , the grand finale of the stuka flying circus performance. but certainly even if they look less impossing than that final carpet bombing, the gun pod JU-87 certainly can break havok when unopposed by fighters or AA.

I've been really enjoying using the gunpods. It's nice to see a unit that is neglected in multiplayer do so well in singleplayer.

Unless I'm mistaken, bombarding enemy units is only really useful before you launch an attack in that it strips those potential supporting units of their action points & thereby excludes them from the battle (IE they are not available for the defending AI in A/B or C phases). Bombarding them when you're not going to attack just strips your own artillery of their action points and means you cannot use them to defend when the AI attacks you at the end of your turn. Any AI units you bombarded during your turn will be re-supplied at the start of their turn, rendering your own bombardment meaningless & counterproductive.
@VulcanHDGaming
@VulcanHDGaming 4 года назад
Unless it's a HQ battalion the AI divisions will only recover 2 action points. You need 3 to attack. In other words the bombardment delays them and therefore is useful both offensively and defensively. If I left a battalion on 1 action point and did not bombard, they would gain back 2 and be able to initiate with 3.
@McMonkeyful
@McMonkeyful 4 года назад
I've just run a quick test to confirm I'm not mistaken about this. The enemy definitely regains its action points at the start of its turn to all units within supply range regardless of whether you've bombarded them during your turn or not, so bombarding is only worthwhile when you plan to attack and want to exclude enemy units from joining in the defence, otherwise it is best to conserve the APs for your defence during the AI turn. Another valuable lesson I learned during my unsuccessful Soviet Baronovitchi campaign was that using Cavalry/Recon units to tear off around the enemy flanks trying to create encirclements may seem like a good idea but there were a lot of turns where my 2 AP units nearest the enemy could not initiate a battle, with the ultimate result that I couldn't quite take the final objective in time. Had I kept the recon mixed in with my frontline units I could have initiated & fought many more battles and easily reached the objective before the time limit. Perhaps off-topic for this video, but I thought I would share as someone may find that bit of info useful.

@@McMonkeyful You can literally watch what Vulcan is talking about in his reply happen at 10:15 of this video. I don't understand why you aren't getting this.
@VulcanHDGaming
@VulcanHDGaming 4 года назад
Let me try and explain, bombarding takes away all action points from a unit. Each turn a unit that is not HQ gets 2 AP back. The AI needs 3 AP to attack. This means if you bombard a unit or they have 0 AP the turn before it will never be able to initiate battle the turn after. This is why you do it. You might notice I only bombard units when the units nearby have 0 AP. Also, even if that is not the case, having enemy units come in B instead of A is very helpful (assuming you left a unit with at least 1 AP or HQ nearby the turn before that might initiate)
@McMonkeyful
@McMonkeyful 4 года назад
@@VulcanHDGaming OK, that makes sense. I did not realize the 2/3 difference & saw the AI units being resupplied at the start of their turn. So in my Barnovitchi campaign when I was advancing I must have been leaving my forward infantry units on 0 AP at the end of my turn. If I left them on 1 AP then on my following turn they would get +2 AP = 3AP total and would be able to initiate an attack in A phase & free up my recon units to tear-ass around the enemy flanks. Thanks for ex[plaining that. It's an important mechanic to understand and one the developers could have spent a little more effort on by producing some kind of tutorial for the campaign.

Cheers crew, I'm seriously looking at picking this up. But... My question here is, We shouldn't be allowed the full Intel of enemy units & dispositions of units...not within contact. Is there a 'fog factor'?

Losing a few marders in an attack that couldve gone completely south is really impressive lol. You couldve lost the whole unit but played it so well that im acctually shocked. Esspescially since as us (the viewers) take it for granted and AAALWAAYYSS couldve done better. While in fact they wouldnt even survive at all. Good stuff!
