The main lesson I drew from this video is I need more maces. Short ones, long ones, heavy ones, light ones. :-)

I agree about the 10-2 being easier with a heavier mace. I find it difficult to do them with my warm up or flow maces (sub 8KG). The mace tends to fly a bit wild in the front at the end of the pull over. The heavy mace head tends to hang in space better at the rest points of 10 and 2 and the weight doesn't seem to be able to get out in front of you so easily and drift. I attribute this to the weight being harder to pull over at speed. Great video. 10-2 is one of my favorite exercises!

Interesting take on it! I was however not specifically talking about the weight, more about the length (usually heavier maces are also taller). I have a 20kg mace which is about 108cm and I definitely prefer to go 300 degrees.

@@TheFlowingDutchman Mine is 106cm. I see your point and I think it is very valid. I specifically went heavy with my mace to get the longer handle as I am tall and the longer mace feels right when I swing i but I did not take into account the mechanical advantage/disadvantages to the length of the lever in the 10-2. Thank you for the reply!

Thanks for the info I was having trouble with the 10 to 2 but now I understand what I was doing wrong. I have no problem with the 360

Thank you for the clarification. This is confusing when you first start mace, but you cannot articulate it. I believe most of the cheap Chinese maces people start with actually frustrate this confusion. They are too short. What I did right away was to avoid buying a truck full of maces I bought one that had to be at least 42 inches, which I found a perfect fit with CK Maceworks Cadi Mace, and also got their Cadi Club with the XL loading pin. The Cadi Club is more like a bulava, and w the long pin I can stack small one inch “standard” weight plates to dial in the weight and leverage I want. Now I can train both variations of these exercises with only two maces. I think ultimately as we develop mastery and make our own system (think Bruce Lee: form of no form) we will move through these kind of variations across workouts and even in the same workout. That is the beauty of it all.

Looks good. Its a bit expensive compared to maces sold by other vendors.

Adex do a tall adjustable in the US, I thought about buying it,- but I am simply too short to make it work.

@@ForteanEnquirer You can, as I've seen other do, stand on a very stable box or something. Like one of those crossfit ones and try it that way.

@@filosofodemierda I didn’t think of that ! In the end I went for their shorter mace, the ARC. I do have a longer fixed weight mace but I am only 5ft 4 so I can’t quite work out if relative, to limb length, I end up with the right geometry for the 10 to 2

I never thought of these before a few days ago. I started kettlebell around 3 yrs ago, and the sight I watch, from Lebe Stark in Switzerland, the head trainer was using a macebell. I looked into it, had no idea they were from India. I just ordered one, hopefully the right weight. I've been working out since I was 12, took karate, weight lifting, American football, etc. I'm 55 yrs. old, I am 5'8" tall(maybe tall for a Frisian-American?), and weigh 260 lbs. I bought a 10 lb macebell. Do you think this is the right one? I'll be watching your channel to learn the right techniques. Thanks.

Although I do prefer 300 and the use of degrees, I would argue that the 10-2 position isn't reflective of the "resting" positions either side but something else. It's hard to explain over text but let me try. To come to the resting point on your shoulder you need to draw in the mace. It is therefore no longer part of the larger circle formed behind your back. I would suggest perhaps the 10-2 positions ar more reflective of the moment before the mace is drawn in, when the mace head is on the back circle line. If this was drawn with trails a curved "V" shape would be formed in the middle of the circle, however the pivot point will have dropped at the front which pulls the mace in giving the curved V. I am not sure if I'm getting the point across but hopefully it makes sense. Another way to look at it is that a 360 isn't a true 360 if we want to be pedantic. A true 360 would be a rotation with a continuous pivot behind the neck (only really possible with lighter Mace's / clubs). However the movement brings the mace to the front, and although continuing the movement, changes the shape from a circle with the "v" type of segment in the middle. Anyway, just some thoughts! 😅

I find this super true because I mainly use clubbells and with the shorter lever I find it even harder.
@TheFlowingDutchman

Yep, the shorter the handle, the closer you need to be

What I find most difficult about the 10 to 2 is that the change in angle when, instead of top hand past opposite ear you reverse and go top hand past same side ear. I find the shoulder movement at that point awkward.

Thanks! Now I know, why my "short" 5kg macebell is not really useful for 10-10/10-2. The 300/11-1 feels much more applicable/managable!

If all I want to do is get stronger at 300's what's a strong programming method? I'm doing 10 sets of 10 reps (opposite shoulder and back) and when that starts to feel light I'm adding 2.5lbs. Seems to work but interested to know how others program this progression. Love your content.
