Set in and around the Kaiser Steel Mill in the modern city of Fontana, California, this drama plays out with remarkable use of Technicolor.
This film is often referred to as film noir, but plays out more like a soap drama, set around the heat, power and modernity of this steel town.
The use of technicolor here gives everything and everyone in this modern city a surreal look, much like Peyton Place, Twin Peaks, and Mon Oncle.
Directed by George Sherman and starring Ann Sheridan, John Lund, and Howard Duff. Location shooting took place at the Kaiser Steel Mill in Fontana, California with the remainder shot at Universal City. The film's sets were designed by the art directors Robert Clatworthy and Bernard Herzbrun.
I noticed a remarkable machine at 0:50:00 - I have never seen anything quite like this before. So far, all I could dicover, is that it appears to be a type of pantelegraph, using a elctronic pantograph system over standard telephone wires. The only similar devices I could find were used during the latter part of the 1800s, this device looks far more modern.
It's quite something to have a machine that directiy dupliactes writing and drawing remotely.
I put a clip from the Premiere in Detroit here: • Steel Town 1952 Premie...
Stars: Ann Sheridan, John Lund, Howard Duff
Director: George Sherman
Writers: Gerald Drayson Adams, Lou Breslow, Leonard Freeman
Insights:
Production
Jeff Chandler was originally announced to play the male lead.[4]
Taglines
Men of steel! Women of flesh!
Trivia
The John Lund character drives a white 1951 Kaiser DeLuxe Sedan with a black top as an example of early product placement since the factory scenes were filmed at Kaiser Steel in California.
I created and added original subtitles for English, RU-vid should automatically translate those into other languages quite well.

I'm so SO glad that poor man was rescued from out of that cauldron he fell into! I was like "oh my gosh! Save him, SAVE HIM!!!" :)

I thought that scene worked really well, with the machines operating so slowly it was quite nail-biting.

"Oh! goody goody gum drops!" Cute sarcasm, on Ann, quip for "I'm so delighted."

@@isabellamars Yeah, esp the way Ann wryly does it:). I don’t think any other actress back then could have said it (well, hm, maybe Rosiland Russell could have too) the way she, too me, comically did:) That's my Girl! Ann.

Dolores the waitress was played by actress Nancy Kulp who was probably best known for her role as Miss Jane Hathaway in the old TV series, "The Beverly Hillbillies."

Oh, Thank You, I would never have known, it appears she was also in A Star is Born (1954 Version). these connections are always interesting.

Joe is played by James (Jim) Best. Probably best known for his role as Roscoe P Coltrane on Dukes of Hazzard

A remarkable observation, I would never have made the connection, I might watch me some Dukes of Hazzard, it will make a change, I had forgotten all about it.

was looking for a movie from 1938 with ann sheridan, it’s called Little Miss Thoroughbred. I’m making my way through her filmography, and can’t seem to find a version to stream. would anyone know where to find this film? i would love to see it in a future post!

I looked into it, and can't find a copy available on commercial streaming or otherwise, even under its original title, Little Lady Luck. There are a few reviews that are relatively new on IMDB, so it was likely available not so long ago. Unusually, it's not available anywhere, there's usually a copy somewhere. My guess is it will be available again sometime in the relatively near future. It appears it was never even released on DVD either, all I found was a copy of the original press book on The Internet Archive. I hope you get to see it sometime soon.
