Rod Woodson made the pro bowl at punt return, CB, safety and kick returns,he also made the Olympics in the late 80's greatest Defensive back of all time!!!! My favorite player!!!

Rod also was good for at least 1 pick 6 per game. He could read the offense like no ones business. Especially the QB.

My personal favorite is Rod Woodson but lets be honest, its easily Mel Blount. But I think Ike T was the most under-appreciated corner of his era. If he caught half of the int's he dropped I think he would be a first ballot HOF'r!

You hit the nail on the head. If Ike had even an average set of hands to catch the football with, he would be spoken of among the elite talents at CB like Mel and Rod.

Mel, Rod, Ike. In that order…

There are only 2 people that can be considered best CB all time. Mel Blount and Rod Woodson. I saw them both play. Yes there were different rules in place between the two. But those rules were put in place because of Mel Blount. He was so dominant that other teams quit throwing his direction. That became a regular theme as the league started running less. But its not just the goose egg in receptions. He was an extremely physical player. WRs were actually afraid to run to his side on a route whether they were the intended target or not, because he beat on them during the play. It is ridiculously easy to find interviews of WRs who would talk about not wanting to face him. Very much like it had been for Dick Butkus. Mel Blount was 6'4" during his playing days. The stopwatch time for him was 4.40. Which means he could get under 4.40. Here is the kicker. That rule change happened in '78. His stats didn't drop. He stopped rag dolling immediately. He still shut people down and had the exact same stats as he did before. He made the pro bowl 4 more times after that rule change. He was 30 yrs old the first yr with the change. His last Pro bowl he was 34. He retired 2 years later. I could write a great story for Woodson. I watched both play. Woodson was asked who was the best who ever played. Now mind you he was sitting beside Deon Sanders when he said this. He said Mel Blount. There is nobody that comes close. Deon then right after said when he first met Mel he was intimidated and shocked by his size. He then said when I see Mel I always call him Mr Blount. That convo is not hard to find on RU-vid. Its Mel. Nobody played that position better than him in the history of the game. Only other Steeler who can make a claim at a positional best ever in league history is Mike Webster at Center.

Rush or Trice on the outside and Jackson covering the slot is a potential solution as well.

Jackson is really an outside corner only. You want that speed outside

Rod Wilson was a great player. I have to consider Rod as possibly the best corner back I've seen for the Steelers. However, Mel Blunt was so dominant as a corner back that the NFL had to change the rules to give receivers a chance of succeeding against him. I've been watching the Steelers since the 50's. Some fans may not be old enough to have seen how dominant Mel Blunt was from 1970 to the early 80's. Both Rod Woodson and Mel Blunt were great players but I would have to say that Mel Blunt was the most dominant corner back of his time.

It was no surprise that Sutton was going to miss a significant amount of time. That’s why we got him on a minimum contract. And tough to pick between Rod Woodson and Mel Blount.
