Jack Lambert had the best Hall of Fame speech and he finished it appropriately. If I can start my life all over again I would be a professional football player and you damn well better believe I'd be a Pittsburgh Steeler
Congrats to you and your grandson. I’m sure you are extremely proud of him and all the hard work he has put in. Here’s hoping this is just the beginning for his Steelers career. And 🎉WELCOME TO STEELERS NATION🥳🍾🎊‼️‼️‼️
I was Raiders fan and hated Steelers but those were some great teams. Respected them so much. Gotta love Steelers organization for the fact they've only had 3 head coaches in the last 54 years.
Fandom can be so funny. Me and my brothers were Steelers fans growing up on Long Island in the 70's (yeah NY) and we all despised the Raiders! I think we all hated Madden the most (the 70's version of Rex Ryan in retrospect, or so it seemed), but Stabler and Biletnikoff (do you remember him smoking on the sidelines?) and Tatum were the guys on the field to be feared, and despised. My brother until he passed still hated them, even though he had become a Jets fan long before. We're all Americans, and love our country, but with a passion we'll hate teams and their fans and kick each other's asses. Fandom is definitely funny.
As a Pittsburgh kid, I remember that 70's team and I had so many great boyhood memories. Super Bowl IX was probably the first football game I ever watched. Those men were titans to me. Heroes.
Never get tired of watching the old Steelers. I’d like to mention some of the lesser known players that made huge, lesser known plays in the Super Bowls: Glen Edwards - safety 27 Mike Wagner - safety 23 J.T. Thomas - cornerback 24 Gerry Mullins - tackle 72 Reggie Harrison - special teams 46
From about 9years old to 16 everything on my xmas list was Steeler pennants, pajamas, hats, jackets, shirts, trash cans, helmets, posters etc. Every monday i would clip the boxscores from newspapers. I still have a full photo album with just about every steeler football card from bout 79-86. I kept some stuff but man i wish i would have saved all that stuff. Steelers got me through some very dark times as i knew no matter what i could watch them on Sundays🙂
Bill Nunn was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame as a contributor in 2021. As a Steelers Scout, 13 of his players who were drafted were also enshrined in the Hall of Fame.
@@499370mlwFunny how Tomlin comes from Noll's Tree and Has a Better Win Percentage than Noll and Cowher with LESS Draft Talent, A Cap Space and lack of Rule Changes. Noll couldn't win games with a Duck Hodges. Learn Football!! Keep in Mind it took How many HOF for Noll to just Win 4 Out of 23 Years.. So Nancy Your Feelings just sound like a Hatin Karen 😁😁
Pittsburgh had a black newspaper with a sports department. One of the reporters scouted college players and recommended players the Steelers should look at. He was so good at identifying talent the Steelers hired him as a scout.
@@josephmcfarland8442 Posthumously in 2021, Bill Nunn was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame as a contributor. As a Steelers Scout, 13 of his players who were drafted were also enshrined in the Hall of Fame.
I live in Cleveland and have been a Steelers fan for over 50 yrs. It started when my boyhood friend, who moved here from New Castle PA, asked me who my favorite NFL Team was. Back then, I was too young to really know anything about football so I said, I don't know, who's yours? He said the Steelers! I said, who are they, where do they play? He said, Pittsburgh and showed me a picture of Joe Greene and Jack Lambert. They had black helmets and jerseys and I said, OK, youre my friend so that's my favorite team too! The rest is history so to speak. I witnessed all 4 SB championships in the 70's and as I got older I understood more about the team, its ownership and values the Rooney's have and live by. I have been blessed to be a fan of the Steelers for most of my life and there is no Team in any sport that I care about more than them. So many great players, memories... I am forever thankful for that boyhood conversation.
I became a Steelers fan in 1975 at 5 yrs old, because I like there color. In 82'' at a parade in AZ, Roger Staubach was the grand Marshall he was riding a horse. 49:54 Im wearing a t-shirt with #12 on it, not a steelers shirt. He comes my way when he get to me, he bends down as I pet the horse on the nose and he says "Hey son, who is you favorite quarterback!" And I responded " TERRY BRADSHAW!" My father RIP, throw his head back and laughs with those around us. Roger Staubach trot off shaking his head laughing...haha! True story.
I think the 76 defense was better than the 75 defense. In 76 they had 5 shutouts and gave up only 3 points in 2 other games. That is a total of 6 points allowed in 7 games which was half the season. That is unreal.
Yes, but what did The 1974 Steeler Defense do to The Minnesota Viking Defense in Super Bowl IX? The 1974 Pittsburgh Steeler Defense does not get as much credit as it should! Ask Vikings Quarterback Fran Tarkenton and Vikings Running Back Chuck Foreman what was The License Number of That Truck that ran over them?
The 76 Steeler Defense had amazing statistics, so it is remembered as the best because of the incredible performance, especially after all the injuries at the beginning. But the 74 Defense was before Joe Greene got injured, and noone in the league could block him, (or Ernie Holmes)... The Raiders got 27 yds. rushing, the Vikings 17... Half of those offensive linemen are in the Hall of Fame... That domination speaks for itself. 74 was before the injuries, and the Defense crushed the best of the best.
As a lifelong (57 years) fan of the Dallas Cowboys and the Steelers was my most hated rival because of the two Super Bowls in the 70s we lost, my hatred has turned to respect! What a great matchup of two great defenses with the best nicknames the Steel Curtain vs Doomsday cmon, doesn't get better than that and both lived up to those monikers. It was simply two of the best Super Bowl games in history... hard-hitting and big plays and two teams who played their guts out. This was enjoyable to watch but still the old hurt from losing those games stings, but hey, if you had to lose then to lose to another all-time great squad...well, that is what it's all about. We managed to get one back in the 90's but we still owe you guys one and I hope before I leave this world we can get one more Steeler vs Cowboy Super Bowl. Lot of Hall of Famers in those two matchups and I have nothing but respect for those Steeler squads. Peace.
I think Jerry bought that SB ring!: He must have given O'Donnell an unGODly amount of money to throw those 2 interceptions to a guy who was over 10 yards away from the nearest receivers...
@@jimmyp9037 I hear ya, but hell we lost one in the 70's to you guys with a great tight end dropping a pass from Staubach right in his gut. Always plays that change the game, sometimes the pressure of the moment will make players make bad decisions, QB and WR have a different route in mind or a WR breaks off a route early etc. and it's a pick 6. Either way, I take nothing from those old Steeler teams as they were an all-time great team and I think the 70s was the greatest era ever in the NFL. When you go back and watch the greatest hits from the 70's you realize just how much more physical the game was back then. The players may be bigger, but they damn sure aren't tougher and they don't play with the same fire that they played with back then. The 70's made the NFL. Steelers, Cowboys, Dolphins, Raiders Vikings, Rams...some great teams some of them would have been dynasties had it not been for a couple of the teams that dominated.
If anything stands out about this franchise that commands the ultimate in respect is the fact that at 55 years old, this team has had only THREE head coaches in my entire lifetime. Growing up as and still being a New York Jets fan, you recognize the value of taking the time to select the right head football coach for your organization, and sticking with them. The stability of that instills and refines the mission and vision. That alone is priceless. I’m sure I’m not the only fan from other teams that recognize this. The childish envy you have as a younger fan toward winning teams gradually gives way to a profound respect and admiration that perhaps only fans from historically poorly run franchises, can understand and appreciate.

I grew up in Pittsburgh during the 60’s/70’s and the city was electric during these years. We all felt a certain pride. Chuck Noll and the Steelers put our city on the map.
No doubt! From 53:10 commentary starting with John Banaszak on - the commentary says it all. Hands down no contest the greatest front four ever. Probably best linebackers combo ever in Ham, Russell, and Lambert, and an all stud defensive backfield. Basically no weaknesses anywhere. Other than maybe 1984-85 Bears and 2000 Ravens, no one matches up against the Steel Curtain.
Absolutely love seeing Myron, he'll always be missed. Here we go Steelers!! Edit: Always wished the TV broadcast and the radio broadcast could be matched up back in the days of when TV's were just TV's without all the play features they have these days 😂😂
Looking back at the older broadcasts of the 70's, the pre-game and post-game shows, and the in-game shows were 100% better than nowadays. Back then your screen wasn't crammed full of💩💩crap💩💩! Plus back then the announcers actually knew what they were talking about. Monday Night Football was so much better than now. There may have been fewer games in the 70's but the sport was covered a LOT BETTER!
I've always been a steeler fan. I can remember out Sunday paper highlighted the steeler players of 1979 in full length color portraits that I laminated for my classroom. Everyone loved them. I wish I still had them
What really gets under my skin is seeing people compare that 70s Steelers defensive group to the 85 Bears, 2000 Ravens and the 2002 Bucs defenses. What they forget is that the aforementioned defenses were single season defenses whilst the 70 Steelers defensive group won FOUR Super Bowls in SIX seasons and produced FIVE Hall Of Famers (6 if you want to add Tony Dungy). This is arguably the greatest defence of all time and it is not even close and up for debate!
I was too young to see the 70s steelers but they were absolutely amazing. I grew up watching the 49ers in the 80s, they would not have beaten them. In my opinion the 70s steelers are the best ever
Chuck Noll, Tom Landry, Don Shula and Vince Lombardi were assistants under legendary owner/coach Paul Brown. The super bowl trophy should be named after Psul Brown imho. His former assistants won, participated in all of the first 12 super bowls.
In 68 I became a browns fan,I thought the Steelers was the joke of the league,Knoll came to town an boy did I eat my heart out thru the seventies,I did pull for the Steelers once they were in the SB,I have to say it was a time when a great group of men an fans alike all came together in a great an dominant way,I now look bk an appreciate the days of the steelers dynasty, the browns never made it to one damn super bowl,an my son has been a life long steelers fan go figure
i grew up there and it's no doubt more than football to the burgh. yet, i didn't know that bill nunn, from the courier, was hired as a scout. great docu.
You know I wish they followed those concepts today. I believe I can say this for all players and coaches. It's not about the game anymore. Show me the money... And also not so much drama. I'm fading away from the NFL. I don't like the direction they are heading. Even though I'm huge Steelers fan. This team needs a big time Tune- UP⁰
Do some research on this 70's dynasty. You look good and hard. The SPARK as far as personnel... Andy Russell a '63 draftee. He transitioned from bad times into IT.. Then a GLUE kept them Thru... L.C. Greenwood. Greenwood and Russell BOTH need HOF jackets! #6 PB's L.C. & #7 Andy. C'mon -who is running that Canton, OH thing?
Totally agree, Greenwood and Russell should be in the HOF. Wagner should also be in the HOF. I can remember him picking off passes all the time and especially at times it was really needed. I remember back in 74, 75 & 76, pretty much the whole defensive starters for the AFC pro bowl wore black helmets. The AFC wore red and white and the NFC wore blue and white uniforms but everybody wore their teams helmets. Greene, Greenwood, Russell, Lambert, Ham, Blount and Wagner were the starters and Edwards, White and Holmes were backups. Those were the days to be a Steeler fan.
BS and pro-Steeler suck-up writer Dddinger. He incorrectly stated the narrative they declined in the 80s - it happened in one season bro! After the SB 79'! 😆 OAK did not decline after 79', we won 2 SBs and were in playoff championship football til 85! Stop with the wussing! Even Nolls wife said he admitted 'they were no longer hitting on #1 draft choices or personnel and had become an issue'. Please stop with the violin! 😆. PITT gave up - Al continued his vision after his own 79' demise and kept OAK mystique till 85'
oh, they were the worst team or at least one of them until they started drafting in the 70's. I remember Bradshaw used to throw so many picks when he first was drafted lol
I would have love to seen the respect given to Coach Dan 'Bad Rad' Radakovich. The architect of the 'Steel Curtain', if there is any videos that contain that please let me know.
I grew up in Boston area..I played football because of the Steelers and Raiders. This is what football is all about. Pittsburg, Lambert Oakland Villipiano
Cj stroud is going to get rookie of the year. He is having a year most veteran qbs hope to have. Yeah i dont like how Kenny is playing atm but he shows glimpses of greatness. I think he thinks too much. Because he shows up when necessary in the 4th.
I know that the best thing the Steelers ever did was hire Chuck Noll, but the real best thing the Steelers ever did was to hire Bill Nunn because he create the Steelers dynasty of 1970s including the 1974 NFL draft that includes Jack Lambert, John Stallworth, Lynn Swann, Mike Webster, and Donnie Shell.
As a little kid growing up during the 70's I was not a fan of the Steelers or the Raiders. I still don't like the Raiders to this day. It was more of a friendly rivalry with my best buddy who I was growing up with. See he liked the Steelers, and I, oh I can't believe that I'm admitting this, I actually liked the Vikings. Being a Lifelong native of Wisconsin, saying that is not a popular topic....lol. However as a kid, I was only 7 or 8, I was a huge Fran Tarkenton, Chuck Foreman, Sammy White, and Ahmad Rashad fan. I was a Fran fan? A fan of Fran? Fran's fan? Sorry. Once I got older and I started to learn and see what the Steelers team had accomplished and had been able to achieve, I had some time to rethink my position. Plus by then I had lost my ability to cheer for the Vikings...lol. I may be a Packers fan, but I am also a Football fan. I love the game, whether it's the NFL, NCAA, WFL, the CFL, or even the old defunct USFL, I love to watch football, and as a fan of the sport you have to respect a franchise like the Steelers, and yes even the Raiders, as well as the Vikings and even the Bears. They've all have been great at some point, and they've all had some incredibly talented, iconic and legendary players. The Steelers definitely have that covered. From Terry Bradshaw, Franco Harris, Lynn Swann, John Stallworth, LC Greenwood and that entire Steel Curtain, they were a force to be reckoned with! There are a lot more players who I didn't mention. That entire team was phenomenal! Fast, agile, powerful, intelligent, innovative, brutal, and again incredibly talented, the Steelers had it all. Their rivalry with the ⭐🤠Dallas⭐Cowboys🤠⭐ were some of the most iconic, amazing, and legendary games ever seen. Plus the Steelers vs. Browns, Bengals, and Raiders? All were hard nosed and tough games. If your a football fan you have to respect the legacy of the Steelers franchise!
Mike Webster was tough and smashed his way to a Hall of Fame career, 4 Super Bowl Championships, and severe CTE! He was the sentinel case; number one case discovered by Dr. Bennett Omalu, World-Renowned Neuropathologist. CTE is incurable and cannot be prevented with new helmets or new rules! CTE is caused by American Tackle Football. The NFL causes 94% of players to die with and from CTE; this dooms the future of football!
Villipiano is just a sore loser. PERIOD. I'm sick and tired of whining Oakland fans. Tatum hit the Ball, Harris caught it and the Steelers won. Give it up
Nice show but they blew by way too much history in the first 6 minutes. Of course, there really was not much to share. It really started when Noll aririved. It cracks me up how everyone who comments has a Steelers helmet by their name. 100% of the time John Madden will have a Raiders helmet next to his name, not a Steelers one. Peter King a Writer for SI? Sports Illustrated does have a logo too. The 70s teams were very good, but they also were lucky with breaks. The only Super Bowl they dominated was the January 1975 game with the Vikings. They easily could have lost the other three, yes easily. Funny how they totally blew off the 1995 season. The team has always had great management.
Seems someone needs a box of tissues. Doesn't matter who you are, the Superbowl Champions every year need to be good, lucky and get some breaks. So your attempt at trying to make a point failed, badly. Most Superbowl winners could have easily lost the game so again, another failed point. Don't see one Steeler helmet next to anyone's name so AGAIN, WTF are you talking about? If they do, it only means they are proud of their team. The Steelers have one of if not the biggest fan bases in the league. I live in Southern California and there are Steeler fans everywhere. Many bars that come Sunday, have hundreds of people wearing only the black and gold, coming to watch the game. The 70's Steelers were the best and most complete football team in the history of the game. How many 49ers have 4 rings? Montana, and maybe a few others but not many. How many Patriots have 4? Brady has 6 but again, how many have at least 4? Not to many if just a couple. Now how many Steelers have 4? Practically the whole team that played back then that's how many. My point is there were several different teams who won all those Superbowls for New England and San Francisco but mostly just one team that won Pittsburgh's first 4. Both the offense and defense were pretty much the same for all 4 championships. Only the Dallas Cowboy franchise can come close to saying that with 3. But that wasn't mostly the same team either. The first two was but there were several changes with they won the 3rd one. 10 Hall of Famers were on that team at the same time. Greenwood, Russell and Wagner all should be in it too. The Steelers could have easily won in 95 if O'Donnell didn't throw where there wasn't anybody but a Dallas DB and if Pittsburgh would have run the ball in the second half more. They started to run all over Dallas in the second half. So there has been a lot of Superbowls that could have gone one way or another with "what if's." It is played by the two best teams of that year and most are not dominated by one team or another. The important thing is who has the most points when the whistle blows. 4 times in 6 years back in the 70's, it was the Pittsburgh Steelers. Madden will have a Raiders helmet next to his instead of a Steelers one? WTF? Your whole comment is WTF and pointless. That is what cracks everybody else up and that is funny. hahahahhahahha
@@kirk4086 Should you get him a box of tissues or should I? The money is on him being a Cleveland Browns fan. Zero Superbowl wins for them. Could possibly be a Raider or Cowboy fan. All of those fan bases are very jealous of the Steelers.

We moved from Pittsburgh to Florida when I was 10 in "74 and had to watch 4 SB wins from there. Most in south Florida hated my Steelers but we always came through. It was especially great for me in '79 when the Pirates and Steelers were both champions.
