The lyric is actually "Peg, it will come back to you". Here the singer is referring to the photograph or the deed in the photograph that she'll ultimately regret. One of the deepest rabbit holes in music from what is perhaps America's greatest band. SD actually needs to be listened to using a lyric video because their lyrics are adult, witty, smart (sometimes too smart for their own good), and occasionally obscure. My favorites by them are "Black Cow", "Kid Charlemagne","Aja", "Deacon Blues", the entire "Aja" album, "Hey Nineteen", “The Fez”, “Green Earrings”, "Do It Again", "Reelin' In The Years", "Babylon Sisters","Dirty Work", "Rikki Don't Lose That Number", "Don't Take Me Alive", "My Old School", "Any Major Dude Will Tell You", and "Doctor WU. There are many more because there's really no bad Steely Dan song.
Finally someone who isn’t an idiot that thinks this song is about the late actress Peg who jumped off the Hollywood sign and died before her big break.
@@helgar791 Actually my interpretation based on interviews with Walt & Don and my own theories is that Peg broke his heart and he is saying “it will come back to you” like you’ll get yours one day, not going to be famous forever. Then he goes even further by saying that in fact she’ll get kicked out of Hollywood and wind up doing porn because in the 70s porn was apparently a lot of foreign films and they were played in 3D in the theaters often.
Legend Chuck Rainey on bass. They told him "No Slap!". He even put on flatwound strings but come chorus he couldn't help himself. Tastefully slapped the whole chorus and they loved it.
Love Steely Dan & it's 70's vibes, which was piped over the radio throughout my childhood. Song Info: "This song is about an aspiring actress named Peg -which is short for Peggy or Margaret - with the director/photographer promising her a big break." "The lyrics of Peg are believed to be based on Peg Entwistle, the Welsh-born Broadway star ..." Glad you enjoyed groovin' on out to this timeless classic ✌️
One of the best bands of all time. Can't go wrong with any of their songs.( "Do It Again" , "Deacon Blues", "FM", "Josie" and "Hey Nineteen" are all great)
The singer in Steely Dan is Donald Fagan, whorls voice is quite distinctive in tone. Interestingly, it’s really a duo with the late Walter Becker, an instrumentalist who collaborated on the songs with Donald. Although, Walt has passed on, Donald has started touring again as Steely Dan. The band is always a combo of top tier quality studio & jazz musicians who have always brought the band leaders’ ideas into fruition in the studio, & totally nail it in live stage performances.
i'm suggesting Little River Band "Reminiscing" "Lady" "Cool change" "Happy anniversary" "lonesome loser" "It's a long way there" "Help is on the way" "Night owls" "Take it easy on me"
@@mrmockatoo6786 Well truth be told, I am actually dying ( doesn't that suck for me ). Mine was just a harmless compliment, that's all ! These long distance flirtations never usually amount to anything. So I wouldn't worry about it ! Have a good one !
@@mrmockatoo6786 Diognosed with COPD, Lymphoma and Sarcodosis next month will be two yrs ago. Then the insurance company dropped me. Though I'm probably not going to drop dead tomorrow. I have a little more on my plate then the average 56 yr old. Not looking for sympathy, just stating facts. No rain on no parade. Have a good one !
Soooo many Dan tunes to react to. Any and all songs from the Aja album (my favorite is the title track), Hey Nineteen, Babylon Sisters, Kid Charlemagne, Time out of Mind... just such a great band.
Steely Dan is such a treat to listen to. Their songs are so smooth and rhythm filled. Donald Fagen's solo recordings are fantastic also. I really like "H Gang".
Oh 😂 yes 1977, I believe first heard it on my parents car radio, was little then but oh yes remember I was hooked on steely dan music . Did you ever do deacon blues. Hey nineteen.
Steely Dan has done great music for years. 1972, "Reelin in the Years", "Dirty Work", "Do it Again", 1974, "Rikki Don't Lose That Number". "Peg" is from the Aja album, 1977. "Deacon Blues" and "Black Cow" are other great songs from that album. There's more recent ones as well. My favorite band and best concert I ever attended.
I've always liked this song, just a fun tune. Peg It will come back to you Peg It will come back to you Then the shutter falls You see it all in 3-D It's your favorite foreign movie
This is from the Aja album! It is considered on of the best albums of it’s time and genre in so many respects. Please review the song Aja and Black Cow… Thanks again for your bright and beautiful insight and musical Spirit.
Love how at 2:48 youre about to pause it and then the guitar solo kicks in. In that moment, you intuitively knew not to interrupt there just yet! lol Great reaction as always Angela! :)
Donald & Walter always auditioned a gazillion guys before settling on a 🎸 Guitarist but they had only 1 Michael McDonald to just 😂 loop the hell out of! 😏 I was always startled when I'd hear female backing vocals on SD! 😁🐰
I first heard Steely Dan in 1973 on the radio, a song called Rikki don’t lose that number! I knew the minute I heard that song that this band was going to be generational! I have seen Steely Dan in concert over a dozen times and it is exciting every time I see them!
Angela, you seem to enjoy sad or sentimetal songs. you might like to try a few from the Beatles. the ones that come to mind are In my life, here there and everywhere, she's leaving home, and The long and winding road. Enjoy
Thank you for your reaction!! "Hey 19", "Rikki Don't Lose That Number" and "Deacon Blues" are all good songs to try! Also "Nothing Compares 2U" by Sinnead O'Connor, "I'm Not In Love" by 10CC, "Never Tear Us Apart" by INXS, and if you are willing to ever do a full album request (even if you do it one song at a time) consider "Crime of the Century" LP by Supertramp. If you would rather just have song recommendations start with "School"! Keep up the amazing work you do on this channel - you are a rising star in the music reaction biz!!
Since you like the horns, try checking out Steely Dan", "Deacon Blues" or some older Chicago, like "Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is", or "Just You And Me".
Jazz chords out the wazoo in an impossibly catchy, fun song. Enjoyable to watch you enjoying it. You're adorable...and I knew you remembered something when you started snapping your fingers at the part you remembered. Fun reaction!
So glad you said you like the horns,..enough said,..say no more, more SD on the way!,.."My Old School", Babylon Sisters, Hey Nineteen,. Peg is on the Aja LP,..Black Cow,.Deacon Blues, I Got The News, Josie are also on the same album, then huh there's Fagen's solo work, also first class,..Nightfly Album with, I.G.Y., and Ruby(real swinger), then what may have put him on the road to solo, he did a song for the Heavy Metal soundtrack "True Companion"(by the by monster album, so many great bands, artists, BOC, Blue Oyster Cult, Nazareth, Don Felder from The Eagles, Grand Funk Railroad, Black Sabbath, Stevie Nicks, Sammy Hagar,) I could see right off you were surprised, I thought it was because you didn't think you were gonna like it as much as you obviously do, do keep going, Stephen Bishop, another talent, "Save It For A Rainy Day (also horns 🙂), On and On, It Might Be You,.think the last two were in a movie,..been so long ago,..maybe Tootsie?,..check it,..enjoy,.Godspeed, Peace ✌
Okay... I was LITERALLY thinking "shit... can she get more 'Something about Mary' here?" And then I scrolled and saw this song as a reaction. Its NOT EVEN FAIR!!!!! 🤣🤣🤣
You really are going to live Steely Dan. I also know you love Michael McDonald. He was a part of this band briefly before the Doobie Brothers. He has a knockout background vocal on their album Aja called, TIME OUT OF MIND. It is a sharp driving sound that was their last blast of greatness before the 2o sabbatical that followed. You will also enjoy JOSIE, FM, MY OLD SCHOOL, REELING IN THE YEARS and other brain scrambling lunacy that identifies the bands danceable fun.
Hey , love your reactions , was curious if you heard "hey nineteen" by steely dan ? I would like to see your reaction to this song, thank you . Keep up the good work 💪
There isn't really a "band" "Steely Dan", there are two core members - the singer, primary writer, and usually keyboards, Donald Fagen; and guitarist and writer, Walter Becker. As for the rest, they hand-picked specific studio players for individual songs. Depending on the mix there might be 6 to 10 players per song. Some would play on just one song, others maybe several per album. So they could easily have 20 to 30 musicians spread over maybe 8 - 12 tracks. Perfectionists without getting out of control. They do jazz/fusion but they can also do some gritty high energy rock. Try the studio version of, "My Old School"!))
Steely Dan is one of the greatest bands to ever walk this Earth along with the Beatles, Queen, Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, Rush, Pink Floyd Lynyrd Skynyrd, The Allman Brothers, Grateful Dead, David Bowie, the Eagles... there are more but these listed are the cream of the crop!!! speaking of cream we can add the band "Cream" to that list!!!🎼👍🎵👌🎼✌🎶😎
