I don’t know if he was my favorite or not, but he was the perfect foil to Skunk Baxter. I’d hate to have to choose between those two guys. But really I dig all of the Steely Dan guitarists over the years-including those who played mostly rhythm guitar. And we could broaden the discussion-the guys they hired to play on their recordings (after disbanding the original group) were just some of best musicians around. Pretty Purdie, Chuck Rainey, Joe Sample, Victor Feldman-the list just goes on and on.
That was a very memorable Steely Dan solo -- there's an outtake of this where you can hear Donald Fagen in the background yelling "Holy F**k! That was great!" Keep up the good work, sir!!
