Bechstein, Bosendorfer, fazioli....these are not "alternatives". They are the best 3 pianos in the world.

I haven’t heard one in real life, but they sound better and more balanced than almost anything in recordings. And M&H are built like a tank: much heavier than other pianos of the comparable lengths.

I'm glad Robert mentioned Pearl River, speaking from experience. About 2 months ago I was piano shopping. I tried a Yamaha GB1K, and it was exactly what you'd expect - plenty good for the price. I was HIGHLY skeptical of this Pearl River next to it, and it wasn't very good - but it was a used model, so it was a little older. They brought in a new Pearl River GP-160 the next week, and... woah. Legitimately good. Shockingly so. It was easily my favorite, and it was almost 40% less than the Yamaha. So if you're looking at a Yamaha, get over the name on the fall board and try a Pearl River! What you'll find might surprise you...

I much prefer Kawai over Yamaha. I almost purchased a Kawai but found a great deal on a rebuilt Mason & Hamlin AA instead. I find Mason & Hamlin and Steinway very comparable with only the slightest edge going to Steinway. My dream piano, however, is a Fazioli.

Am I the only one who hears how terribly bad Yamaha sound /and/ Kawai sound is? If Yamaha is lead, then Kawai is painted lead. The only Kawai that sounds good (and very good) is that massive grand of their, Shigeru or so.

What you said about the Bösendorfer, does it actually apply to their modern VC series? I don't know but I doubt it.
@frazzledude
@frazzledude Месяц назад
I own a Bosendorfer imperial grand that was manufactured in 1993. It is a wonderful instrument. Bosendorfer was bought by Yamaha in 2008 and is now fully owned by them. The VC (Vienna Concert) series were introduced in 2012. Yamaha sent their engineers from Japan to Austria to design the VC series of pianos. To me, they sound like a Yamaha piano, not a Bosendorfer. The Bosendorfer 280 VC sounds very much like a Yamaha CFX. So, instead of buying a Bosendorfer 280 VC, why not just buy a Yamaha CFX? In my opinion, for what it's worth, if you want to buy a Bosendorfer piano, get a used one in good condtion that was made before 2008.
@worldofai-games1036
@worldofai-games1036 Месяц назад
The only Bosendorfer pianos that didn’t get the VC mod are the 225 and the 290 imperial. Unfortunately, these models are now in limited production and they mostly market the VC models especially the 185, 214, 230, and 280. Yamaha owning Bosendorfer resulted in a cross exchange of ideas. Bosendorfer features made it to Yamaha’s CF series and Yamaha features made it to Bosendorfer’s VC models
@jpdurr
@jpdurr Месяц назад
@@worldofai-games1036 They also have the Grand Piano 200 that is not a VC model. So they have 5 VC models, and 3 "Traditional" Models. One is the Imperial. That shows to me where they think their customers should be headed. They are giving customers choice, Traditional "Old" or Modern "New" versions of their Pianos.

Do you run into situation where people want a piano no one makes anymore enough to do a video on that? I can't remember the brand of the piano I grew up with but it was from between the early 1900s and 1920s. The problem I have is that every modern piano is super overkill for me and ruins the kind of music I write. Even when it was the only piano I ever played, I still had trouble with the bass overpowering everything and too much sustain. The one I have now and want to keep for the rest of my life is from bell with 2 strings per note, 77 keys, a 3 quarter plate and the sound it produces is magical so I can finally write for my own instrument instead of the one in my head and I just got a stool for it today. It has a broken string, dead bass strings, doesn't hold a tune and the finish is almost gone but it's in playable condition so I at least get to play it for the time being until I have to perform major repairs.

You could try a Keybird, a lightweight portable single strung piano from Denmark. It weighs 130 pounds and has 69 keys.
@user-lh3uz1cp7y
@user-lh3uz1cp7y Месяц назад
@@naturedesignbc I looked at it and although I think it's a wonderful idea that shows what the piano would be as just an instrument without unnecessary parts and should have been around much sooner, it doesn't suit my needs. The strings still cross, you can't close it to make it quieter which is important for me as I already have hearing damage, it's missing the nine keys above the last C that I need since I write classical music for a 77 key piano and the website has no technical information so I can't learn the details I need to make a purchasing decision. I have already found the piano I want so my search for a piano is over and a new search for what I need to restore it has begun.

Baldwin stopped producing pianos in the early 2000s. The rights to the name was bought by Gibson, the guitar company. They import pianos from several Chinese companies and stencil on the Baldwin name. They are not the same scale design as the great Artist Series grand pianos of years past.

@@bartwatts1921 it's the name only all new pianos sound alike. If you compare aged sound boards, ivory keys has nothing to do with sound but it's the dividing line between new and old. Even older Yamahas sound better than their newer counterpart. I'm sorry I like the old sound grew up with it. These wiper snappers haven't heard the old sound. My piano tuner rebuild a parler Steinway and I got to play it when I was at his home the sound just was there. Not anything like the new ones. He did his own voicing. He even told me he put a hole in one of the hammers, have no clue why. I never learned the art of voicing but I do have the tool by Hale. Have to be careful going in my piano bag not to get stuck my the one end. It's in felt but you can still get a prick out of it regardless. 73
