Stelara is an injectable prescription medication and is considered a specialty medication due to it's high cost. It can be used for four different indications.
This is part of my 101 series where I cover the basics of Stelara including uses, side effects, dosing and - at the end of the video - I cover options you have to deal with the high cost.

Here is my dilemma: I've been on Stelara since about 2012/13 for severe psoriasis. It has worked miracles for me. Early on I happened to notice it also worked miracles on my Crohn's Disease and was eventually approved for it so I could go to a higher dosage. It is the only drug my system tolerates. I have had major anaphylaxis to all the other biologics by process of elimination. I also react to all vaccines so cannot be immunized. Getting help to offset the incredible co-pay for Advantage/ medicare patients like myself is extremely difficult. Much easier is financial help for a newer drug called Skyrizi. I have already been accepted by their foundation which means I can get the drug for free in 2023. The Stelara assistance application is taking much longer with no assurances I will be accepted. Skyrizi works differently which has me concerned about the anaphylaxis my system is prone to. It's my understanding that Stelara works by blocking two proteins IL23 & IL 12. Skyrizi by binding to excess IL 23. Which drug is considered more effective for Crohn's?

I see more stelara but what is ‘better’ would be very patient dependent. In short, you don’t know until you try it

@@AskCurtis For me knowing that Stelara works, Skyrizi for me would be like diving into a swimming pool that could be empty. That's a big risk!

how old are you? are you in your late 50s or older? severe psoriasis? who decided you wanted to take this drug; and are you aware of the laundry list of side effects and potential damage it has already caused ; yet you are unaware of it yet? just curious why people take medication that is commercialized?
@hopeemch
@hopeemch Год назад
@@ChickenMcThiccken Why do I ? Because it isn't just about psoriasis. I have Crohn's Disease as well and without Stelara I would be in hospital on a feeding tube totally unprotected because I can 't be vaccinated either. I would probably die there. I did my due diligence and discovered Stelara on my own . Went to my doctor with the request. I've had anaphylactic shock reactions to all drugs and vaccines except Stelara. It works differently from all the rest and my system has tolerated it for years without any side effects whatsoever. Would that I could do without the heavy duty biologics but too many antibiotics after surgery destroyed my immune system and luckily I found Stelara to save my life. I am carefully monitored for possible damage and so far my tests are A Plus. I'm 81and lead a totally independent life . I credit Stelara.

My gastro dr has just stated I will be getting stelara infused into me for my horrible Crohn’s disease in Australia. He said it’s a very good drug and been around our country for 15 years and targets the very specific area of my Crohn’s unlike the SMP I’ve currently been taking for 12 years now and it’s not working. I pray to god it works so I can have a happier life and be more healthier.fingers crossed.

I suffer from psoriatic spondylitis The greatest impact and pain is in the sacroiliac joint, neck, mid-back, tendons, ligaments, plantar fascia, Achilles tendon, and Kervain tendon. The disease caused chronic, non-specific enteritis and terrible pain I started using Simponi and it yielded no results for me My doctor discussed switching to Stelara or something else, but I've seen many reports of Stelara not working in psoriatic arthritis. Of the axial type, the spinal column and the iliac joint Does Stelara work for tendinitis, spine, iliopsoas joint, and bowel syndrome?

@tomhardy9850 So sorry that you suffer from those problems,Tom. May I please ask the following since you are a fellow sufferer: My rheumatologist had me on Humira but it’s not working as he would like. He wants to put me on Stelara. I have ulcerative colitis, ankylosing spondylitis and psoriatic arthritis; also, psoriasis everywhere, even in my ears and on face. Both the UC and psoriatic arthritis are common with AS. I have ALL the side effects of AS and then some, far too many to list here. A genetic blood condition prevents me from taking NSAIDs. Is your psoriatic spondylitis related to my AS? You mention that this biologic has failed in pain trials. That’s the #1 reason I went to this dr. So you’re saying it’s not primarily for pain? Or rather, hasn’t performed well in trials? This sounds much more harsh than Humira. Have you been on Humira? Thanks for any info. I was given a booklet to read put out by the drug company. It paints a more rosy picture, of course. I have two weeks to decide what to do. I can’t take this pain. Last night I sobbed due to pain bc it was so bad. I’m at my wit’s end. I don’t seem to do much of anything except sleep of late. Newbie. Been on Humira about 2 1/2 months. Have had symptoms about 50 years. No one had put all the pieces of this puzzle together until five or so years ago. On heavy duty meds but they don’t touch the “10-on-the-pain- scale” days. (Didn’t take a biologic before now as I had latent TB in early 20s. But tested negative w/ blood test and no signs of scarring on lungs now. Apparently the med I took in my 20s cleared everything up or it was a miracle. Very odd turn of events, anyway.) I’d appreciate any advice/ comments. Have you been on Stelara for 9 months now? How is it going? Thanks again for anything you can tell me about your experience.

@@southernlady5085 How are you my friend There is a type of psoriatic arthritis called spondylitis, which is very similar to spondylitis, axial symptoms and everything The important thing is that Stelara has never given me results for back pain. In your case, Stelara may be good for skin psoriasis and intestinal inflammation. That is why it is preferable for you to try Humira because it helps in all the conditions that you have. I want you to insist on taking Humira because it is the best in these cases.
