My name is Curtis Alexander and I'm a pharmacist. I talk about prescription medications, supplements, herbals and everything in between. I really enjoy natural health and a lot of my videos will talk about things I've discovered in my own journey.
The information on this channel is just that: information. Take it or leave it. It is not medical advice. If you need medical advice you should talk to your personal health care provider.
my vitamin C test result was 1.7 mg/L, the reference value being 4.6 to 15.0 mg/L. Always eating salad, lime juice. I have hashimoto's hypothyroidism and also elevated reverse T3, probably due to a high level of stress, resulting in cortisol at 8 am 25.28 ug/dL, the reference value being 5.27 - 22.45 ug/dL. Would supplementation with 500mg of vitamin C be interesting in this case, to support the adrenal glands and control cortisol, or do you think it would have too much impact on ceruloplasmin and affect thyroid function? And could these vitamin C tests, as it is highly reactive, possibly be wrong? My girlfriend's was also very low at 1.2mg/L. and I thought that instead of taking a vitamin C supplement, introduce 85% chocolate for its anti-stress action, who knows, maybe it would balance things out more.
@AskCurtis thanks for the insightful comment, I already exercise and eat in a very healthy way for tyreoid function. You are right, no suplements will take me out of this stressful lifestyle in the big city. For now I'm going to focus on meditation and digital detox, and soon moving to the countryside. Any thoughts or experience on cold shower for hypothyroidism (brown fat stuff, etc)?
In a low metabolic state I would not do cold shower. Try to focus on decreasing the stressors in your control as much as possible (diet, sleep, light environment, etc.). Meditation and digital detox are great starts 👍
Thanks Curtis for taking the time to make these videos! Question on the fats you eat. If your eating grass fed beef for example one day for your protein source, then what would your fat consumption look like since you would subtract the fat from the beef for your total calories.
You're welcome Zac. I don't track calories hardly at all anymore but ... I did so for long enough that I have a pretty good eye for how much fat I'm getting. If I have something like grass fed beef I may back off my other fat sources the next day by not having eggs for breakfast or less full fat milk. The other part of that is listening to your cravings. For example, there are times where I really crave beef which I think is my body's way of telling me I might need a bit more fat. So I don't get too concerned about it. Hopefully that answers your question.
Ibhad similar experience. started on keto a few months ago. The reason was that my A1 C was high normal which i found strange since i am athletic , thin and generally eat healthy. Not yet prediabetic but too close. After several weeks on keto my morning and night blood glucose rose . even though i stopped having spikes since i excluded most carbs, the average level rose. I lost several pounds which was not intended. Sleep qualify went down . I simply could not understand as i expected everything to improve. Now starting to reintroduce cars but the spikes follow each intake. Have CGM so i can see it in detail. Terrifying to see a massive blood glucose spike after eating an apple but i guess keto is not for me. I made it worse.
Spikes (within reason) are normal. I am more concerned about how people's bodies respond to spikes. Couple of other thoughts - some fruits don't agree with people as much so maybe try other ones. Also, make sure to eat fruit with a bit of fat and protein. Can help balance out some of those spikes (i.e., some fruit with a bit of cheese).
@@AskCurtis thank you! Will follow this advice. The problem with spikes is that it followed by drops to very low levels and made me feel terrible, shaky , weak and hungry. Keto gets rid of those but introduces another problem. Also on keto seemed to have less energy for high intensity cardio. Hoping to find a balance one day.
I estimate that I'd had the Hep C for 6-7 months until I had access to this medicine. A couple of weeks before starting the treatment, I was feeling pain on the side. It went away less than a week after I started taking the pills. I just want to be realistic about my future. I know the treatment is very effective, but I'm worried as to what damage was caused during that time. Any idea about my prognosis?
I’ve been having symptoms similar to panic attacks or an arrhythmia. I went to the cardiologist, and I’ve wore the holter, and did a stress test. Everything looked normal. My symptoms seem to be happening more often. My cardiologist just prescribed this stuff for me to take only when having symptoms, and I’m going to wear the holter again for a week. I just don’t understand being prescribed this stuff if, at least so far my heart seems okay. I’m not a big fan of taking meds, especially taking meds for something that I may not have. I’m torn on if I should try them. On one hand, when my symptoms happen, it is horrible, and I feel like I’m about to pass out, so if this would help take that feeling away, maybe it’s worth it. On the other hand I really don’t like taking meds that might not be what I need. Any advice?
I was on Losartan 25 mg for a year with few noticeable side effects except a UTI that I have never had before but after 1 year when I got a new prescription for Losartan, the pill looked different. The old pill was round. The new pill is oblong. This new pill gave me a minor, consistent cough and shortness of breath. My doctor did not believe that it was the losartan but had me cut the dose in half and the cough and shortness of breath got better. He then had me stop Losartan altogether and the cough and shortness of breath went away entirely in about a week. I am just borderline for hypertension so my doctor thought I would be okay without any blood pressure medication.
Great info. Here's a question for you, I'm a 68 yr young female, what would cause instant rise in body temp as soon as I wake up and move BEFOE even getting out of bed in thy morning? Much like that of a hot flash but not the same. Hor glasses have been give for a while. Thanks in advance.
Be very, very careful with ginkgo billoba !!! I took it and developed this yellow-green bruise on my shin. After it stayed longer than a usual bruise, I asked one of my docs about it. He wanted to know what I was taking as he knew I liked a good balance of alternative medicine with conventional medicine. I gave him the list and he spotted it very quickly. Ginkgo Biloba !!! He told me not to ever take that again. He said he had seen a similar result in one of his family members who had tried it and he would not recommend it to anyone. I went home and threw the stuff away. Guess what? In 3 days it was already starting to fade. I have taken other things which thin the blood as I am an ischemic stroke victim. Never had any problem with anything except the Ginkgo. The doc said I was just very fortunate that it revealed itself in a way I would noticed it before something bad happened. It could have been a hemorrhage that wasn't visible !
I have anti phospholipid anticoagulant antibodies, found out about this blood disorder September of2023. My hair is falling out, I am having some joint pain, i loose my balance easily i fell a week ago,i stay tired .i don't want to take it anymore, I Rather take a aspirin.

I am four months off of Cymbalta, and I'm considering taking this now. It has been very hard coming off of Cymbalta. I've tried taking various supplements with marginal success. I just wish I could get out of these negative thought loops and not feel things so sharply. I'm worse now than I ever was before taking Cymbalta! 0/10 do not recommend.
I was prescribed baclofen for chronic pain for just 2-3 weeks when I was in hospital, and then the doctor abruptly stopped it. I knew nothing about baclofen, so did not expect any issues. But within 12 hours i started to experience a wide range of distressing withdrawal symptoms (headaches, agitation / extreme anxiety, increased pain, chronic diarrhoea, insomnia)...I had also been on a low dose of dihydrocodeine, so i initially presumed I was withdrawing from that, but the drs stated it wasnt possible for me to be in withdrawal. Once i got home and did some research on baclofen and found that it could cause withdrawal. It lasted approx 10 days, and it was horrific. The hospital refuse to admit to any negligence, but in my medical notes they claim to have tapered me off baclofen!!! I am trying to find legal representation as I know they were clinically negligent and put me through hell. I will never touch the stuff again in my life!
I have AS and developed antibodies against Humira and Embrel, switched to Cosentyx and it made everything good. I changed insurance and stopped the cosentyx slowly by weaning off. I'm not on anything now! I've been med free for the AS since 2021! There could be a connection between cholesterol and inflammation too.
I’ve been taking Rinvoq for about 2 yrs and honestly it’s been a game changer, if I stop taking it for 2 days I’ve noticed my pain coming right back, but as soon as I take it again with in a few hours my pain starts to go away. But just recently my doctor prescribed me both Rinvoq and Hydroxychloroquine due to my Lupus so will how that works…
Seriously. All you experts really need to study Dr D/Adamo. CERTAIN BLOOD TYPES cannot take much anti-inflammatory supps at all as their blood is ALREADY very thin. Blood type O is one, at least one division of O. ALL ANTI-INFLAMMATORIES/ Omega 3's THIN the blood, whether natural or man--made.
Always combine nattokinase supplements with vitamin K2 - problem solved! What they actually do, when they produce nattokinase supplements, is purge it of naturally occuring K2 so that people on Warfarin can use the supplements. If you do not use warfarin go ahead and supplements with K2 and bleeding disorders will not be a thing. Actual natto dish is rich in both nattokinase and K2.

Thanks Curtis for the useful information. I saw several studies linking glycine and serine to cancer (an example is a study below) - what is your take on this? My hand to God, I had a softball sized bruise forming from a accident cutting wood. I could barely walk 100 yards to the house, instead of ICE, I grabbed my PEMF device, ran the frequency for bruises,(4 hours strait) and the next day you could not see, or feel any bruise. I now understand what Chinese medicine is talking about then they say disease or injury first occurs in the light body then becomes physical.. PEMF, Like it never happened;)
The only side effect Ive had with PEMF , I was almost walking in a dream like state for 24 hrs, but that was after12hrs of strait use with a full mat.. Of course in my mind, the dream state of Theta state I was walking around in was beneficial for me...
