Stellar Blade being as good as it is, outside of all the sexy meme stuff, has got to be one of the biggest surprises of the year. Even moreso than say Lies or P was last year. Stellar Blade had no right being as good as it is. For a lot of people it's going to be one of the GOTY.

Speaking of playing as animals etc on the Maneater subject, have you guys played Deadly Creatures? I would love a remaster of that game to make the environments and bugs look more realistic

Idk why people are comparing this to any souls like. The only thing it has in common is that resting refills your set amount of "Estus flasks" and revives non boss enemies. That's it. - It doesn't have a currency that's lost upon death and can be regained. - You don't level base attributes as in soulslikes. Instead, you have upgradable skills that you don't have in soulslikes. - combat is combo based and uses a queued action system. Where dark souls and most soulslike have combat where most actions can be canceled out of by dodge or parry. And attacks are freely strung together without set combos. In stellar blade the combat will feel bad if you try to free-form combos like a soulslike. There are set combos and the queued action system means a combo like Triangle, square, square, Triangle. You do not need to time the inputs with the Animation of the attack. ( you don't have to wait for a strike to land before hitting next input) you can just hit all four in quick succession and will be hitting 4th input as you 3rd attack is just starting and the rest of combo plays out, with entire 4th attack happening a moment after you have already finished inputting combo.

I think the game is closer to the newer God of War games than a souls like. The Beta and Burst skils are basically your fire/ice runic attacks, it even has a spartan rage equivalent that you unlock later on.

That looming depth of field/shadow was one of the fatal flaws for me I just gave up very very early, the biggest is how terrible the menus feel so horribly unresponsive feeling

1:47:14 I am super excited about metaphor whatever but I think game devs should understand this. Showing big empty field with nothing is not appealing anymore. That empty field looks really uninteresting. Also no more buying Atlus game on day one. There will be metaphor whatever whatever version in the future most likely.

I’m enjoying Another Crab’s Treasure more than Stellar Blade… it has way better exploration and tension and not too many combat mechanics. The humor in the story is just great too, while Stellar Blades story was meh. So far I give Stellar Blade a 7 and Another Crabs Treasure an 8.

I dont think removing run backs from Souls-Likes is a very good quality of life change. There is not much point in having a souls mechanic if you respawn bang next to them.

This isn’t exactly a Souls-like. It’s got Souls influence/elements but it’s not a Souls game like Lies of P was. It’s somewhere in between a hack and slash with cool down abilities like FF7 Remake or God of War with some Souls influence like parry and timing. The Souls bonfire is there because you lose souls when you die and you have to fight your way back to get them before dying again. Stellar Blade doesn’t have “souls” that you lose when you die to a boss or enemy.. Bonfires are just save points here.

@@DFTNSHEXGRM Well Im not really into that whole argument because people seem to have different ideas about what a souls like is. But I wasnt talking about Stellar Blade, I was talking about Another Crabs Treasure, and I dont think the souls mechanic has much of a point if there is no run back.

I hate the character design of the Metaphor mc. Even in a fantasy world Atlus just has to have us play as a high school student. Nothing says badass like a twig boy in a white peacoat carrying a purse.

He does look a bit too much like P3's protagonist. He can look like a Persona protagonist for all I care, but I just wish he didn't look QUITE so similar.
