That looks GREAT!! What about going a step further and spraying a couple coats of clear so the paint isn't as likely to wear through, or at least not as quickly.
@bennettscustomsco
@bennettscustomsco Год назад
Yeah you definitely could do that forsure. It would take some miles to start taking paint off while driving but the clear would help

Nice job! I restored an F100 wheel with fairly large cracks, some were 1/8”. I cleaned up with a Dremel and files, then used PC70 epoxy paste for the first fill; after that was sanded, followed the same steps you did. it has survived the test of time.

Yeah I’ve used that before as well, it works great! Looking forward to steering the new project

Have you done the horn ring center piece yet with custom center? Since I have dad's coupe now I thought I'd see what you were going to do and maybe find a way to somehow make it a memory type thing. A picture, a tiny crescent wrench which he had tons of or something.

That’s a great idea! I want to create something for the centre forsure

Nice job. Maybe I should look for old steering wheels and restore them. Give me something to do being retired. Take care and be safe.

You should! It will keep you alive. Actually, though, I’m 58 and when I see people say they need something to do when they retire (or now that they’ve retired) it confuses me. I’ve been bored at jobs, but I’ve never lacked for things to do and never have needed to find something to do since I was 11 or 12 😆 I’m trying to reduce projects myself- I’m probably not going to live long enough to finish the projects I have on hand right now.

What are the details on the paint? what is the manufacturer and type of paint you're using and what would you suggest as any alternatives, as the Los Angeles area may not have yours? Thanks.

Did you add gloss after painting the steering wheel?

Curious if you ever restored a wheel that wasn’t originally painted? My Chevy had one that’s either plastic (or Bakelite?) from the 70’s. Wondering if an epoxy filler on the cracks and then a thinned epoxy recoating might work.

I did my 63 oldsmobile steering wheel a couple years ago using PC-7 epoxy. It seems like lots of people had good results but mine started to get some hairline cracks back after 3 years. Although its not nearly as bad as it was its still a bit disappointing. Im not sure if its just me or if it eventually happens to everyone.

how did you remove pitting and crazing through a buffing wheel ? finished product looks like a rechromed piece. Are you scamming the viewers?
