Scrap wood project for making a suet feeder. I didn’t have a scrap piece of 2x6 board so I glued together two scrap pieces of 1x6” cypress boards but any untreated boards would work. This project doesn’t require a lot of tools or woodworking experience. This is intended for entertainment. If you should happen to attempt to make this please be safe and use common sense.

Your hand strength, you claim, may be getting iffy but your heart, I declare, is entirely in the right place. I think I will make one exactly like yours. Thank You, Best Wishes for the New Year. Regards from Quebec.

I guess grip strength would be a better way to describe it. 😄😄. Good luck with the build, your birds are going to love it

You’re right, I had to go back a see what you were talking about. It reminds me of a football game we had when I was young. You placed your players where you wanted them then plugged it in and it vibrated just like that moving the players at random. Thanks for watching

So impressive! You're right, I'd rather watch you construct bird/ suet feeders than run out to a store to purchase one. 😉 I have had to modify my summer feeders using bungee cords so the bears don't take off with them in the bush.. this suet holder will be ideal for our Canadian winters! Great fall project 👌

I’m glad we don’t have a bear problem, the raccoons are bad enough. Thanks for watching, happy birding.

I miss woodworking so much! Unfortunately I am severely allergic to wood. Great job on the feeder!

@@billr4283 I haven’t seen them do it yet. They go for the easy stuff in the classic feeder. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-xyP1WqpRjR8.html

Larry where did you purchase that mesh wire?
@LSatch
@LSatch 6 месяцев назад
Our locale ACE hardware store sell this 1/2" hardware cloth by the foot so you don't have to buy an entire roll. Otherwise you have to buy a 10' roll or more at someplace like Lowes or Home Depot.

If you are determined to use wood use cedar. Better yet use the synthetic wood. The mesh you use absolutely should not be galvanized. It’s toxic.

Thank you for expressing your opinion. My go to outdoor wood is cypress. I made this video with the homeowner, DIY person in mind that may not have access to cedar or cypress. BTW, that feeder has been up for 2 years and is doing well. As for the galvanized wire, it’s not going to do any harm in this application. I recently did a follow up video addressing that very issue, ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-zhOlnLt4sJo.html If you read through the comments on that video, you will see why it’s not going to be a issue. While I do appreciate your feedback I don’t like the tone of your voice, I assumed that since I was wrong on so many levels I could go to your channel and see how I should be building things and taking care of the declining bird populations. Bur you have no content. You might like the feeder I published today better. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-sdj0uzgOwjE.html

Is zinc bad for birds? Galvanized metal which has been electroplated is safe, but galvanized wire (hot dipped) is not. According to "Avian Medicine: Principles and Application by Ritchie", Harrison and Harrison, birds can ingest zinc from cages and clips made of galvanized wire. Although a bird requires a certain amount of zinc to remain healthy, too much zinc is very dangerous and can cause degeneration in the liver, kidney, and pancreas and even death.

Great point. I’m going to take a really close look at the wire to see if it has deteriorated very much. Thanks for pointing this out
