In this video, I cover everything you need to know about teaching or running the 40 yard dash. I dive into the science behind your stance, projection, arm action, leg action, and more. Plus, I evaluate real examples from NFL & Olympic athletes.

Very informative video. Definitely will be using these tips with my athletes since they translate well across football and track athletes.

Excellent setups. I wonder if there is a step for the brain to get used to the hips behind the head and the feet behind the hips. Front foot braking is a form of trying to establish balance - the only other option is to power the legs. I've noticed that arms going forward a long way lead to a more upright stance (and braking front foot)- as if having the arms out in front is an alternative to the upper body out in front. I've been wondering how to train away from that and the tips to have the head lower than the hips and the hands below the shoulders should help. Takeaways: - front shin angle becomes the body angle of attack - head below hips - hands below or behind shoulders - switch at the hips like pistons (don't cycle feet) The first two steps being the critical ones to train.

I know what I want stance and start to look like but this give me better ways to cue athletes where they should be.

John Ross’s back is rounded in the 3 point stance I noticed.

What are some good ways to get athletes out of that rounded upper back position? I find that when I tell them I want them to stay low, they hunch more. I've tried "throw your shoulders forward" and had some success with that. Is it cueing or drills?

Don’t tell them stay low. tell them push the ground away

In the first 40 meters, how much distance would u have the athlete be in an acclerarative position( piston action, angled torso, head down) & accelerate in the following cases 1. Track sprinter 2. Football/ Rugby player 3. Basketball player

It would depend on the game situation but, what would u have them do in training? To ensure maximal transfer to on field performance ? Would love to know !
