Hi Everyone, welcome to the Ranger Shop!
I created this channel to focus on everything to do with Ford Rangers. I love these little trucks, they are cheap easy to modify and great off road.
Please follow along if you have a Ranger and want to learn about modifying and repairing it.
In this video I I Install a front lunch box locker, front drain for the diff and manual Hubs.

Bearings - NHUB-26 (motor raft)
CV Shafts - Cardone 66-2147 / 66-2148
Inner seal - National 710519
Outer seal - F87Z-3B457-AA
Manual Hubs - Mile Marker 426
Locker - PowerTrax 1830-LR

Awesome video! All your camera angles and explanations are crystal clear. Every time I watch one of your videos I feel like I get a much better understanding of the how, what, and why of the system you're working on. I see & heard you said you have a front skid plate. Is that a factory skid plate? The ranger system is basically the same as the explorer so I'm sure this set up should work on my 98 explorer as well

Yeah it’s a factory part on the fx4 rangers. I’d think it might work… might just need to install it with some self tapping screws.

Have you noticed any problems with the locker at all? I’m assuming you’ve had some time to have the opportunity to need it.

No problem at all. But remember I switched over to manual hubs so my locker is only spinning when I lock in my hubs. I absolutely love it… I can just crawl along no need to get speed up it just crawls over everything!

Right on! Sounds like a great truck! Yeah it’s really fun planning out and then doing the mods…. You’ll get to it… just maintain and look after your truck and when your ready to start the big mods you will have a great platform to build from 👍

Awesome job on the step by step instructions and the videography. Interesting choice that you went with a lunchbox locker in the front. The general consensus is the dana 35 axle in general is very weak. But especially on these trucks being ifs. Usually its better left open for hard wheeling or at most a torsen lsd installed( i run one in mine). Not trying to naysay or anything, but it will be interesting to see how yours holds up

Yeah you got it that’s all worries I had. I researched quite a bit. I don’t really hard wheel but I do pull a trailer off road so I think that’s super hard on it. I just got back from a week of camping climbed some crazy steep roads with rocks and tree roots. What a difference it was like night and day…. Before I’d have to take a run at it smashing the truck over the terrain now I just put it in 4low and crawl over it. So far best mod in making a capable off road. I had the torsion on order but then backed out and went with the lunchbox personally I don’t like the slipping before engaging even though it’s minor….. I wanted to put my tire on a slippery tree root and have it engaged 100% all the time. We will see how it lasts I’ll definitely keep you posted 👍

Good I was pulling a 3000lb trailer with a locker in the front as long as I took it easy I didn’t have any problems climbing rock or going through deep mud.

So if i wanted to just convert my hubs to manual and not do the lunchbox locker on my 02, would all these parts work?

I've messaged you before. On my 04 3 ltr. 2wd ranger I have no idea if transmission fluid was ever changed mileage is 158,000. Do you think it would be safe to change my tranny fluid and filters or leave it alone. I heard that changing fluid is dangerous and could cause slippage if it was a long time since this service was done if ever. I'm thinking I may have luck and no damage will occur. I want your opinion. I see how thoroughly you do things and I would appreciate your input. I wouldn't feel so scared if this were a standard transmission but it's an automatic.

I’d definitely change it! Always better safe then sorry. Use a good quality fluid and a decent filter. I’m sure there are some good RU-vid videos to follow. 👍👌

Do you think the locker hubs kit would work for a 2011 Ranger?

Don’t see why not. I believe the components stayed the same for all those years. The only thing I’m not sure of is if they changed the ABS plug to a different style?

Definitely thought of it but instead went with an aftermarket trac loc. I heard the lockers are killer to drive on a standard transmission…. Every time you shift it locks in. That would kill my tires a little too fast.

@@RangerShop1 No they aren't bad at all, I have had them in 2 trucks with standard transmissions.

Love all your videos! I am slowly working on my '98 Ranger, about to Raptor line it and trying to find E-locker for the front and back...Since I can't find a good fit for the front diff, I think I will copy your idea. I will probably try to E-lock the back and lunch box the front. Would love to hear your opinion. My Ranger was a 2 X Teenager Training vehicle/hunting truck... Now it will be full hunting, 2" Key and Rear bracket lift with 32" Perfect ground clearance for what I use it for. But the suspension is tighter than I like. Did you happen to record your driving test with the lunchbox?

Awesome love my raptor liner! 👍 I think the E-locker is a great way to go it would be nice to completely control engagement. I love the lunch box locker I can set one front wheel on a rock and it just crawls over no slipping no getting speed to go over. Such a huge difference off-road now!👌

To be honest not really, but it feels much smoother and I love towing the trailer in 2low. I think it would be a way to do the 5” RC lift and not need a front drive shaft. Because it’s only spinning when your in 4x4.
