I'm a lefty too so it doesn't bother me in the least that your hand is over the painting some. I get it. You move enough that it's not a problem. I love the overhead camera angle because it helps me be able to see better and also study the colors you are using at the same time. Love this one! Thank you!

I feel so loss. I’m exploring different mediums. I just get so sad. I wish I had never stopped painting. Thanks for listening.

Whether left handed or right right, when working the full surface of the painting there will be areas where the strokes are clear and others hidden by the hand in videos. Don't apologize for your left handedness causing an area to be hidden. You don't hear a right hander apologizing when that happens in their demos. I don't expect to see every stroke of application - I just need to see enough to understand how you're working. As to camera angle - I like both the overhead camera as you work on a flat surface as well as the videos you've done over the shoulder on easel work. Thank you. Your videos are packed with great information and demonstration.

I think in regards to the left handedness covering up your marks, that really only goes when you’re strictly working left to right (like writing). Otherwise you can see the marks the same, you’re just looking on the other side of the hand. Love the video!

I’m going to watch this video but it 11:30pm in Australia so I’ll watch tomorrow. Just wanted to let you know that the unison 120 set from Jackson’s which we can buy because they say they have an ‘Australian’ store costs $394.32 aud. It would then cost an additional $179.45 for FREIGHT! 😳 The sennilier 120 set through Jackson’s cost $197.99 Aud plus the freight costs makes it a $377 set. I can buy Sennilier 120 Paris collection for $299.95 from Soft Pastels Australia which I plan on doing. I would love it if you could do a video similar to this one on the Sennilier Paris Collection. Thank you so much for thinking about Australia! I’m at the beginning of my pastel journey and I appreciate your advice through your videos.. 😊

Thank you so much for your beautiful beginner series painting and I look forward to more. You are the person who got me started with soft pastels (which I have only been doing for maybe 2 months). I like the orientation of the paper flat on the board because it’s easier to see. One thing that I seem to have trouble with is, I think I’m filling up the tooth of the paper before I’m finished with my painting. I’m using pastel mat. Maybe I’m just using too many layers because I make so many mistakes or maybe I’m pressing too hard?
@monetcafe
@monetcafe 4 года назад
I love hearing that Paula! So happy to have ignited your passion for soft pastels!! You are right about filling up the tooth. Often when we are still in beginning stages (and even later), we over layer by corrected mistakes too often. Also, as you stated, a heavy touch can also be the problem. Keep in mind, a light touch is the right touch. Harder strokes should only come at the end of a painting. Also, Pastelmat is washable! You can use a stiff brush to brush off the main pastel (outside of course) and then you can put it in your sink and use a sponge to wipe off the rest. Then just let dry and start over. Usually there is only a slight ghost image of the previous painting. I've recorded two more beginner series videos and hope to get them uploaded soon. Keep having fun!

@@monetcafe Thank you, I appreciate the quick answer! I have been mainly a pouring artist on RU-vid, but have always loved the romance of pastels. Recently, Arteza was going to send me pouring paints but accidently sent me pastels instead! I have done a very few pastel paintings, very simple and small, and so will give their pastels a try and as honest a review as possible next week... I have been binge watching your videos as well as a few others and hope eventually to become better. Any specific RU-vid artists out there you might recommend me watching so that I can be better informed on my new skill? Thank you so much!

Really nice video! I like seeing the pastels as you work, I do not know how you deal with the dust!? Marla Baggetta has been doing a live stream, have you been able to catch one? she has added a palette view to her videos and it is pretty cool. I do not know how it is done, I know she has help! I really like the "homemade" paper or surface, Do you keep it small for time reasons? or? I have noticed most pastel painters use smaller sizes (well you tube pastellists) I know it is cheaper but is there another reason? Thank you for showing us your techniques and your joyful manner is so encouraging too. Please take care and be safe!
@monetcafe
@monetcafe 4 года назад
mjpete27 what a great comment. Thank you. Yes, Marla is one of my favorite pastel artist and I have watched many of her livestream videos. They are done so well and I think it’s her husband who helps her. I’ve actually thought about setting up another camera to film my palette while I stand at the easel but I haven’t gotten to that just yet. I never like to complain but it really is a lot of hard work to paint, film, edit, upload, and more. But it’s obvious that it is my passion and I do love to get better. Maybe one day I can talk my husband into helping me, LOL! Oh, and with regards to the smaller sizes… You are correct in the timeliness and it not taking quite as long, but also I find that storing them is more efficient and they can be priced better for selling as well. Hope that helps sweetheart
