There is also another way....: This is all very fine, but applies mainly to House, Trance, etc, which were produced with beatmatching in mind. I am mostly playing Classic and Northern Soul as well as vintage Boss Reggae, so no long instrumental intros or outros, nor extended breaks. So I beatmatch New York Style, like Cool Herc did in '73, fading over just the bass (i.e, kickdrum) from track B to track A, while fading out the bass of track A, so you've got the bass track of track B accompanying the mids and highs of track A. Let this run for a moment, and then fade out midst and highs from track A whilst fading in mids and highs from track B. This way you avoid clashing vocals, harmonies, melodies, keys, etc. Full kill on all 3 frequency ranges for both channels is a must for this, but if you can: try it. It's really something else, it's really fun and it really excites the punters!

DnB is harder than house, the beats differ from track to track and there isn't a set kick on every beat
@Crash-Rest-Yummy
@Crash-Rest-Yummy 3 года назад
@@theoracle7463 For me dnb is more easy to mix , faster tempo (so u get feedback faster if the pitch is too fast or too slow), a clear snare ( mostly) to focus on, i never focus on the bass or beat, that confuses me. Get snares , hihat's , claps in beat, the rest follows.

Honestly….. I taught my self to play vinyl over the past 2 years snd I feel I’m pretty good….. scratch that, I taught my self and saw some of your videos. You’re well versed and give good info in a short amount of time. We appreciate your info bruv. I wish I didn’t have to learn about spl the hard way. To those learning…. If appears from what Iv seen that some people have a natural musical mind. Beat matching vinyl is a little hard at first, making sure you’re in “season” with 8/16/32 counts is even harder. Those whose brain doesn’t subconsciously count beats/melody’s are at a disadvantage. To some people, the cyclic nature of music, the “law” that is that law for how ever long that track is, and the physical manipulation of media just does something to satisfy the neurons when that mix is just right.
@irinadumitru9088

Counting is essential in any type of mixing...on vinyls is crucial.

I started sodding about mixing music about 3 yrs ago and gone down the digital route, would of loved to have been a vinyl junkie but that's a bit hard to do if you haven't been collecting vinyl for years or your not lucky enough to find someone with a job lot to sell, I would of got bored very easily....I bought some controllers and a week later had over 9000 tunes to do some bad mixing with (and hand on heart, can honestly say that I've never used the sync button). So unless you all want to donate 10 bits of quality vinyl each and in return, i'll happily find space for some decks, please stop knocking us digital junkies just because we have newer stuff with more flashy light on 😉.....it should be about the music and atmosphere you provide. Peace 💛

I've tried to show folk how to mix in my time with turntables. The hardest part is trying to explain music timings. For the majority of dance music its 32 or 64 beats. Theres 2 really important parts to mixing. 1. Make sure you have the same genre of songs, you can drop the occasional "different" tune to give a lift or break up the monotony. However, constantly changing your song genre makes it messy and youll have confused people on your dance floor. 2. Probably following on from above, know your records, know what direction you want to take folk. If you're playing weddings, have a collection of songs for everyone there. If youre playing a house night, make sure its house records and not pan pipe records. There's an art to this, but also you can have shoddy mixing and great tunes.

I've always thought, how am I gonna hear my headphones over the two huge subs and speakers on a stick... or the club soundsystem? But it's never been a problem. Next month we are gonna set up a pretty big system on the beach. Not 50,000 watts but at least 8 huge speakers are gonna be set up and I believe we are gonna have a blast :^) A friend of mine did 14 years in federal prison but the last year he has been out, and he has been pulling money out his ass and buying lasers, speakers, amps, etc. We are trying to have a successful liftoff in a town that has never had a big scene.

awsome, nice tutorial. I might just add that for knowing the song frazes and beats, its really important that you are able to hear it and count it in your head, knowing when 16 beats passed, or 32 when it comes for drop in. Without this rhythm, its hard to be dj.

@GhettoWxzrd
@GhettoWxzrd 5 месяцев назад
Probably no one's showing you because, unpopular opinion, no one wants to hear spoken word in the middle of a techno set.. really its about reading people's energies, are people tired from dancing? Play something chill, people look bored or are losing interest in the set? Play something hype. And for genre mashing I know from mixing between trance, electro, from trap or dubstep, I know alot of the transition between genres is tempo switching (gradually) and mixing that with normal transitions like backspin echo, filtering and crossfading, etc. My favorite thing to do is find remixes of my favorite rap, punk or rock songs, and find remixes for them closest to the genre that I'm playing most my set in. That way you don't leave people confused or mad that you just went from exciting house music, to slow calm reggae 😂
@skawashers
@skawashers 5 месяцев назад
@@GhettoWxzrd You are describing a club audience who are there to dance. That is not who i generally play to. My events are mainly art spaces, Creative places. Art galleries. Hey there, I'm looking for some DJ advice. I have gemini Pt-2400's ..the mixer they came with, which I needs replacing and it all runs through an old JVC stereo stack system. I want to move from analog to digital and just don't know where to begin. I definitely need a new mixer. The set up I would like to have is one that enables me to record digitally, possibly stream and basically play my vinyl through a digital mixer and a laptop..with perhaps the addition of mp3, using DJ software. The JVC obviously needs to be replaced but I'm not sure what amp or monitors would be best. Wanting to make the transition gradually but just not sure how to even start. I'm guessing it would be with a new mixer. Any help or advice you can give would be really appreciated :) Thank you

I would imagine that you're only as good as the variety of your collection / selection of LP's. Hence where would one source all these no-name electronica records? Of course, today it's all online or digital. But for those who want to pay homage to the old school way, where would one source these type of vinyls? Berlin? London? - based record stores or collectors?

You can drop every song on a 1 but why not learn how to drop on any note?.......Not every song starts on a 1. Some start on a 4(I Wanna Be Your Lover, Prince). Some start on the half note &1&2&3&4(Sexy Back by Timberlake starts on a half note, the "&" between 4&1). If a song starts on a 4 and you drop it from the 1 onto the other 1 it won't sound as smooth as dropping it from the starting 4 onto the other 4

Few clangers going on there about what not to do. you get it a sec then lose it again. out of faze not fraze. No real beat mix in time for very long, no cutting just blending.I think you should focus on the beat, not the melody.

If I owned a club are had a nite going where I got djs in to play they would have to show me that they could mix on vinyl before I would let them play to show they are the real deal. Digital killed the real dj. Anyone can now jump on and play digital there is no art in playing anymore I'm not knocking digital but my belief is you should always learn to play vinyl before you call urself a real dj it's in the name disk jocky. There's nothing to set djs apart anymore vinyl took time to learn then to master takes 3 times as long and with vinyl u had tunes not many others had but digital you are able to get every tune everyone else has plus having it in your hand and the art work of the sleeve is just hard to beat. years ago there where alot less djs than there is now I think that why dance music isn't as big as it used to be
