I lived in Oberammergau for a year and took the tour twice. I just am in love with this relatively small castle.

You have no idea how helpful this video was in terms of research/reference. Even having been on this tour just a few years ago, I needed an accurate reference point for a screenplay I’m writing but none really exists-except for this! I’m not sure why Linderhof doesn’t upload their own official tour video if they won’t let anyone else do it, but I can’t thank you enough for this solid substitute.

Also, would you possibly be able to upload or just send me a version of the video with no music? Hear the tour guide’s audio would be super useful as well. If so I can give you my Gmail.

It’s opulent and the best of absolutely everything. I love Ludwig and think Linderhof is just perfection. Keeping the backpacks in. Front because bringing on the back you can’t see it and it can hit people and things. Makes total sense. Many tours all over the world would make you “check” them. It’s nice they let you bring them in. The Bavarian people are a kind and wonderful people. I loved my time there. I think often people sneak cameras in…I am glad you felt the need to do it because we have all benefitted from it. There is a shop that sells a lot of books and post cards but will never compare to seeing it in person.

This was one of my favorites because it’s so small it actually feels like something you could live in. Ludwig was a strange little king who had an eye for detail along with an obsession for spending taxpayers’ money. This palace, along with the grotto and grounds, are just stunning, and the Bavarian scenery that surrounds it feels other-worldly. This will always be one of my favorite places on earth.

This is wrong -he had no access to taxpayers money, he spent his annual allowances on the castles! All these made-up stories come from the family of his uncle Luitpold, who did his very best to get rid of Ludwig (who became king at 18!!) and his brother and instate himself and his children as kings. The good news is, the monarchy was abolished soon after this greedy man, so his bloodline couldn't continue the reign. And the bavarian people knew this - the mourning of Ludwig ii went on for a very long time, because he gave them employment and treated them well. Liopold needed also quite a long time to be believed, which practically never happened. So they made up the story of Ludwigs madness and that he overspent although he never had any access to taxpayers money. Another funny fact is that immediately afterwards they opened the castles to the public, which generated crazy loads of money! They also never let anyone external examine Ludwig's body after his death, but it became known that his lungs were not filled with water, so he never really drawned. There were stories about him being shot, but the snake Luitpold felt scared by this (at the end of the day he ordered it and could be prosecuted) and ordered full secrecy on the findings and started selling the story about suicide and drowning, which was ridiculous - Ludwig was an excellent swimmer. Since the body was never really confirmed / properly examined, it is no wonder that Ludwig actually played them all and got away alive. Some of his letters were released and prove that he was not only absolutely sane, but also knew he was in danger. So, why don't you get better informed before you talk?

I'm sure they have a lot of people on staff to maintain that place. The volume of tourists on a daily basis and the revenue per tourist; it's a well oiled machine.

thank you very much, when I was about six years old, me and my mother, grandmother and grand-grandmother were inside Linderhof, it made me speechless and the art is beyond words still today. I believe the reason that filming or taking pictures is not allowed, is because than everybody would have a device in front of his face and stumble along. You where there and you know that everything is very narrow, so it is to risky regarding all this wonderful and unique artworks. Happy that you managed it in this way, very good

It's a good point that if everyone was trying to take pictures and video, it could slow things down. And if they had said that was the reason, that would have made sense. It wouldn't have stopped me but it would have at least provided a plausible reason. Thanks for the comment. 👍

Awesome video! I was there in the ‘80’s among others. I thought he has a bathtub you actually had to walk down stairs to get bottom. Nearly a swimming pool. Then there was a hidden stairway from bath area to his room. I know it’s not at Nueswanstein. Is it here or a different castle? Thought it was same location as the Venus grotto which is so cool
@OaklandTravel

I'm not sure. The tour was pretty quick and I don't remember anything like a set of stairs to a bathtub. Thanks for the comment.

@@OaklandTravel maybe one of his other castles but I remember we couldn’t visit all of his castles. We came here and Neusxhwanstein. Maybe it’s no longer part of the tour? I’d imagine many people walking on top and in the bath had effect on the material?

Well done. I hate being told what I can and can't do too. We visited here in the 80s and there were no restrictions then. They are a strange set of people in that part of the world. All this was just meant for one persons eyes, well apart from Wagner who he is said to have had a crush on. He stayed there many times. The table that is about half way through the movie surrounded by glass was set on a trap door that went down to the kitchen where his meals would be placed on it and sent up so he could dine completely alone with nobody in the room. If you run it through you can see the trapdoor. Great video.
