Step inside The Tilted Barrel, Britain’s new ‘wonkiest pub’ following Crooked House fire

A Black Country pub called The Tilted Barrel - where pool balls are said to "roll uphill" - is now Britain's wonkiest boozer following the loss of the Crooked House.
The 200-year-old pub, in Tipton, West Midlands, is just five miles away from its demolished counterpart which was burnt down in a suspected arson attack.
The slanted building is also wonky due to mining subsidence but unlike the Crooked House, the site is Grade II-listed, which will help protect its future. Landlady Haych Mann, 38, who took over The Tilted Barrel in February, said it was "bittersweet" to possibly take the mantle of "Britain's wonkiest pub".
She says she had to move the pool table out of the lopsided room, where balls seemingly roll uphill, just like they did in the Crooked House.

Don't sell it to anyone with a change of use plan, land fill nearby or quarry with heavy machinery that could block a road with dirt.

I believe its a Grade II Listed building so they couldn't even if they wanted to. Crooked House wasn't Grade II listed despite them applying for it before ownership was transferred.

Here is a list of some of the pubs in the local area that have burnt down in recent history (earliest is 2006, I think, but most are much more recent). They are all within 20 miles radius of The Crooked House. Some may be genuine accidents and not all were missed by the locals, being derelict or eyesores. Others were much loved but inconveniently in the way. I'm not implying anything, other than this seems kind of a common occurrence. It isn't a comprehensive list - I'm sure there are many more examples... The Tayleur Arms in Longdon upon Tern, near Wellington Swan pub at Waters Upton (Now houses) The Vine, Lichfield Road, Aston (Arson) The Ravenscroft, Small Heath (Plans for care home) The Bagot Arms, Erdington (now a block of flats) Pudding and Pint, Oscott (now houses) The Farcroft, Handsworth (Fire damaged and derelict) The Kingstanding pub, Kingstanding. (Soon to be an ALDI) The Merrivale, Oldbury.(Badly fire damaged and now derelict) The Queens Head, Smethwick (Now Houses). Ring o' Bells, Yardley (Now houses) The Crown and Cushion, Yardley (Now 100 apartment development) The Harlscott, Shrewsbury (Arson) The Countess's Arms, Western Heath (Arson) The Bromford, Bromford Road (Now a care home) The Anchor Inn, Brownhills (Arson. To be replaced by care home) And of course - The Crooked House, Himley.

That crazy, would be interesting to see about the whole UK too, I know Derby Council are involved in illegal property development with 3 American business men and are being criminally investigated as of typing, but could take years before anything is done

Time someone looked at all this, knowing firemen. They all will say any building left empty won't just burn down. Electrical fault, but that should be off. Or human hands.

Crooked houses owner should never be allowed to build on it. A fire one day, demolished the next! How on earth did they arrange demolition equipment so quickly! I Ordered a skip and took longer than that to arrive

I just saw it burnt down! Oh, I'm so sad for the new owners - they only had it for one week. It's quite the story...It went up in flames but the fire department got stuck in some mud & they couldn't respond fast enough to save the building. So. The entire building went up in flames. The bones of the pub held true. There was a lot of talk about rebuilding because it's such an important part of the community. Even worse than the fire, a bulldozer came into the picture (allegedly) unauthorised. Sadly? The only thing left are the bricks in a pile of rubble.

imagine a plot twist where it turns out the landlord of this place was somehow involved in the fire at Crooked House.... new ITV Drama due to drop Autumn 2024.... Sheridan Smith as the detective inspector.... Sarah Lancashire pulling pints in some of the opening sequences, and somehow getting rescued from the fire.... this thing writes itself.

Lets hope it stays safe! I agree it’s a lovely pub lovely building. Will have to research and see how long that has been standing. Treasure the building protect it, we are so angry what happened to our Crooked house, we will not rest until it’s been rebuilt. Like you say “ It’s our heritage and the buildings have defied the time and still stand that has to say that They were built to last not even subsidence took it. Makes me mad when I think of our lovely Crooked House destroyed by GREED

I always wanted to go and visit the Crooked House. 😢 just never had the opportunity recently with health issues. Now well again I've lost the chance. Devastated. 😢
