My wife got ARDS from Pcp pneumonia following induction chemotherapy for acute lymphoblastic leukemia in Aug 2020. She was on ECMO for a month. Here at St Luke’s BGC in Manila Philippines. ECMO gave her lungs time to heal. She was decanulated in September 2020, got off the ventilator 2 weeks after ECMO. Went on to complete consolidation, reinduction, interim maintenance, reintensification, and maintenance phases of chemo. She has been in remission for the last 1050 days and tomorrow she rings the bell. Her treatment is finished. She’s transitioning from active cancer patient to survivor. Without ECMO she wouldn’t have made it another 24 hours now she’s 3 years cancer free. Thank you ECMO team!

Thanks to those nurses. Thanks to all nurses male and female who care for their patients more than we will ever really care about much! I was also on ECMO after my heart stopped for an hour and my family were told that there was little hope that I'd be much more than a vegetable. When and IF I woke up. That's not how they said it; they simply said they had no idea how or when I would wake up and that there was a strong chance that I would be in a wheel chair ... I will never forget waking up and being ex-tubated and then someone asking me if I wanted some tea. These people are fabulous. I actually met the surgeon who put me on ECMO 3 years later and simply broke down into tears it was so much to deal with emotionally. I held the hand of the cardiologist who has held my heart in HIS hands !!! to graft a miniature pump to it while waiting for a transplant. Learning to walk, to talk and to write was most difficult. Simply frustrating to know that you COULD but that you can't anymore and have to teach yourself again. I'm sure Stephanie is doing well again if how I've recovered is anything to go by. Cheers and enjoy life while you have it.

Thank you for sharing your story. Five years ago, my son was born and had to receive ECMO as well. He was on the machine for just shy of a month at Dupont Hospital for Children located in Delaware Pa. He is now 5 years old and healthy and strong as ever. I would like to thank all the nurses who kept my baby alive and everyone else who has to go through this struggle. You appreciate it in more ways than I can express ! With prayer , anything is possible.

My lovely awesome friend was saved by this machine. He's not the same but he is too! I love him I'm so lucky he lived so we can be together. It's been 22 years & I can't wait to meet up. I don't care about scars etc. He's great! Thank The Lord God for this! Prayers for everyone who is sick! ♡♡♡♡♡♡♡

Thank you so much for sharing your story. And thank you to the folks who dreamed the ECMO machine up, used first in infants then later in adults. My husband was also saved by the use of ECMO at St. Joseph Medical Centre in Bellingham Washington and we are indebted for ever. Miracles happen when you least expect them and I hope your miracle is continuing, as ours is.

My brother in law has been on ecmo for 21 days with minimal improvement. The Dr just took him off the sedation and we're waiting to see if we will get some sort of sign of life from him. Thank you for sharing your story

Thanks for this video. I'm British so don't have much information regarding the US system, but do you primarily only prescribe VV ECMO or do you also do VA?
@uihealthcare
@uihealthcare 8 лет назад
+Josh Robertson Yes, we provide both venovenous (VV) and venoarterial (VA) ECMO based on the patient's needs. For more information about our ECMO program visit www.uihealthcare.org/ecmo/ or ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-MZGgJohtI2g.html

Does anyone know what her initial symptoms were post-taking sulfamethoxazole trimethoprim? I recently took Bactrim for a UTI and I believe I had an allergic reaction on the 4th day of taking it. My lips swelled up and my heart raced. I just want to know what the early symptoms are of something like what happened to her to know if I need to seek medical help.
