"Home" is the classic song by Stephanie Mills that put her on the road to stardom. She was the original Dorothy in the seven-time Tony Award winning Broadway musical, "The Wiz" and was nominated for the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Actress in a Musical. Her version of "Home" topped the US R&B charts in 1975 and again, in 1989 on the US Hot Black singles chart when she re-recorded it for her album of the same name with background vocals by Take 6. The single was the last of five number ones for Mills on the R&B Singles chart.
In this live performance, she closes her concert with her signature song while performing with a sprained ankle. Regardless, she gave a powerful rendition and even managed to walk across the stage to toss flowers into the audience. From my vantage point, people were getting up to leave during the song so there are instances where I "mask" the walking fans in front of my camera with footage of Stephanie Mill's original performance in "The Wiz." I hope it's not too distracting.
